Chapter 35 He might kill me

Chapter 35 He might kill me
Chapter 35

Elena pov

Kai sauntered in with a cold aura, and hands stuck into his pockets.

He has this cold look settling over his face, like he was sober and going through something.

“Hi Kai,” I called out in a soft tone, smiling at him.

Kai stared at me for a while then the cold look on his face disappeared and was replaced with a warm expression.

“Elena, how are you doing?” he asked as he approached me.

My core got creamy at the sounds of his voice, and I felt my body already yearning for his touch.

I pouted. “Sick without work and a telephone,” I mumbled.

Kai walked over and collapsed on one of the couches, his head resting on it.

I cleared my throat. “Kai is anything wrong with you?” I asked with curiosity lacing my voice.

He lifted his head and his eyes met mine. He stared for a while before his hands moved over his face and then a pathetic sigh.

“I’m fine.” he rose to his feet.
“I know you're fine but if there's anything wrong you could share with me. You know?” I paused to catch my breath.

“I don't know if you understand what I'm talking_”

His voice suddenly interrupts me. “Fine.” he breathed out. “I don't know if you could follow me somewhere.”

He said and my heart thrummed under my chest.

Follow him somewhere? But, why?

What if he's going to sell me to anyone or…

“If you don't want to, no problem.” his sharp voice cut through my thoughts and my attention snapped to him.

I lifted my shoulders. “Of course I will.” The words flew out of my mouth even when I was damn scared. “But, when?” My eyes rolled at him.

“Now?” his brows lifted as he sized me up.

I licked my lips and rose to my feet. “Of course.”

“Then let's go.” he motioned with his hands already walking for the door.

I hailed after and slid into the driver’s seat, fastening the seatbelt.

I checked him out from the corner of my eyes and saw those raw hurts in his eyes.

Was he drunk? I could see the way his hands trembled on the steering wheel.

“If you're drunk I could drive for the night.” I offered but my words only earned a chuckle from him.

“Even if I consumed a hundred percent alcohol be assured that I can still find a way home.” his words hurt tho. They were cold.

“I was only trying to help,” I muttered in a low voice.

“I know,” he answered swiftly, focusing his attention on the road.

The rest of the drive was quiet. My clammy hands intertwine on my thighs, and I let out a sharp quick gasp.

Soon the car veered off the busy road into a desolate area. A lonely path around a mountain area.

He wound the car window and cold air surged in sending chills down my spine.

Though it was dark, there was still a little light from the moon that radiated over the surroundings.

I’m tempted to ask him what we are doing in a mountain area, but the words kept dying on my lips.

“Are you scared?” his voice broke through my concentration.

My gaze darted to him and my cheeks flushed red from embarrassment.

My lips parted to tell him ‘yes’ but the words died on my tongue so I just rolled my gaze away.

“I’m not going to hurt you, Elena.” his voice caused a sense of relief to wash over me.

I swallowed. “I've never been to this vicinity.” I finally found my voice.

“I’m sorry I dragged you out into this cold I just needed someone to understand me before I lose my mind.” He stepped on the throttle and the car's speed increased to 150 mph per minute.

Damn, my heart skipped.

“You’re not trying to get us killed through a car crash, right?” I yelled at the top of my voice.

He slowed down and said in a thick voice. “I’m losing my mind and I’m afraid I might turn into a monster soon.”

He cursed and banged his hands on the steering wheel, “Why am I even telling you this?”

He said almost to himself and didn't utter more words until he turned to the left intersection and the tyre squealed.

We were on a smaller street with old homes and large oaks.

“Welcome to Neyvile city.” He let out a sharp breath.

“I’ve never heard of this city,” I mumbled under my breath.

“A cool area for the bad men to hide after committing some crimes.” He winked at me, at the same time killing the car engine.

He unfastened his seatbelt and stared at me. I did the same thing and got out of the car while he did the same thing.

We stood in front of a thick bush which got me shackled in fear.

“Where exactly are we going, Kai?” I couldn’t hold the curiosity that was eating through me.

He grabbed my hands. “We just have to trek some distance and we will get there.”

My body stilled, and my hair stood at the back of my neck the moment my eyes trailed his pointed fingers.

I swallowed and walked abreast with him as we charged forth into the lonely path between the bushes.

From afar and what seems like a mountain house, a faint light was showing.

I tilted my head in that direction. “Is that where we are going?”

Kai spared me a glance before trailing my gaze. “Yes, it is.”

I swallowed, mustering courage and fighting back the tears that threatened to fall.

“I know you’re not trying to sell me right or use me to gamble for the night?” I lowered my gaze, biting on my lips, cursing inwardly.

“I may be a monster but not to the extent of playing games with people’s lives.” He cooed. His hands were rubbing inside my palm in a bid to calm me.

Whatever but his sudden touch in my palms seems to have an effect on me as the fear that gnawed on my nerves dissipated.

I scoffed. “Not playing games with people’s lives?” My eyes rolled awkwardly. “Isn't that you’re a saint and you haven’t killed people before, Kai. You killed a child and…” The words got stuck in my throat and my eyes widened the moment I realized what I had just said.

These words were never meant to come out of my mouth. I was only thinking inwardly.

I wanted to look him in the eye but shame and guilt won’t ever let me.

Oh no, please. He shouldn’t get angry over my words.

Thick silence dragged on between us as we walked. His hands were still gripping mine.

“Now that you know I’m a killer and not a saint maybe it’s better to inform you of the fantasy that will happen tonight, and no I’m not going to explain myself to you to vindicate myself. Feel free to believe anything. I appreciate your honest thoughts about me.” The emotions in his voice were unreadable.

‘Apologize to him!’ A small voice whispered in the back of my mind.

But was he going to accept my apology?

The closer we got to the house, the more the air became creepy and goosebumps broke out on my skin.

The writings in the air felt like I was gladly walking to my graveyard.
