Chapter 71 Looks Like I Came Just in time
Tobias stood frozen, his eyes burning a fierce shade of red. The weight of Alicia's rejection pressed upon him, making him feel weaker. It felt like someone had gradually drained all of his strength.
Alicia, who was no more than five feet away from him, was already on her knees, her hands over her heart, her lips trembling, raging down her pale cheeks.
Tobias understood that Alicia was suffering from pain several times worse than his, and since she was the one who initiated the rejection, he was worried that every pore in her body was now suffering from excruciating pain.
But he could do nothing for her now because he was losing his strength and was about to lose the power to even stand up, no better than she was.
He had planned to save his brother Ellis after getting the moonstone ring. However, his mate rejected him, which left him powerless for at least 12 hours.
Tobias took several steps back, each step echoing the crushing realization that his carefully constructed plan seemed to be crumbling. The woman he loved had severed the bond that once tied them together, and Tobias felt the impact in every fiber of his being. He leaned against the kitchen table in the RV and watched Mae rummage through his medical kit to find painkiller for Alicia.
"She's pregnant, half the painkillers." Tobias reminded Mae, though he now wanted to kill the mate who had rejected him at a critical time and the culprit who had leaked his secrets to his mate.
"Looks like I came just in time."
At this point, an unexpected figure stepped into the scene. His grandfather Martin, an imposing presence with an air of authority, entered the RV.
His arrival was unexpected, Tobias widened his eyes and watched as Martin, seemingly oblivious to him, approached Alicia.
"Grandpa!" When Alicia saw Martin appear, it was as if she saw a god who could take her away. With reddened eyes she pushed away Mae, who was sitting beside her, and stood up with the only strength she had left.
"No, Alicia, don’t go to him!" Tobias warned.
But before he could finish his sentence, Martin had stepped in front of Alicia.
"There, there, my dear. Everything will be alright." With a feigned warmth, Martin embraced Alicia, saying empty words of sympathy. Unbeknownst to her, within that seemingly tender hug, Martin enacted a sinister plan.
A small bottle of pink potion suddenly materialised in his hand. As Martin embraced Alicia, he discreetly administered the potion to her, and soon Alicia slipped into unconsciousness.
"What the fuck did you inject her with, you asshole?" Tobias shouted.
Martin shrugged and said, "Nothing, just a nice new thing developed by Edward."
"You old bastard!" Mae got up from the floor to grab Alicia, who's passed out in Martin's arms, from Martin's hands.
But Martin calmly pulled out a gold ring and with what he thought was a kind smile, said, "You must recognize this ring, right?"
Mae recognized it as her brother Alpha Asher's ring. It was the symbol of Alpha of the Greenfield Pack. She glared angrily at Martin and asked him, "Where's Asher? What have you done with my brother?"
Martin laughed and said, "Alpha Asher is a guest in my pack house. And Ellis is hosting him. Don't worry. I'm going to throw the biggest party in North America. You are all my guests."
"Martin, don't hurt Allie," an old man with only one arm in black boots entered the RV.
Tobias identified the old man as Lee.
In whispered tones, Martin instructed Lee, "Take Alicia to my place. She must be invited to my party."
"Martin!" Tobias roared as he attempted to muster the strength to shape-shift, a desperate attempt to regain control. Yet, the rejection had sapped his strength, leaving him powerless.
Lee easily carried the unconscious Alicia over his shoulder and glanced at Tobias, who was on one knee, without a word as he left the RV.
"What do you want, Martin? That stupid woman knew nothing about me. Let her go!" Tobias asked. His eyes were red and he looked like a wounded beast that still refused to give in.
Martin ignored his question and roar. Instead, he turned his gaze to Mae. He asked, "Ms. Greenfield, I wonder if you'd mind giving me and my grandson, whom I haven't seen in probably ten years, a moment of privacy?"
Mae regained her composure as she realized that Martin didn’t seem to have any intention of catching her. She gave a cold look at the useless Tobias and told Martin, "Since you're planning on hosting the party at your pack house, I would love to attend your party with my brother, mate and my bestie."
"Feel free, Ms. Greenfield," Martin said as he held out his hand, signaling that Mae could leave now.
Mae patted the dust from her leather jacket and boots and walked towards the door of the RV, deliberately kicking Tobias, who was leaning against a cabinet, with disgust on her face, and she cursed him, " Loser! You can't even protect your brother or your mate."
Tobias braced his knees and locked eyes with Mae with a mocking smile, "If I were you, I'd shift and bite that old bastard right now. Instead of being threatened by him."
Mae said nothing and jumped out of the RV.
Martin surveyed the car's furnishings, then chose a leather seat and sat down. He leaned on his cane and looked at his eldest grandson, who was sitting on the floor, with a loving smile, "I thought you'd become stronger and more witty over the years, but I didn't realize that you were always a disappointment, my dear Toby."
