Chapter 70 Officially Reject You
"How dare you?!" Damian gritted his teeth, lifting his arm and grabbing Mae's neck, hoisting her into the air. His secrets concealed from Alicia were now exposed by Mae. He was determined to kill this infuriating she-wolf, regardless of whether she was his brother's mate or something else.
Mae hadn't anticipated Damian could still muster the strength to choke her after taking a forceful punch. This Alpha was nothing short of a monster! Even in her pack, her brother, Alpha Asher, needed a moment to recover after receiving a punch from her.
For the first time, Mae realized the extent of the power of the Rogue King. She felt fear for the first time in her life. Yet, she wouldn't beg this detestable Alpha, as her mate, the kind and gentle Ellis, was now imprisoned in the Golden Moon Pack's pack house, awaiting the help of his damn brother.
Mae attempted to kick Damian, but his large hand was like an iron chain around her neck. The choking sensation made it impossible for her to exert any force.
Suddenly, Tobias caught a nauseating scent he had never encountered before, a foul odor of cheap red wine mixed with rotting leaves and the sourness of spoiled grapes. It was the most repulsive and disgusting smell he had ever experienced.
He turned to the source of this repulsive odor—his mate.
"Let her go!" Alicia clenched her fists, her eyes crimson with anger as she glared at Damian—no, Tobias.
In that moment, Alicia understood some of the questions that had been bothering her. Why had her husband Tobias strangely forgiven her cheating? Why had Tobias been so generous in suggesting that she be with Damian, even inviting Damian to impersonate him to attend her father's birthday party? It was because Damian was Tobias.
Even more absurdly, her best friend Mae also knew about this. It seemed she was the only one being played for a fool, deceived by her husband's dual identity.
As Alicia squeezed the words from between her teeth, it was as if Tobias caught a whiff of blood from the smell of the putrid red wine. He frowned and released the petite black leather-clad girl from his grasp.
It was probably only as short as a breath before Tobias realized that Alicia's olive-green eyes had turned into golden wolf pupils, but her slim, white wrists were still smooth and showed no signs of shifting.
In order to avenge his parents, Tobias believed he had forged a heart of strength and courage, unafraid of anything. But strangely, looking at those golden eyes, he felt a sense of fear, unable to meet her gaze directly.
Mae coughed on the ground, feeling her breath return after a while. She looked up at her dear friend, appearing not well at all. Steadily getting up, her voice hoarse, she asked, "Allie, what happened?"
Alicia shifted her gaze to Mae, her voice icy, lacking the usual warmth, "Mae, did you know that Damian is Tobias?" If her best friend knew this, then Mae had also deceived her.
Mae bit her lip, seeing the disappointment in Alicia's golden eyes, she explained, "Allie, I'm sorry; I didn't mean to deceive you. Back then, when I discovered this jerk's true identity, I intended to tell you directly. But my mate is Ellis, and he begged me not to reveal this jerk's true identity."
Tobias frowned, regretting that he hadn't kicked this meddlesome she-wolf out of the car when he had the chance. He stared at Alicia without saying a word.
Her face was as pale as snow, her golden eyes seemingly devoid of light. They were like a pair of dull golden clods, making Alicia look worn out and on the verge of collapsing. As if with just a little force, he could shatter this mate he had deceived, who had possibly deceived him too.
Moreover, now there was an additional pungent smell resembling chemical agents emanating from her, mixing with the foul odor. Tobias frowned, suddenly having a bad premonition. "Alicia, you need to calm down and listen to the rest of my story."
"Your story? You mean your lies?" Alicia snorted, mocking, "Since I married you, I've been living in the lies woven by you and Alpha Ellis. Your disability was fake; lying in the medical center for ten years was fake; being friends with Alpha Ellis was fake; every word you both said to me was a lie. Did you and Alpha Ellis enjoy watching me struggle between my mate and my husband? What a nasty hobby!"
Mae sensed Alicia's emotions were off, witnessing a smile she had never seen before, one that sent shivers down her spine. "Allie, this jerk used a dual identity because he and Alpha Ellis are seeking revenge. I can testify."
"Testify? Mae, are you still helping them deceive me now?" Alicia asked, her gaze towards Mae no longer gentle. Tears glistened in her golden eyes, a clear bloodstain on her lower lip, fists clenched at her sides. "I thought even if my husband was a liar, my best friend would never lie to me."
"No, Allie, listen..." Mae tried to approach Alicia, but a sturdy arm blocked her – Tobias.
"She's not right at the moment. Her mind is in chaos," Tobias frowned, addressing Mae, but his eyes never left his wife standing by the car window.
Tobias's mind raced; he had noticed Alicia becoming more easily agitated since leaving the Scarlett Pack. He initially attributed it to the hormonal imbalance from her pregnancy.
However, Alicia's reactions and behavior just now were not typical of the mate he knew. The Alicia he knew was kind, innocent, and possessed a strong sense of morality. Even if she was a bit stubborn and conservative in matters of emotional things, she was not the impulsive, unwilling-to-listen type.
As her mate with a mind link established, Alicia's consciousness now felt like a forest shrouded in thick fog to him. He couldn't read what she was thinking.
Moreover, since Mae got in the car, Tobias had been bothered by one thing—why did the surroundings suddenly become so quiet? Tobias glanced at the car door, surprised to find Dr. Edward, who had been lying on the ground, was now nowhere to be seen.
A dreadful thought formed in his intricate, rapidly processing mind. Did Dr. Edward have issues? Did he do something to Alicia?
"You're wrong, Tobias. I have never been more clear than I am right now."
Alicia's words interrupted Tobias's thoughts. He widened his eyes as he noticed Alicia shedding two bloodied tears that stained her pale cheeks.
"I, Alicia. Isobel. Scarlett. Here and now, officially reject you, Tobias. Noah. Wilton, as my mate."
