Chapter 61 Estefan
Chapter 61 Estefan
ESTEFAN'S POV
I went into my study after I helped Rhea move her stuff back to our room. My mind drifted back to the interview and I couldn't stop wondering why I said all those things about Rhea. I admitted they were all true but I wasn't ready to express that to her.
After the interview, Esteban wouldn't stop teasing me that I had fallen in love with her. I was starting to like her, which I was sure of. But love, no way. There was no way I would fall in love with another Knight sister after the terrible ordeal I went through seven years ago.
The sound of my phone ringing pulled me out of my sea of thought. Checking its screen, I sighed when I saw that it was Mr Darlington from Empire Fashion House calling.
"Hello," I answered with a cold voice.
"Your Highness, it's been a while." He laughed but I could tell that he was nervous.
"Yeah. Is there something I can help you with?"
"It's about the contract you agree to sign with us. I..." He started but I cut him off.
"I assumed that deal was over when you refused to abide by my conditions. I told you I wanted Mackenzie Chesterfield as the company's model but you went ahead and signed Leah Knight," I said with annoyance. "I'm not willing to work with anyone that is in business with Leah Knight."
"I know, Your highness. I had signed in Mackenzie but due to the incident that happened with Leah a few days ago, that was why I changed my mind. After watching your interview, I realized that Leah had fooled everyone that's why I will be terminating her contract today itself," he explained. "Does that guarantee that our agreement still stands?"
"Sure." I relaxed into my chair with a smirk on my lips.
"Do you want me to bring the contract over to you in Spain?" He asked.
Talk about desperation.
"Don't bother. I will be coming to London myself tomorrow." I hung up before he could reply.
It would have saved me a lot of energy and stress if I had let him bring the contract to Spain, but I needed to go to London so I could bring Rhea along with me. Her father had always been calling me to ask how she was doing because she decided to cut all communications with her family.
Judging by the emotional moment they had when they were parting, I expect her to let go of her grudge toward her parents but instead she distanced herself from them more. Since her relationship with her parent turned sour because of me, I planned to find a way to fix it.
Rhea believed that our marriage took everything away from her; her family, her happiness and her freedom but I wanted to restore every single one of them before we get divorced and go our separate ways.
A knock sounded on the door and it was slightly used opened before Rhea peeped her head in. "Can I come in?"
"Sure." My lips stretched in a smile at the sight of her.
She stepped in, closing the door behind her as she looked around the room in awe. "I heard you have a lot of books in your study so I decided to check it out since I was bored on my own."
Standing up from my chair, I perched at the edge of my desk with my hands folded. "I'm a wide reader, so it's only normal that I have lots of books."
"That's nice," she said, tracing her fingers on the margins of the books as she walked past them.
"You must have read a lot of books too, seeing that you are a very good writer."
She chuckled and turned to me. "What makes you think I'm a good writer?"
"Esmeralda said so after she read a book you were working on." I shrugged.
Back when we were in London, Esmeralda would talk my ears off about Rhea. It got to a point where I thought I knew more about Rhea than she did about herself.
"I remember that." She smiled. "I just hope the judges think so."
"What judges?" I raised my eyebrows at her.
"I'm writing the book for a contest and if I manage to get first place, I would get the book published."
"That's a good opportunity." I nodded. "I have confidence in your writing skills that you will win."
"That's a great boost of morale." She laughed wandering around the study.
I followed behind her in the distance as she checked out the books from shelf to shelf. She stopped at the third shelf and reached for a book on the second column. She struggled to take the book because of her height and I went toward her to offer some assistance.
Standing behind her, I reached for the book and placed it in her outstretched arm. She turned to face me, sending me a small smile as I remained in my spot.
"I have never read this book before." She flipped the pages of the book.
"You should," I urged. "You will like it since the female lead character is a firecracker like you."
"You think I'm a firecracker?" She raised an eyebrow at me.
"Yes," I replied, resulting in a smirk from her. "If I'm to remember the author's description of the female lead clearly, she also looked like you."
"Really?"
"Yes." Stepping closer to her, I caressed her hair. "She had copper blond hair, a smooth pale skin that glows." My fingers left her hair and traced the side of her face. "And natural pink lips that were so inviting." My thumb traced her bottom lip as I leaned my face closer to hers.
"What are you doing?" She asked in a ragged breath as her chest rose and fell.
"We agreed to act as normal couples, so I'm doing what normal couples do," was the reply I gave her before I captured her lips in mine.
A bolt of electricity shot through my system at the contact which made me hunger for more. I snaked my hand around her waist to pull her closer and she placed her hands on my chest, holding my shirt tightly as she responded to my kiss.
I turned my head to the side to deepen the kiss as I pushed her gently to rest on the bookshelf. She wrapped her hands around my neck and she kissed me with the same passion.
We eventually pulled away to catch our breath and I noticed the blush that crept on her cheeks as she refused to meet my eyes.
"I think I should leave now." She stepped out of my hold and scurried out of the room.
I chuckled at her shyness and at that moment, I realized there was something about her that made me want to drop the cold facade I was putting on and return to my old self.
