Chapter 181 Silent Town
Chapter 181 Silent Town
Now.
Melissa felt elation when Richard landed through the roof, she gasped as she saw his figure and she gestured for the other three to stand down. The entire line of guards that came for them shuddered as they saw who the new person was.
“Demon wolf?” They muttered under their breaths.
Richard made a sudden growl then pounced on them. Even without his innate ability, Richard was a wolf to be reckoned with. He tore through the entire line of guardsmen with relative ease. His actual strength came from his ability to deduce and understand the situation before anyone else. This made him act faster than everyone and gave him fluidity.
That and the fact that he was stronger than everyone in terms of physical attributes. Though genes and his line of birth attributed to his strength, the training he'd put himself through actually formed the backbone for such insane power.
Before Melissa could properly lean on the table he had badly mutilated the entire guardsmen and he turned to Melissa afterwards.
“Are you alright?” He asked, walking towards her with a sense of urgency. “I heard you scream earlier and…” he trailed off when he saw a dead body on the floor. He then glanced nd saw the torture instruments on the table.
“By the Goddess,” he said and rushed towards her.
Melissa felt like she should faint with him around, she just knew everything would be okay once he was here. It was a foregone conclusion that they were safe. “What did they do to you?” He asked.
When he asked that question, Melissa remembered all that had transpired in the room and she felt tears trickling down her face. That was the only reason why she hated being in the presence of her mate. He made her weak- weaker than she thought she could allow herself to be.
“She isn't alright at all,” Hashar spoke. “He…” he said with gritted teeth. “He left us alone and just tortured her,” he muttered. “I am sorry, I tried…” he started to say but Richard cut him short.
“No, thank you. You were here when I wasn't,” he said. “We need to get you guys to safety as fast as possible, you are my main mission,” he said.
He walked towards Melissa and raised her chin up to face him and she wanted to hide it but she didn't have the strength to do anything anymore. He saw the tears trickling down her face and how red her eyes were and he smiled. “Three days,” he said.
Melissa chuckled and shook her head. “Three days,” she replied. He nodded and then cleared the hair from her face and kissed her on the forehead.
“You guys are dating?” Eric blurted and everyone turned to him.
“You are always so slow,” Jacob replied and then walked to one of the guards and picked up one of their bats. Hashar and Eric did the same and Richard only lifted Melissa. He flung her across his shoulders like a sack of potatoes.
“I can walk,” she muttered.
“You are not doing anything anymore after all you have done already.” He replied to her and then he jumped, right through the hole he came through.
“How did you do that?” Melissa asked.
“I punched through it,” he replied.
“Show off,” she said in a low tone and could hear Richard chuckle as he ran forward.
His main objective was just to get her to safety, he didn't care how heavy she was or that there were multiple guards coming towards their location now. He didn't even show the least of concern for Hashar, Jacob and Eric. He just surged forward, jumping across the building.
Melissa for the first time saw the entire area where they were. It was a deserted land, a completely dead zone. It emitted an aura that let you sense that billions of souls had died here and they all died in agony.
The town felt like it was battling against itself in this deathly quietness that shrouded it. Melissa realized immediately that the town was indeed too quiet. Other than the fact that Richard was running she could hear the boots of Hashar and the others behind them, just echoing. She could also easily pick the sound of the multiple boots of their assailants coming for them. It was as if other than the sounds they were making with their boots and their breaths, nothing else was making a sound in the city.
No wind howling, no rats creeping, nothing. Apart from them everything else was still. She rested over Richard's shoulder and watched as he belonged to a couple of cars parked in the far distance. He leapt forward to jump and the moment he would land on the floor, Melissa picked up a gun be cocked.
She sensed Richard did too and he twisted mid air, a gunshot rang across the distance and she felt Richard grunt and they halted mid jump plunging into the ground. He landed on the floor while shielding her head.
Hashar and the three others stopped at the edge of the building and glanced at them. “Leave,” Richard told them. “We have a higher chance of escaping separately,” he said with a commanding voice and they nodded.
“We heard gunshots,” Someone said through the comms.
“That is us, Ashfall over,” Richard replied.
“Are you okay,” Melissa heard Beatrice's voice and she jolted.
“Yeah, the bullet grazed me. I am healing though,” he said. “But a sniper is on our tail and Melissa isn't strong enough to catch bullets,” he replied.
“You found Melissa? She asked.
“Affirmative.” Richard replied.
“Yes,” she said. “Is she alright,”
“She is alive.”
There was a long pause and then Beatrice spoke. “Survive four minutes more and we will get our innate abilities up and running,” she assured.
“Okay,” Richard replied.
Richard laid Melissa down and then let her rest against the wall. “We need to stay low for a while. I don't know how many snipers are here but we can't make ourselves open to them,” he said.
Melissa nodded and then smiled. “I missed you,” she said.
