Chapter 44

I paced back and forth as Doctor checks September. She had fainted and honestly it feels like something is not right.

Please. Let her be okay.

I don't know what happened to her. She was all good few moments before she grabbed her head and next I know she fainted.

"She's fine. She just needs some rest. And do bring her to clinic after she wakes up, I need to get some tests done." Doctor said.

I nodded.

A breath of relief came to me and I gestured Riley to drop him outside.

Everyone left the room and I quickly placed a soft kiss on her forehead.

She tried cooking for me. I don't know how to thank her for everything. In past few months, she became my reason to smile.

I adjusted the quilt and went to look for Claire. These days I am so busy with restaurant that I am not giving proper time to her.

I opened her door and found her playing with her dolls. September never fails to dress her up in cute clothes.

She wore red frock and her hair were tied in two ponytails.

I sat beside her and in seconds, a bright smile appeared on her face. She quickly jumped on me to hug me.

"Zachie." She kissed my cheeks.

"Yes, princess."

"I missed you." She frowned.

"I missed you too."

She clapped her tiny hands and smiled from ear to ear.

"Will you play with my dolls?"

Seriously?

I mentally facepalm myself.

"Sure." I faked enthusiasm.

She introduced me to her dolls asked me to say hii to them and that's when Riley and Blake entered into the room.

F*ck!

"Yes, Zach. Say hii to the dolls."

I rolled my eyes. Great. F*cking great!

I said in embarrassment but the second a sparkling smile came back to Claire's face, I cared less.

Both Riley and Blake burst out laughing like there's no tomorrow.

"Claire ask him to play with them."

"Yes, Zacie."

I laughed looking at her cute face.

"Anything for you, Princess." I whispered.

And after that, it all went on for an hour. Blake and Riley laughing their ass off while giving all the ideas to Claire about me playing with her dolls.

Honestly, I enjoyed. Not playing and all the shit but spending time with my little Claire, my angel.

Sometimes I wonder if I were never a criminal and went to decent college where I met September. I would've fell in love and when we both have a satisfying career, we would've married and have a child- Claire. I would've built a beautiful home for both of them and then I would be having my happy ever after.

But I messed up everything. I did something to September for which I'll never be able to forgive myself.

Next, I served dinner to Claire and asked her to sleep. After kissing her temple and switching off the light, we went out of the room.

"So? Did September told you something?" Riley asked, grinning widely.

I raised my eyebrows. "No? Why?"

He stopped smiling and exchanges a look with Blake.

"You sure? Or you are messing with us?" Blake asked.

I said nothing.

And that's when I realized that she had decorated the room. Today might be something special.

"I guess she was about to say something but soon fainted." I answered.

"Well there's a surprise for you. Just wait for her to wake up." Riley winked.

My curiousity was at the peak but I know that there wasn't any benefit of asking them about the same. They'll never tell me.

"Zach, I wanted to ask you something." Blake pressed his lips into a thin line.

"Sure."

"What if someday September will fall for you?"

I stilled at his question. My stomach started forming strange knots and some sort of warmth rose in my chest.

Although the idea of September loving me feels no less than miracle but I know very well that she'll never love me.

She may not remember her memories but her heart knows it all. It's just a game of time when she'll remember everything.

"She'll never."

"How could you be so sure?" Riley countered.

"Once again remember about my sins, you'll know the answer." I replied.

They both said nothing just looked at my face. Although their wasn't any smile but they were happy.

I don't know what the f*ck goes into their mind?

"I was wondering about something...." Before I could complete my sentence, Riley shows me middle finger.

I ignored him.

"I should gift a new house to September. We call could shift there. This place has so many dark memories."

"That's a great idea. September will love it." Blake smiled.

"I don't know man, first find me a girl to marry. I also want to happy like every f*cking other person in this house." Riley said.

Okay. Here we go again. He's back with his nonsense.

"What do you mean?" Blake asked.

"That Chris and our Grace are dating for f*ck's sake! That bitch was too fast to settle down and here look at me." He added.

I rolled my eyes. This is too much to handle.

I never realized that their lives are also connected with mine. Change in me means change in them.

They became criminals because I decided and when I changed, they also did.

I always say that I've got no one but the truth is they're not just my friends. They are much more than family.

Running fingers through my hair, I sighed. Even though they mean heart to me, they know perfectly how to get on my nerves.

"Zach, I think you did the best thing to move on from that shitty life. You deserve better. We all deserve better." Blake smiled, wholeheartedly.

I gave him a curt node but before I could smile, Riley showed me his middle finger, once again.

Son of a bitch!

I am happy for Grace. She deserves all the love and I would've never been able to find a perfect man like Chris for her.

"I'll go and check September." I said and left them both fighting over something.

As I entered our room, I found September still laying unconscious. I sat next to her and creased the corner of her face.

She was now healing. Her body was healing wounds and she was no longer pale.

I smiled.

She's beautiful no matter what.

I stayed in the same position for an hour till I felt that she's getting back to her consciousness.

Her lips quivered a little and softly she parted her eyelids.

She blinked twice before staring straight into my eyes. But this time in despise.

I raised my eyebrows and was about to ask that what happened before she decided to say something which took me off guard.

"F*ck you Zachary Wilson."
