Chapter 56 - Death!
Alexander's POV:
I turned behind hearing Sapphire's loud scream.
She came before me and gave me a hard push; I literally stumbled in the left side.
Before I could understand anything, a bullet hit her body and she fell on the floor.
I never heard the gunshot; I saw a Russian was targeting me. He was pointing a silencer gun at me.
I shot him immediately and my eyes darted on Sapphire. She took the bullet to save me.
"Angel! Angel!" I screamed, patting her cheeks.
"A-Alexander-r, I love you-u. P-please d-don't f-forget m-me a-after my d-death." She couldn't talk clearly; she was feeling difficulty to breathe.
She shakily tried to stretch up her hand to touch me but couldn't either. Her hand fell on the side limply. Her eyes were droopy.
"D-don't close your eyes, Sapphire. Don't you dare close your eyes on me! Stay with me!" I yelled frantically. Her lips quavered, in attempt to say something but nothing came out of her mouth.
She closed her eyes, tears slipped from her eyes.
This attack was over. My men killed almost all the Russians. A few Russians were hiding here and there. My men kept the Russian leader hostage. His men were trying to sneak attack on us.
I killed the man who was the Russian spy. My father and mother were taken out of this mansion safely through the tunnel. I was also coming for Sapphire to take her out of this mansion. We almost took control over this attack. Almost all Russians were killed; some were already caught by us as hostage.
I was feeling like my heart was being ripped away from my chest. Within a second, her pink dress was soaked red with blood. Her face was getting pale as white sheet.
"Sapphire! Angel! Don't close your eyes! Please listen to me." I cried holding her limp body to my chest. I never cried for anyone in my life, but now tears were running down my cheeks for her. I couldn't lose her, it would kill me.
"Dante!"
"Jeff!"
"Hollard!" I yelled.
Her body stilled and heaving of her chest stopped. Her body was getting cold.
They all came running to me; all of them were holding guns. All of them stunned to see Sapphire's bleeding body in my arms.
"Get the car out, now!" They rushed out.
I carried Sapphire inside the car and as quickly as possible; reached the hospital.
I took her to the emergency unit.
"I don't care, save her or I will kill every one of you." I warned the doctors. A tornado was going inside my mind.
"Sir, she is shot with a bullet and lost a lot of blood. We are not sure, her pulse is almost gone. Operating is the only option for now though it's very dangerous as she has lost a lot of blood and her pulse is very weak." One of the doctors said.
"I don't care; you have to save her or else..." I was frantic by now; I couldn't imagine her die, not for the selfish bastard like me who forcefully snatched her life from her, made her go through extreme pain.
My brain wasn't functioning anymore. If something happened to her, I would kill myself. I was the reason of her misery. I took away her peaceful life, brought her in my world. The world which is corrupted with fire, bloodshed, bullets and screams. She actually didn't belong here. I forced her to stay here. Finally, when she loved me, wanted to be with me forever, this happened today.
I went inside the emergency room where Sapphire was taken, "There is no heartbeat." I heard one of the doctors saying.
I felt my world came to an abrupt stop. She couldn't die.
"CPR!" The oldest doctor yelled and began giving her CPR. But her body was still with no movement.
"Still no rhythm." Another doctor spoke, all of their foreheads creased.
"Last option. Give me the defibrillator." The old doctor said. He cut her dress with a scissor and exposed her chest. He connected the defibrillator with power and rotated the dial clockwise.
"360 Joules, ready to go." Another doctor said from beside.
After settling the padel, he administered defibrillation shock. Stil, l she wasn't responding. My body was getting cold in fear.
"Again." Another one mentioned.
Again he gave her shock and suddenly Sapphire coughed, taking a deep breath. Her eyes were still closed.
"We got her heartbeat." They all said in a same time. I sighed in relief.
"Mr. Rodriguez, her condition is very critical, she lost a lot of blood but we must operate a surgery right now to remove the bullet. Please go from here. Let us do our job." One of them informed me.
I got out of the emergency room. Sapphire was transferred into an operation theater. I slumped my body on the chair in front of the operation theater.
Actually, it happened all because of me. If I hadn't involved her in my life, she would be safe. I did this to her.
She wanted to live happily with me. She was so simple, so beautiful, so pure in heart. All she wanted was love, nothing more.
Regret would be an understatement to describe what I was feeling. This life was not for Sapphire, she was an angel. She didn't belong here, in this world and with a demon like me.
A selfish person like me couldn't give anything to the woman he loved but pain, agony and tears.
"Alex." My head turned to the direction of the soft voice.
"Mom." She hugged me. She wiped my eyes, I didn't even realize that still I was crying.
"Darling, even the strongest person sometimes needs a shoulder to lean on. She is a strong child. She will be fine." Mom assured me.
Two hours later, doctors came out of the operating room.
"We have successfully removed the bullet but as the bullet hit very close to her heart it was very risky. She narrowly escaped the death. She has already lost a great amount of blood and yet we had to perform surgery at the same time. Her condition is not very good. Her pulse is still very weak but she is breathing. We are not sure when she will regain consciousness. Pray to God." Saying, the doctor left.
I was speechless to say anything. A lone tear slipped from my eyes and I made my decision.
************************************
After five days, Third person's POV:
Alexander never left Sapphire's side at all. He even didn't go home for once. He stayed in the hospital with Sapphire all the time.
Many wires were attached with her body. She was still in intensive care.
Alexander was sitting beside her and slowly she opened her eyes. Her blue eyes got to see the most handsome man sitting beside her.
"Angel, " Alexander said, his eyes were teary, he looked pained, so vulnerable. His face was saying he was tired, exhausted and sleepless. Dark circles formed under his both eyes.
Everything felt like a dream to Sapphire. She thought that she was already dead, and then how come Alexander was here, with her? She wanted to ask but her throat felt so dry. Her whole body was in pain and her chest was in worst pain.
Alexander came near her and let his tear drop on her cheek. Then it clicked in Sapphire, she was alive luckily.
She smiled at him.
To her smile, more tears fell from his eyes. Sapphire never saw Alexander crying like this. Where was the arrogant man!
A light frown formed in her forehead.
"How happy I am now that you are awake, angel." Alexander leaned down and kissed her forehead.
He called the doctor.
After examining Sapphire, he said to Alexander, "It seems everything is alright with her. She is safe now, but as she still recovering from a great physical trauma, I suggest you to keep her here for some more days for observation. Then you can take her home." The doctor said.
Alexander nodded.
Six days later, Alexander took care of Sapphire like she was a doll made of wax. She was getting recovery slowly.
Now she could sit on the bed and go to toilet on her own, didn't need help from the nurses.
The doctor came everyday thrice to check on her.
"You can get discharged from the hospital. But remember that the surgery wound is not healed completely. Eat healthy, stay stressless, keep your wound clean so that it doesn't get infected. No need to do any heavy physical activity. You can come to see me after seven days. I will go now. Best of luck." The old doctor told her. Sapphire smiled at him.
Alexander finished all the procedures of her discharge. Sapphire was waiting for him in the hospital room.
Alexander came in her room. Sapphire gave him a breathtaking smile. She was prepared to leave.
"How are you feeling?" Alexander asked her sitting beside her on the bed.
"I am fine. I can't wait to go home. Hospital is actually boring." She joked.
Alexander nervously chuckled and was rubbing the back of his neck. He was looking at the floor without meeting his gaze with Sapphire. Sapphire was confused. Alexander heaved a deep sigh.
"I have to tell you something." He looked at her.
"Now? Can't you tell me after we are in your home? Actually hospital room is so boring and white, it's sickening." Sapphire responded.
Alexander shook his head.
"No, I have to tell you here because; I am not taking you in my mansion back." He informed her.
"What? Stop joking." Sapphire said laughing lightly.
Alexander clenched his jaw tightly and unclenched it again.
"I am not joking at all. I am serious." His tone hardened suddenly making Sapphire flinch.
"You aren't taking me with you?" She asked again for confirmation.
Alexander nodded.
"Why?" Sapphire questioned bemused.
"I am taking you out of my life. My life is fucked up. I am a fucked up mafia. You are an angel. You don't deserve me. You deserve a much better person than me. Look at you, today you ended up in the hospital because of me. I don't want this. So, it's for better. I get out of your life. You are an angel who deserves only the bests, not someone devil like me. I am freeing you today. Go away from me and live your life. Make all your dreams come true. I will love you always as long as my heart beats but we can't be together anymore." Alexander maintained his voice was hoarse, hard but his eyes were filled with tears, threatening to fall any moment.
"You sure that you want this?" Sapphire whispered. Tears were running down her cheeks already.
"Yeah, I am."
Sapphire raised her right hand and slapped him hard on the face. Alexander was dumbfounded but he didn't say anything. His eyes went big for a second but he masked the surprise.
"You want to get out of my life now? Huh? You want to discard me out of your life?" She queried clenching her fists.
"How dare you? How dare you say this now?!" She yelled slapping his right cheek again.
"How dare you say this after making me fall for you?!" She demanded, again slapping his left cheek.
"I told you to let me to go before, I pleaded, and I begged but didn't listen to me. You forced me in this life. Now you want to throw me out of your life all of a sudden just because you feel like? Am I that burden to you?" Her voice quavered and she slapped him again. Hot angry tears were falling from her eyes.
"Why? Why? Why?" She cried.
"You should have never made me fall for you, never made me dream about us." She sounded so broken.
"Am I a toy to you who doesn't have any emotion? You think you can play with me while you feel like and dispose me later?" She quizzed and burst into tears.
"Alexander Rodriguez you are a selfish bastard!" She declared.
"I hate you." She sobbed, "I am also a human. I am tired of everyone whom I love leaving me." She hiccupped crying hard.
"What makes you think that you can decide for me, huh bastard?" Sapphire glared at Alexander, still crying. Her body was shaking as she was crying vigorously.
Alexander was silent. Sapphire again landed a slap on his face.
Then again, again, again. He took all her hits silently.
"Why are you silent? Why aren't you saying anything, hypocrite?" Sapphire cried hitting his chest. She was frustrated at him.
She raised her hand again but Alexander caught her wrist this time and tightly hugged her crying body. Sapphire was hurt, was angry. She was wriggling to free from him but he didn't let her go. He hugged her more tightly like his life depending on it.
Still, Sapphire didn't hug him back; Alexander released her and smashed his lips on hers. Sapphire was pushing him but Alexander kissed her more passionately wrapped his hands around her neck and waist. He poured every ounce of love and care he had for her in the kiss. His tongue ran through the corner of her lips, tasting her salty tears.
Sapphire melted in his arms, she kissed him back.
Alexander let her go when she was breathless for air.
"Still you think I am telling you to go because I think you as a burden?" Alexander asked him slowly.
Sapphire didn't respond.
"I love you so much; it hurts to see you are hurt because of me. Do you know how hard it was for me to see you lying in this hospital bed almost lifeless? Do you have any idea how many times I wanted to kill myself because it happened to you because of me. Do you even know how hard it's for me to let you go?" Alexander affirmed.
"Then don't let me go." Sapphire said kissing him.
"You don't understand. I can't keep you safe. I don't want to put your life in danger because of me anymore." Alexander proclaimed impatiently.
"But Alexander what about me? Why did you make me fall so hard for you? I can't live without you. What will I do now?" Sapphire's eyes again filled with tears.
"Why do you love me angel? You are so good, I am an evil. I don't deserve you. I hurt you so much. Why do you love me?" Alexander wanted to know.
"I don't know. It's a hard question. You are still selfish Alexander. But all I know is no one can love me as you do. You made me someone who loves her life, who loves herself and who loves to dream. You made me cherish my life. Because of you, I overcome the fear of my past. You healed the broken girl inside me." Sapphire spoke. Alexander looked at her eyes; they both stared at each other intensely, like they could see their souls. Alexander broke the eye contact first and sighed.
"It's impossible for me to let you go. I can't let you go." He mumbled looked another direction.
"For this life you are doomed with me, I guess." Alexander stated laughing and pulled her in a hug, kissing her forehead.
A bright smile bloomed in her lips and she hugged him back.
"Angel, I just wanted you safe but my life is yours. You know how? You saved my life twice. Not only this time. Eleven years ago, you saved me. So, my life is yours." Alexander informed her.
"What do you mean?" She asked confused.
"You saw the bullet wound in my body. Eleven years ago, it was you who saved my life. I was lying on a street with my bullet wound. You found me and then took me in your aunt's house. She was a nurse. She took out the bullet because you told her. So, you saved me." Alexander described.
Sapphire blinked a few times, to remember the event of eleven years ago.
"You remember this?" Alexander showed her the necklace chain. Doctors took it off in time of surgery.
Sapphire couldn't clearly remember the boy from eleven years ago. She only remembered that he gave her a necklace.
"Yeah, the boy I saved that night, he gave me this. And told me that one day he will come for me? But never came" She spoke.
Alexander smiled.
"Though it's late, he came. And he is me. And this necklace is my grandmother's, our family heirloom." Alexander told her. Sapphire's eyes widened for a moment as the realization hit her.
She was speechless.
"Then we were destined to be together?" She asked looking at the necklace.
"Indeed we were." Alexander muttered.
"Then why did you want to leave me?" She inquired.
"It was my mistake. I wanted to keep you safe. But I never understood how hurtful it was for you, I was being too much selfish." Alexander answered.
"You aren't letting me go anymore?" She questioned raising her one brow.
"Not in this life." Alexander said kissing her lips again.
"Remember this. If you say anything like leaving me, I will cut your dick. You said I own your life." Sapphire threatened seriously.
Alexander burst into laughing.
"Okay, okay. Now let's go home." They both got up and headed out of the hospital room.
