Chapter 90 Impeaching The Vampire Lord

Chapter 90 Impeaching The Vampire Lord
Ethan

I lifted Elaine off the ground and moved inside in a hurry.
“Get a doctor, hurry!” I yelled.
I took Elaine into her room, laying her on the bed. I tore her dress away from where the cloth was and checked her wounds.
I couldn't see the silver bullet, and the place had stopped burning, but the hole was still there, and the blood still stained her skin.
It took five minutes to get the doctor here, and while waiting, I found a wet towel and cold water to cool her temperature.
She kept groaning like she was in a deep sleep and having a bad nightmare, but wouldn't open her eyes.
When the doctor arrived, I let him check her.
He stayed beside her for minutes, checking her pulse and dressing her wound. When he was done, he turned to me. “She is not badly hurt, my lord.”
“The bullet didn’t go inside her. I guess she used her energy to pull it back out before it could go in deeply,” he continued.
“She only lost consciousness because she was tired or because she used too much energy,” he added.
“When will she open her eyes?” I asked.
What he narrated wasn't really necessary; what I needed to know was when she would be waking up.
“She might sleep throughout the rest of the day, but she should be awake tomorrow,” he said.
I nodded, hands going into my pocket as I watched Elaine, whose eyes were closed on the bed.
We might have issues most of the time, but I couldn't bear seeing her get hurt like this. We've been together for years, we are more than friends, we are comrades.
But it's strange how she could get hurt. Elaine barely gets hurt in trivial fights like this.
Her eyes were sharp, and her instincts weren't left out. She could smell every damn thing out, including the bullet when it was heading towards her.
I was sure she could have avoided it, and the reason why she didn’t was the most confusing thing I couldn't find out at the moment.
A gentle knock came on the door, and I hummed a response for the person to come inside.
Maverick appeared behind me and bowed his head slightly before coming closer.
I turned to him and raised my brows, a way of telling him to go ahead with whatever he's here to report.
“There's another issue, my lord,” he said.
My gaze told him to continue as I said nothing. “The council members are here.”
I groaned inwardly, my face getting clad with frustration immediately.
“And Hazel?” I asked.
“She returned to her room. I don't think she's going to try leaving all by herself,” he said.
I nodded. “Let's go.”
“First, get someone to stay with Elaine,” I added.
Maverick bowed, and we both walked out of the room together.
I headed out of the house to the hall where I knew the council members would be at the moment.
When I got inside, they were murmuring, and whatever they were saying was undoubtedly about me.
They kept their mouths shut and looked awkwardly at me.
I ignored every single one of them and walked to the front of the room. They turned their gazes to me, and I stood with my hands in my pockets.
“What brings you to visit?” I asked.
One of them laughed. “What a rude way to say greetings to people who are at least nine hundred years older than you!”
I laughed and walked over to the particular man who just spoke. “Do you think age is power here?”
He suddenly became nervous, turning his gaze to the floor, but I wasn't done with him.
“Who rules this coven?” I asked.
He dared not refuse to answer.
“You do,” he said, his voice low.
I lifted his gaze up with my hands, making him look into my eyes.
“Next time, I hope you don't forget that!” I spat.
Another one raised his voice. “So imprudent!”
I didn't respond and simply walked back to the front, where I had been standing.
Again, I asked. “What brings you to visit?”
“Before anything else…” That was Marcus. “I heard there was chaos with the werewolves today. I heard you have a werewolf girl you are keeping under your roof here.”
My gaze, which was on him, darkened. “That's not pack matters, is it?”
“Why exactly are you all here?” The question was directed at Marcus.
“You stood the elders up on your wedding day, Ethan!” He snapped. “You should at least apologize!”
I didn't say a word. “And if I can't?”
Another elder's voice rose. “We will go straight to the point.”
“We didn't come here to ask for your apology; we came here to remove you from being the vampire lord,” he said. “You’ve done enough; it's time to let someone else become the coven leader.”
I only laughed. They didn't look like they were playing jokes with me; they were damn serious about it.
“Who is in support of this?” I asked. No one raised their hands, and that made me chuckle hard.
I moved my feet and walked in their midst, going about with my hands placed in my pockets. They wouldn't even dare to look at me, they didn't dare to hold my gaze, and tell me that they want me impeached.
I walked back to where I was standing and beckoned to Maverick.
“Prepare ballot boxes. It looks like they will prefer voting,” I said.
He bowed and walked out to quickly get it done, and a few minutes later, he was back with the boxes.
He placed them beside me, one at my right hand side and the other at the left.
“Here are the boxes,” I said with my voice raised, like I was making an announcement so the voice could reach everyone.
“You are free to cast your votes anywhere.” I paused. “The red paper is to vote to get me removed.”
“While the green is agreeing to let me remain the coven leader,” I added. “Whatever the outcome is, I shall accept.”
The papers were placed right beside the boxes that were beside me.
They all looked at me, and I could see the fear in their eyes. They were hesitant and didn't want to cast the votes; none of them attempted to move from where they stood.
I smirked. It would have been easier if they could vote without me looking at them, but no, I want to watch them vote for my impeachment.
Marcus was the first to move, and he picked the red paper, sliding it into the box.
I raised a brow, my eyes asking. “Who else?”
Many others came forward and till the vote ended, no other person casted the red paper into the box.
When Maverick poured them out for us to see, there was only Marcus wanting me to get removed.
It made me smirk. Tens of them want me removed, but the fear…. They couldn't because of the fear of what I’d do to them behind their closed doors.
“That’s the end, I'll take my leave,” I said. “If you don't want me as the coven leader anymore, then go kill yourself.”
I moved past everyone, and I liked what my presence did to them…. Because they were all shivering in fear.
