Chapter 55

Chapter 55
Damon’s POV

I couldn’t contain my jealousy. When she began to plead with me to let Seth go even after I had found him pinning her to the wall, I couldn’t help the feeling of rage that spread through me.

I could feel her desperation, but I couldn’t help but wonder if she felt that way because I was manhandling Seth, I mean she was basically begging me for his life. How annoying.

I had felt her fear through our bond, she had seemed increasingly afraid, and I couldn’t help but go look for her. When Seth excused himself from the table and went the same way my mate had gone, I couldn’t help but feel very uncomfortable. I knew they had once been together, but she was mine now.

My brother had tried to engage me in more meaningless conversation, but ever extra pounding of her heart kept me restless and tense.

Just when I couldn’t bare it anymore, I went after my mate, only to see her in that horrible position with Seth. All wise thinking in me flew out the window instantly, and the only thought on my mind was to rip his damned head off.

Now, she was glaring at me as though I am the one at fault, I wasn’t the one who almost allowed another man mark me.

“What is that supposed to mean?” Her voice was hard, I could basically feel the anger and disappointment in her voice.

For a moment my heart tightened and I almost forgot the art of breathing properly. The anger in her eyes seemed to flow through her, crouching my own heart painfully.

I swallowed the pain and turned to look at her, the look in her eyes further sending a rush of emotions through me. I took a deep breathe and told her hardly.

“Are you angry that I disrupted your interaction with your dare ex, is that why you pleaded for me not to hurt him.” She did something terribly wrong, or maybe it was just my jealousy crowding my judgement right now.

But the words had already been said, I couldn’t take back what I had already said, but I could see the pain in her eyes. My heart tightened painfully at that.

“Is that what you take me for?” She sounded so hurt and sad.

I found myself regretting talking to her that way. I took a step closer to her, reaching out to touch her, but she took a step back. That alone was enough to send a painful feeling through me, and I clenched my jaw tightly.

“Eve…….” I trailed off, hating myself for being the cause of the pained expression I was seeing on her face right now.

She lifted her hand as she took another step back. Her eyes suddenly glossy with unshed tears that made my heart tighten.

“I want to sleep in my room tonight.” She suddenly announced. I opened my mouth to speak, but no words came out from my lips, I took another step closer to her, I wanted to hug her and apologize for hurting her, but she took another step backwards. I growled.

“Don’t touch me.” Her voice, icy cold and strong sliced through the remaining fragments of my almost shattered heart. How difficult it was going to be for me to think straight.

“Eve, I am sor……………”

But she was already gone, hurrying off as though she was being pursued by terrifying beasts. I felt her sadness through our bond, the bone shattering pain that flowed through her, the pain I had caused her.

I followed her, walking as fast as I could to catch up with her. Shit, what have I done? Is she ever going to forgive me after this?

My heart was pounding hard against my ribcage, and I felt very uncomfortable and angry, but my anger was no longer directed at her, but at my own self for making her sad.

I finally caught up with her just when she was about to enter her room, and I grabbed her hand turning her to face me. Her face was red with rage, so fierce, one that I would never be accustomed with.

“Hey, I shouldn’t have said that……”

But she threw her hand away from mine roughly, her eyes hard as they bore into mine in a way that made my breath hitch.

“You really believe I would stoop that low?” Her voice was hard with pain and anger. I suck in a breath.

“Eve, I….. he almost marked you.”

“And what? You think I wanted that, you didn’t even wait to hear my own part of the story and you just concluded on what you want. Is that it?”

My eyes narrowed, and I found myself cursing for even making this escalate to this point. “I……….”

“You don’t trust me, do you?” Her voice was now low, almost breathless. “You claim you love me and all, but you don’t trust me.”

I swallowed hard. “I love you, and I trust you Eve, you are mate, I just don’t trust you with……… with him.” I finished letting out a deep sigh.

She shook her head lightly, as though she was disappointed. “Yeah, I should have guessed that…… goodnight, Damon.” With that she entered her room and slammed that door to my face without another word.

I just stood there, completely rooted to the spot and unable to organize my thoughts. shit, what have I just done? Damn it.
