Chapter 54 - Forgetting Is Not Easy!
**Third person's POV:**
Alexander hugged her tightly as Sapphire cried hard, holding onto him. He didn't understand why she was crying so hard, words even came unclear out of her mouth. He decided to let her cry and become light hearted.
Who could put her Angel through such agony that she couldn't bear anymore? He couldn't tolerate her little pain.
Whoever the person behind her tears, he wouldn't spare him/her. He would tear the person into tiny bloody pieces. No one could get away after hurting his angel.
She was almost drained crying for so long. Alexander patted her head and cooed her ear soothingly.
Finally, she stopped crying.
"Angel, what happened? Why are you crying?" He gently asked.
Sapphire held his right arm with both of her hands tightly but stayed silent.
Her lips quivered.
"You know angel that you can tell me anything. I will never judge you." Alexander said stroking her hairs gently.
Sapphire lifted her face up and looked at him. Her bloodshot, red puffy eyes made his heart ache in pain.
Alexander was a ruthless mafia leader; kindness was a foreign notion to him. But right now, he felt a searing pain in his chest. Why couldn't he bear watching her in pain?
He delicately caressed her cheek.
"I am always with you." He spoke.
"I saw her." Sapphire stated.
Alexander furrowed his forehead; he couldn't understand whom she was talking about.
"Who?" Alexander asked, his nose wrinkled as confusion took over his face.
"My mother. Who gave birth of me." Sapphire answered, her voice broke and lips trembled.
Her eyes filled with tears again as she spoke about her. She removed her eyes from Alexander and casted her eyes down looking at her lap.
Again tears began falling in a continuous stream soaking her dress. This time Sapphire was crying silently. Alexander couldn't understand what to say.
Sapphire wiped her eyes and continued, "I saw her in the shelter home. Losing everything, she is living a pitiful life. Alexander she has done unspeakably cruel things to me. She never treated like a human let alone her child. She is the reason my childhood is so scarred. But still when I see she is dying, it hurts. It still hurts." Sapphire sobbed.
"I am angry at myself. Why can't I not care about her and let her die? The daughter inside me still yearns for the mother, the mother who never accepted me as her child to begin with. Alexander, am I pathetic? Do you hate me for being so pathetic?" Sapphire suddenly laughed with tears streaming down from her eyes.
Alexander felt overwhelming love and affection for this innocent girl crying before her. From her childhood till now she had been yearning for love, true love. She was inhumanely treated by her cruel mother. But she was so kind that she still felt hurt seeing that woman hurting.
She wasn't pathetic, she was good and innocent. She was way too good and innocent for this world. Others might found this stupid but Alexander found this most admirable virtue in her. She wasn't pathetic; she was too good for this cruel, crooked world.
He cupped her face and made her look at him.
"I never think you are pathetic. You are an angel, believe it or not. You are one. Your purity, innocence are so rare that you find it absurd. But believe me that's what makes you who you are. My angel." Alexander stated.
"Angel, your heart still cries for your mother, it's not that you are pathetic, you are way too pure for this cruel world which takes advantage of purity, kindness. Real pathetic is your mother who mistreated an angel like you. So, whatever you think never think that you are pathetic. You are too good, my angel, for this world. I will never let you degrade yourself ever. Promise me angel, you will never look down on yourself." Alexander told her.
Sapphire looked at him for some times and then sighed.
"I promise." She replied.
Then she told Alexander about her mother and her situation. Alexander listened everything.
"Angel, to be honest, I don't know if there is something called Karma. But whatever misdeed your mother did, she is getting paid for that. If you want to contribute in her treatment, I will not say anything because it's your right to decide. But yeah, I will really say that this woman doesn't deserve your kindness. Treat her like another homeless person of shelter home, provide her clothes, treatment. But if you want to treat her as a mother, I will strongly say she doesn't deserve it. She herself lost it many years ago." Alexander opined clearly.
It was clear that Alexander hated that woman, who could treat her own kid this cruelly was a shame in the name of mother.
Sapphire nodded but didn't say anything. She sat there silent. It was hard for her.
Alexander slept with Sapphire in her apartment. Sapphire got up early next morning. Alexander was still asleep; she decided to buy some ingredients to make breakfast.
She came out of the bathroom after doing her morning rituals.
Suddenly her phone rang.
She picked up the call; it was from the Shelter home manager.
"Hello."
"Hello, Miss Atkinson, I am Sean Muller, manager of the Aid Shelter home. I actually wanted to inform you something. The woman you talked about yesterday, she actually died last night."
"Whatt!" Sapphire was shocked.
"Yeah, Miss, I am sorry. We will arrange a funeral. I am informing you if you want to attend. You wanted to take responsibility of her treatment. So...." Sapphire cut the call without letting him finish.
She couldn't think anything. It was too much for her to stomach. So many shocking events, so many happenings.
Suddenly she felt some sort of suffocation. She wanted to breathe in the fresh air.
The woman just died was her mother, most precisely her birth giver but she never couldn't be her mother.
She was never a human to the woman, let alone a daughter. She was nothing but a trash to that cruel woman. The woman was so inhuman that she didn't feel a bit of sympathy for Sapphire as a human.
Still, Sapphire wanted her to live as a healthy person. But being honest with herself, she knew she didn't want to attend her funeral and pray for her peace.
The scar, the wounds she was still bearing would not let her do so. She was happy with her present life and didn't want to look back at her painful past anymore.
She decided to move on. It's hard to forget but she would eventually.
