Chapter Thirty Five

**DAMON’S POV**

The air grew cooler as we moved deeper into the woods, the dappled sunlight filtering through the leaves above us. I could feel the undercurrent of tension threading through our little group—Eve’s determination, the stranger’s urgency, and my own instinctual need to protect her. The woods felt alive with possibility, but they also felt laden with danger.

“Stay close,” I murmured to Eve as we navigated a narrow path. The stranger led the way, his movements swift and purposeful, but I kept a close watch on Eve. She was processing a whirlwind of information, and I wanted to ensure she felt secure.

“Do you really think they’re watching us?” Eve asked, her voice low but steady.

“I wouldn’t put it past them,” I replied, glancing over my shoulder to scan the area. “We have to be cautious. If this guy is right, we might be walking into a trap.”

Eve nodded, her expression a mixture of fear and resolve. I admired her strength—she was handling all of this with more grace than I could have imagined.

“Just remember, whatever we find, we’ll face it together,” I said, squeezing her hand for reassurance.

We walked in silence for a while. The only sounds were the rustling leaves and the occasional call of a distant bird. The stranger led us further into the trees, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that we were being drawn into something larger than ourselves.

Eventually, we reached a small clearing—an old, overgrown campsite with remnants of a fire pit in the center. The trees encircled us like sentinels, creating a sense of privacy.

“This is it,” the stranger said, his voice low as he surveyed the area. “We can talk here without fear of being overheard.”

“Why here?” Eve asked, looking around cautiously.

“It used to be a safe haven for those who sought refuge from the rival factions,” he explained. “It’s been abandoned for years, but it should still be secure.”

I watched Eve’s face as she processed his words. There was a flicker of something in her eyes—recognition, perhaps? “What do you mean by ‘rival factions’?” she pressed, her curiosity ignited.

“They’re groups that seek to control the power that runs in your bloodline,” he said, his expression serious. “You may not realize it, but you come from a long line of wolves with abilities that others covet. They will stop at nothing to obtain that power.”

Eve’s brows furrowed in confusion. “But I don’t feel any different. I’m just me. I don’t have any special abilities.”

“Not yet,” he replied, his tone firm. “But you have the potential. It’s buried deep, and you need to remember who you are to access it. The danger will only grow stronger if you don’t.”

I stepped forward, feeling a surge of protectiveness. “What do you know about her family? What happened to them?”

He turned to me, meeting my gaze. “Your family was targeted because of their strength. They tried to protect you, but in the chaos, things went wrong. You need to uncover the truth to understand why they were taken from you.”

Eve’s hands trembled slightly as she processed the information. “Taken? What do you mean?”

“There are those who believe that if they can eliminate you, they’ll seize control over your family’s legacy,” he explained, his voice grave. “That’s why it’s crucial for you to remember. You must reclaim your power before it’s too late.”

My heart raced at the implications of his words. I felt the weight of Eve’s past crashing down on us like a storm. The stakes were far higher than I’d ever anticipated.

“What can we do?” I asked, my voice steady despite the turmoil inside. “How can we protect her?”

“You need to prepare her,” he said, looking at Eve with a mix of urgency and compassion. “Training is essential. She must learn to harness her abilities and confront her fears. Only then will she be ready to face the threats that lie ahead.”

Eve’s eyes widened, and I could see the uncertainty creeping back in. “Training? I don’t even know what I’m capable of!”

“That’s why I’m here,” he assured her. “I can guide you through the process. I’ve trained others like you, and I know what it takes to unlock your potential.”

I could see the flicker of hope in Eve’s eyes, but it was quickly overshadowed by doubt. “What if I can’t do it?” she whispered, her voice trembling.

“You can,” I said firmly, stepping closer to her. “You’re stronger than you realize, and you won’t be alone in this. I’ll be right by your side, every step of the way.”

Eve looked at me, her gaze searching for reassurance. “You really believe I can do this?”

“I know you can,” I replied, my voice steady and unwavering. “You’ve already shown that you’re capable of so much. You just need to believe in yourself.”

The stranger watched us, a hint of approval in his eyes. “This bond will be essential. You’ll need each other’s strength as you navigate the challenges ahead.”

Eve took a deep breath, her resolve returning as she straightened her shoulders. “Okay. I’m willing to try. I want to understand my past and protect what’s important to me.”

“Good,” the stranger said, a hint of a smile breaking through his serious demeanor. “Then let’s begin.”

As he spoke, I felt a flicker of determination ignite within me as well. We were stepping into uncharted territory, but I was ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead. I would fight for Eve, for our pack, and for the future we could build together.

“Let’s get started,” I said, my voice strong. “We’ll face this together, no matter what.”

And as we began to lay the groundwork for Eve’s training, I felt a sense of purpose wash over me. We were ready to confront the shadows of her past, and together, we would reclaim the light that had been lost for too long.
