Alucard

Chapter 89

Alucard

"There," I muttered with conviction as I finally put a seal on the envelope with my letter inside before looking at Elijah. "Now, dispatch one of my elite knights to deliver this to Faustina, Elijah. I want her to receive my letter as soon as possible. Understand?"

The smile plastered on my lips couldn't be erased as soon as Elijah hesitantly reached for it. He looked at the letter first before looking at me worriedly.

"Your Royal Highness, you're already engaged to Lady Charity, yet you're exchanging letters with Lady Faustina..." Elijah emphasized, sighing. "You haven't even informed your mate about your engagement..."

My mood shifted as fast as the lightning bolt upon the realization. I pursed my lips into a thin line, looking away.

"I know that..." This made me massage my temple since Elijah made me slap the reality. "I plan to end my engagement soon, so I can be with Faustina."

The statement I uttered caused Elijah to gasp in horror. I didn't have to look at him to see that he was shocked at my words.

"Y-Your Royal Highness..."

The atmosphere of my study room thickened and became impermeable. I could loudly hear his heavy breathing as Elijah went in front of me; the look of horror on his face was palpable.

"What if your father finds out about this?" He shook his head. "He wouldn't like that you are going to end your engagement with the eldest daughter of the House of McKenzie..."

I creased my forehead, huffing. "He's not the Alpha King anymore, Elijah. Remember, Brother Azarius is the current Alpha King. I am not frightened that Father will be mad or what," I said nonchalantly.

Glancing at Elijah, I caught him, who looked like he was about to faint. Amused, I only smirked, seeing how worried he was.

"Elijah, it's fine. And I do not care if my reputation will be tainted. All I want is to be with Faustina. That's all."

With conviction, my eyes darted outside of the window, silently imagining my dollface. My wolf urged me to see her now.

"Your Royal Highness, this might not end well between you and your father if you disobey him."

I only shook my head and gestured my hand so that he could leave. "I shall deal with that. Just do what I tell you." I stood up and fished out my pocket watch inside my breast pocket. "Make certain that Faustina will reply to my letter."

Elijah, who had no choice, stood up and bowed his head. "Your wish is my command, Your Royal Highness."

As soon as I was left alone, I slouched in my seat, clenching my hands while thinking of how I must end my engagement with Charity.

It was a political marriage between the royal lycan family and the House of McKenzie. Our fathers made a decision, even though I was skeptical of it.

Charity and I were good friends, and I knew she had come to like me. I even caught her rejecting her supposed to be her mate just for our engagement.

I only agreed to this arrangement because I was already in my 30s and hadn't found my mate yet. This shouldn't be an issue after all. However, Father couldn't impede my life and just wanted to force me to be in a marriage just as he did to Atticus, engaging to Novalie when he was in his 20s while Novalie was 16.

But Atticus managed to end their engagement. I knew the reason why he did that.

It was because Atticus cared that he wanted Novalie to enjoy her youth and not be tied up. He secretly did it without the knowledge of our father, but my brothers and I knew how he sacrificed even though Atticus learned that Novalie was his mate and had to break her heart for her sake.

However, in my case, it was different. I was engaged to someone who wasn't even my mate. Now that I had found her, I wanted to get out of this engagement as soon as possible and be with Faustina.

Smiling, the image of my beloved dollface occurred in my mind. I suddenly wanted to leave the palace and be with her right now.

"I promise I will come back to you, Faustina..." I murmured with the determination to get out of this engagement as soon as possible.

That was why, after two days of my mission in the East, I couldn't wait to talk to my older brother about my plan to call off my engagement with Charity. Even though I came from an exhausting trip, I didn't mind it.

Faustina, being my inspiration, had become my fuel to continue. I was confident that Brother Azarius would approve it since he had a slight dispute with Father that I'd rather be engaged with someone who was my mate.

He would support me. I knew it.

As I arrived in his study room, my feet dragged me inside after knocking. "Brother, I have something to tell." With a smile on my lips, my eyes pierced to the person who was sitting behind the desk.

I was expecting that would be my older brother, but I caught my breath when I met the older version of Azarius.

"Father...?" Bewildered, I looked around to find Brother Azarius, but the room was only filled with my father's presence. But I bowed before him to show a sign of respect. "Where's Brother Azarius?" I asked in confusion after a moment, seeing how he clasped his hands together, looking earnestly at me.

"He's in the port along with Macedonia."

I slightly creased my forehead upon sensing how distant and cold his tone was. Did he do something that made Mother upset again? Or was there someone made him loose his mood?

This wasn't the only time Father was acting like this. I needed to decipher quickly on what could have been the caused.

"I see. And I have returned from my mission, Father. I came here to report to Brother Azarius, but since he is not here, I shall excuse myself to take a rest."

Just as I was bowed and spun on my heels, Father spoke coldly, "Faustina, huh?"
