Chapter 36 You Dare Touch Her?
Chapter 36 You Dare Touch Her?
Victoria hesitated, then lifted her delicate face to look at William.
"Is this really appropriate?" William didn't respond. He simply put his arm around her shoulders and led her straight into the private room.
Once inside, Victoria looked up and saw Billy, the general manager of Maplewood Hotel, nodding and bowing as he fawned over Kyle, who sat beside him.
Although she didn't know what relationship Kyle had with William, he had once saved her, so Victoria thought he was a good person.
Seeing Victoria and William walk in together, Kyle was about to stand up and speak to her.
But when Billy saw Victoria, his expression darkened instantly.
After all, earlier that day in his office, Victoria had been quite disrespectful to him.
He had only let it go because she was Charles's daughter. Now, when he came to meet Kyle to sign a contract, she had actually followed him here.
What did this mean?
Was she here to monitor him as general manager?
William had just returned from abroad and rarely appeared in business circles, so Billy wasn't familiar with him.
He only felt that William carried a faintly dangerous aura.
Of course, he wasn't intimidated, as his goal today was to connect with Kyle.
As long as he could get Kyle to sign this contract, he could take it to Charles and claim the credit.
Even if Victoria was unhappy, the position of Maplewood Hotel's general manager would still remain his.
"Victoria, what are you doing here?" Billy asked with an unfriendly tone.
Being addressed so casually by her first name made William unhappy. He glanced at Kyle, who also looked confused.
"Mr. Brooks? Why are you here too?"
Victoria was equally curious.
Billy pointed at Kyle beside him and said, "I'm here to sign a contract with Mr. Patterson. For the future of Maplewood Hotel, I've been working tirelessly. Do you think I'm just a general manager who takes a high salary without doing any work? Unlike you—a rich young lady who doesn't know how harsh the world is. By the way, what are you here for? Leave now. Mr. Patterson and I are about to sign the contract, and if you delay things, you'll be responsible."
Billy was eager to drive Victoria away.
After all, if Victoria was present when the contract was signed, she would take some of the credit.
If he were here alone, it would be entirely his achievement.
Faced with Billy's rude demand, William's expression darkened.
Seeing his expression, Kyle knew Billy was likely in trouble.
The only reason he was signing a cooperation contract with Maplewood Hotel was because of William. After all, Victoria, standing by William's side, would take over Maplewood Hotel in the future.
Now, with Billy being so arrogant without reading the situation, Kyle was eager to see how William would deal with him.
Victoria hadn’t expected Billy to be so petty.
Faced with his dismissal, Victoria gave an indifferent shrug.
"Mr. Brooks, I just walked in, and you already want to kick me out. Isn't that a bit inappropriate?"
Victoria looked at Billy with a faint, helpless smile.
Billy's face darkened as he said, "What's inappropriate about it? You're just a department manager at Maplewood Hotel. When it comes to signing contracts with someone of Mr. Patterson's status, you're not qualified to be here. Leave now, or don’t make me remove you myself."
Seeing Billy like this, Victoria felt the urge to turn around and leave.
But William's hand tightly gripped Victoria's arm, not allowing her to move at all.
Billy, however, mistakenly assumed Victoria was unwilling to leave on her own.
Anger rising, he stepped up to Victoria and reached out to push her.
Just as his hand brushed the corner of Victoria's clothing, William's eyes turned icy. His hand clamped down on Billy's arm like a vice.
Then, with a sharp shove, he pushed Billy away. Billy staggered and nearly fell.
"What kind of trash are you? How dare you touch her?" William's thin lips moved slightly as he spat the words at Billy.
Billy clutched his aching arm and looked at William standing before him with a sense of awe.
William was young yet carried an imposing presence. His whole being radiated a natural, kingly authority.
He must be someone of considerable status.
Victoria stood by his side, and the two of them looked strikingly well-matched.
Billy had heard Charles mention a few times that Victoria was going to marry into the Nelson family. Could the man standing up for her now be Jerry?
But wasn't Jerry supposed to be just a playboy? How could he stand up for Victoria?
"Are you Mr. Nelson?" Billy ventured a guess.
William snorted coldly, his brow furrowing again. He had lost count of how many people had mistaken his identity.
Of course, he didn't mind people mistaking his identity. What he minded was them mistaking Victoria's husband.
It seemed necessary to leave Billy with a deeper impression.
However, William never liked to handle such matters personally.
He gave Kyle a look, and Kyle stepped over on his own initiative.
"William..."
Billy was stunned for a moment when he saw Kyle's respectful attitude toward William.
"This man has some issues with his judgment. I don't want to see you cooperate with someone like him," William said, his expression icy.
"Let’s call off today's contract."
After speaking, William didn’t wait for Kyle's response. He put his arm around Victoria's shoulders and turned to leave.
He was confident that Kyle wouldn't dare disobey his orders.
When he reached the door, he tossed another remark over his shoulder at Kyle.
"Handle it quickly. We'll wait for you in the next private room. You have five minutes," William said casually, but Victoria felt deeply disappointed.
With a single sentence, he had canceled Kyle's cooperation with Maplewood Hotel. William had completely cut off her interests.
But it was also Billy's fault—his eagerness to claim credit had offended William.
No—for the future development of Maplewood Hotel, she had to persuade William. This deal still needed to go to Maplewood Hotel.
After William left, Billy stood there dumbfounded.
He had clearly heard Kyle's words.
Kyle said, "Mr. Brooks, you’ve been incredibly foolish. Of all the people you could offend, he’s the last one you should have crossed. He’s asked me to cancel the contract we were about to sign, so this matter ends here."
After Kyle finished speaking, he nodded to his assistant. Without a word, the assistant picked up the prepared contract.
Billy’s expression shifted to panic.
