CHAPTER 19. I'm Paula's husband!

Robert quickly got out of the car and took out a wheelchair. Then he helped Mark sit down.

"Let's go."

Sitting in the wheelchair, the man turned his head slightly and smiled at him. "You will lead the way."

With mixed feelings, Paula took Mark to the hospital. They entered the hospital in silence and walked through the lobby.

As they entered the lift, she couldn't hold back any longer and finally tilted her head to look at him.

"Grandpa Aliston said that you are a person who doesn't like noise and bustle, and you don't like talking to strangers. Why did you insist on coming to see my mother?"

When she hadn't known him well, she could feel that he was a very serious person. After meeting him, she felt not only very serious but also arrogant and introverted.

He was definitely not the kind of man who liked to talk about ordinary family matters with relatives.

"Because I'm curious."

"About what?"

The man turned around, looking at her small body through the black silk. "What kind of family could raise someone as stupid as you?"

Paula said nothing.

"We're just an ordinary family."

She pursed her lips. Wait, that's not the point. "The point here is that I'm not stupid!"

Leaning back in the wheelchair, the man chuckled. "You're fighting over pleasantries."

Paula wasn't in the mood to argue with him, so she nervously looked at the changing lift number with mixed feelings.

On the one hand, she was very worried about her mother's safety. But on the other hand, she was also worried about the whereabouts of her other two aunts.

Quickly, they finally reached the fifteenth floor.

"What a nice hospital! It costs a lot of money to be here someday, doesn't it? Louis, where did you get so much money from?"

As the lift doors opened, a clear feminine voice rang out.

"Brother, now is not the time to talk about this. They saved big brother over there."

"Don't talk about big brother first. Where did you get so much money? It won't be cheap to take care of her this time either, right? It should cost a few thousand dollars, right? We could buy two hundred and seven kilometers of land in our town with a few thousand dollars."

"That's just how it is! We're so poor! Why do you have so much money? Let's treat the old lady's illness casually. She's old, and her illness is incurable. Let's keep the money and divide it among ourselves."

Paula had just stepped out of the lift when she heard her aunt discussing money matters with her uncle, and the veins on her forehead twitched.

"Sis, I really don't have any money right now. Even if I have it, it's money for you too! To treat our brother's illness!"

Standing between his two sisters, Louis Mayer was impatient. "They're trying to save my brother over there, and his life expectancy is uncertain. Yet you keep saying things like that now!"

"In any case, she's older and will be gone one day. Those of us who are still alive should live a good life."

"That's true. I'm sure Big Brother doesn't want to see us living a bad life in the village in the future when he's in heaven. No, waste all the money on her."

Hannah Mayer and Lucy Mayer said one after another, almost going to find Louis to see how much money he had.

Stepping out of the lift, Paula clenched her fists. She immediately rushed over and stood in front of Louis.

"Aunt Hannah, Aunt Lucy, you're still trying to do things for mom now. How can they say such things here?"

Hannah glanced at Paula, and a wry smile spread across her face.

"The Mayer family is talking. At what point did you take your turn to interfere? You're just an outsider. Remember, you're just a foster child!"

"That's right. The Mayer family has done its job by raising you to the age of twenty. You can't meddle in our family affairs anymore!"

Paula gritted her teeth. She looked up and glared angrily and cruelly at the two cruel and unkind middle-aged women in front of her.

"Even if I'm not Mayer, I also have a sense of priority. I know that I will definitely save Mom as long as there is hope! You two are worse than someone outside!"

Lucy laughed.

"What you're saying is really disgusting. It's not your right to offer opinions here, like the Mayer family members are talking about. Who do you think you are? Did you even put a cent into that woman? Doesn't all that money belong to the Mayer family?"

"How easy for you to comment. Louis, you said that the woman's hospitalization fees were not your responsibility. Whose is it?"

"It's mine!"

As Hannah and Lucy argued with Paula and her uncle in a threatening manner, a deep and serious male voice interrupted them.

The Mayer family members were confused. They looked in the direction of the voice at the same time.

They saw a stocky middle-aged man pushing a young man. The man in the wheelchair was wearing a very fine suit, and his eyes were covered with a piece of black silk.

The man's face was rough and deep, and although his eyes were covered, others could feel his noble, reserved, and proud aura.

By sitting in his wheelchair, it made him look like he was on a throne. His entire body exuded an oppressive aura. Inevitably, people gave him sideways glances out of fear and anxiety.

Since everyone was surprised, Robert pulled Mark to where they were.

Mark glanced slightly at Paula's face, which was flushed with anger. Then he handed her a wet washcloth. "Wipe your face."

"Thank you." Paula took it awkwardly and wiped her face lightly.

The cool touch of the wet washcloth made her feel very relaxed.

"Who are you?" After being silent for a while, Lucy finally turned around and looked at Mark with her eyebrows furrowed in anger.

"The Mayer family members are talking. Do you have anything to do with it?"

"As the son-in-law of the Mayer family, I certainly have the right to ask about it when they speak."

He revealed a cold and proud smile. "Paula, why don't you introduce me?"

Paula finally spoke up to introduce him.

"Aunt Hannah, Aunt Lucy, this is Mark Aliston, my husband."

After saying that, she shyly glanced at Louis. "Dude, you already know him, right?"

Louis nodded. "Yes. Mr. Aliston, we meet again."

His voice was respectful, but as soon as he turned around, he gave Paula a sharp look. He blamed her and pronounced.

"Don't you see that it's already a mess? Why did you bring it here?"

Paula pursed her lips in complaint and said nothing. The others didn't see the movement between Louis and his nephew, but Mark saw it clearly.

He revealed a soft smile that was faintly visible.

"Uh, Paula's husband?" Lucy crossed her arms in front of her chest and coldly assessed the man sitting in the wheelchair in front of her.

"When did Paula get married? Did she even marry a disabled person? What does it mean to blindfold you with something like that? Could it be that you're blind?"

As she spoke, she moved closer to Mark. He was about to remove the silk from Mark's eyes.

However, her hand had only reached the center when Robert kicked her.

Lucy couldn't even cry out in pain, as Robert had already caught her.

"Sir, what should I do with this guy?"

Robert no longer looked like his usual smiling self. At that moment, he didn't look like a middle-aged driver at all, but more like a trained special forces soldier.

"Let him go." Mark smiled weakly, and his voice was calm and indifferent.

"I hope these two aunties can listen to me carefully. I paid my mother-in-law's medical bills. Uncle Mayer has no right to make decisions because it costs money for Paula to show unconditional respect to her mother. Even though I am a disabled person, they cannot afford to offend me."
