Chapter 63 Do you like him?
Chapter 63 Do you like him?
Leona
It had been two days since we last saw him. Since that night we ran and hunted in the woods. I heard from the Beta that he left for some investment meetings and took a few warriors with him.
Besides running the pack, Leo owned a bunch of businesses that he handled himself. Or I should say the pack owned them. Some of those businesses were in human territory too.
And knowing he was out there with humans, part of me felt jealous. What if he found some human girl attractive enough to make her his Luna? I guessed she would be less complicated than me.
I let out another breath, annoyed at my own brain.
I washed all the dishes in the sink after eating breakfast and went to the living room to kill time since I was not going to training today. It had been over a week since I last showed up at the training ground. I would probably go tomorrow. Or the next day. Or whenever. Lately, I just could not find the motivation to train.
Dad went to work like usual, so I was home alone. I had two hours to myself before I needed to go to the daycare for my shift. If anything, the daycare was the only thing keeping me from losing my mind. It was the only normal thing left in my already messy life.
I turned on the TV and let some morning shows play while I grabbed the book I was reading and picked up where I left off.
With my legs up on the sofa and my back against the armrest, I was starting to get lost in the story when someone knocked on the door.
I went to find one of Ethan's warriors standing there with a basket of fruit and a big smile. If I remembered right, his name was Damien.
"Hi. What is up?" I asked, smiling back at him while looking at the basket in his hand.
"Hi, Leona. Ethan told me to give this to you. They are from someone. I think the card in there will tell you where it came from. Ethan said he had it checked, so it is safe to eat."
My eyebrows went up. "What do you mean by checked? Does he need to double check every time I get a package?" I scrunched my nose. Was my brother being way too protective?
"No, not like that." He laughed a little before going on. "Only because it came from another pack. If I or the other warriors give you something, there is no need to have it checked. You understand, right? Security and all that."
I stopped him before he could keep talking. "Yeah, yeah, I get it. I just did not know it was not from here. I will take it. Thanks for bringing it." I gave him a warm smile and took the basket from his hands.
He smiled wide enough to show his dimples and waved before leaving. "No problem. See you, Leona."
"Wow. This thing is heavy," I said to myself as I turned toward the hallway table. I set it down carefully and looked around for any card like he mentioned.
I found one and opened it. My eyes went wide when I read the note.
To my lovely Leona,
Take this nice gift as a thank you. I had a great time with you. Having you in my arms felt natural, like you were supposed to be there.
I will see you soon.
Cyrus
Ah. This man was crazy. He made it sound like we did so much more when I only held onto his arms. Some guys had big egos. I mean, we only shared one moment at his gala, right?
I snorted and left the card open on the table before going back to the sofa. I ignored his gift and just kept reading.
Not even a minute later, another knock came.
My body went stiff when his scent started filling the house. I sat up straight and put my book on the table before hurrying to the door and brushing off my clothes for any lint.
I took a deep breath and opened the door slowly, trying to hide how excited I felt.
Leo stood at my front door. No shoes. No shirt. Just his shorts. My eyes moved over his bare body, and I licked my lower lip without thinking, just enjoying the way his stomach muscles moved when he breathed.
Then my eyes went to his face. He had a tight smile on his lips. His hair was messy. He looked like he just got done running.
He looked tired. The stubble on his chin was growing out longer than he usually kept it, but he still looked good enough to eat.
My Goddess. How did you make something this beautiful?
He ran his fingers through his hair and licked his lips before opening them to speak. He looked nervous, but his smile said he was in a good mood. "Can I come in?"
I nodded and opened the door wider for him, biting my lower lip so I would not break into a huge smile.
I saw him look at the fruit basket. And when I saw the card still lying there open, my heart started pounding loud.
Shit. Why did I not close that?
He raised his hand and put a single wild red rose next to the basket. Then he went to sit by the sofa.
Was that for me? He must have picked it from the stream. There were wild roses growing there the last time I went.
His eyes looked around the living room but would not land on me. His jaw got tight.
I felt something stuck in my throat as I looked back and forth between him and the flower.
"Do... do you want a shirt?" I did not wait for him to answer. I just ran into Ethan's room and grabbed one.
When I came back, he was still sitting there. But his head was down. His hands were clasped together tight, and his arms rested on his thighs. He was breathing hard.
"Here." I stood in front of him and held out the shirt.
He lifted his head. His face showed nothing, but his eyes kept changing between his deep dark blue and full black as he looked at me.
He reached for my hand instead of the shirt and pulled me into his lap. I did not fight him. Sparks traveled down my body as I sat there quietly with him. His face went into the curve of my neck. He breathed me in. I stayed still and let my scent calm him down. Soon enough, his breathing slowed.
"Do you like him?"
