Chapter 8
Luna's POV
I reached the middle of week two, of preparations for the fall festival.
"Here!" a voice said setting down a bowl of candy in front of me.
I looked up to see Bella
"Oh no! No, no. You know my rule about sweets."
"Oh c'mon! Don't be such a Debby Downer. It's one time a year, I'm sure your skirts and blouses wouldn't mind a couple of pieces of Halloween candy." she said taking a bite of a Twizzler.
"No!" I laughed
"Fine! At least keep it there, for me."
"And what's wrong with you putting it in your cubical?" I said laughing and looking at her
"Because if it's in my cubical then I won't stop eating it, but if it's in yours then I can grab some every once in a while. Notice my strategy."
She said giving me a wink and walking back to her cubical. I laughed and shook my head.
"Trickson could I see you in my office please?" I heard Derek call out, my stomach tightened.
Bella gave me a look of fear as I walked passed her, 'Help Me' I mouthed to her.
"Yes?" reaching his office I walked inside.
"Shut the door please?" I did
"Take a seat." He said motioning his hand towards the empty chair.
I sat down and placed my hands in my lap
"I just received a phone call from Mr. Evans Johnson."
I sat down and placed my hands in my lap
My heart began to beat, please don't say this is regarding my dropping off his sons mail, I thought to myself.
"What is this regarding?" I ask, I'm sure my nerves were evident.
"He has asked for one of my employees to specifically work with him and his team for the banquet he and his wife are hosting next Friday evening." 1
"I'm sorry-I don't understand?"
"He would like it if you would help them organize the rest of the banquet, such as the music, food caterers, and the decorations and there would be pay."
He said folding his hands together and resting them on his desk, I sat up in my seat and took a slow deep breath.
"This seems a little sudden, especially considering the Festival plans aren't done yet and-"
He raised his hand in front of me, a sign to stop talking.
"We have fifteen more people who work in this section of the company. They can manage with minus one." I slowly nodded
"Alright, I'll do it. But why me? I mean we have so many other people on this team...some who have worked here much longer than I."
"Because you were specifically requested..."
"May I ask, by who?"
"Westley Johnson."
My eyes grew wide, and my pulse raced.
"What?"
Derek shrugged
"You must've sparked some sort of interest in him." he said slowly taking a sip from his coffee mug while his gaze never breaks from me.
I sat there, completely still as my mind raced with a thousand plausible reasons as to why he chose me...he wasn't even in charge of the banquet or the festival...I didn't
"Mr. Johnson would like it if you met with he and his wife this evening for dinner, so they can discuss the plans for the banquet with you. Here is the address to their home."
My eyes grew wide as Derek slid the piece of paper with the address on it, over to me.
I grabbed it and slowly nodded
"What am I supposed to wear to this?" I said still looking at the address, confused.
"Trickson don't ask me! Go ask Bella..or Norman."
My eyes shot up to look at him, as I tucked a piece of hair behind my ear slightly embarrassed that I said that out loud.
"Now go, please get back to work." he said shooing me towards the door.
"Okay, yes sir. Thank you." he gave me a nod as I shut his door.
I walked over to my desk and sat down, as Bella appeared next to me, suddenly.
"So! What did he want?" she asked taking a seat on my desk and grabbing another Twizzler from the bowl of candy she left.
"Mr. Johnson has asked for me, to help them plan their banquet for next Friday..." I said in a hushed tone. Bella jumped off my desk and stared me down.
"Are you serious? That's crazy! How'd you manage to pull that one off?"
I slowly shrugged
"I honestly have no idea."
"Well you are obviously going to have dress to impress."
Immediately my eyes shot up to her face,
"You did not seriously just say that?"
She nodded confidently
"I mean it, you can't just go to someone like The Johnson's home dressed like THAT!" She said pointing to my outfit.
I touched my blouse and looked at her
"Uh, excuse me? What is wrong with my outfit?"
I touched my blouse and looked at her
"Uh, excuse me? What is wrong with my outfit?"
"It cuts the work place, but not a dinner with one of the wealthiest families in this city."
She leaned against my desk and crossed her arms.
"Okay, here's what I'm going to do for you. What time is your dinner at?"
I realized I had no clue. "Uh...I actually am not sure."
Bella groaned
"Okay find out! I'll come over tonight, before you go to dinner with them and I'll bring a few dresses that you can pick from."
I looked at her while glaring.
"I am perfectly capable of picking out an outfit myself, thank you mom." I said turning around to face my computer again.
"Luna, you "Then prove it."
I looked at her and considered what she said
"Fine. But this is the only time you get to do this!" I said raising my index finger at her.
She squealed with excitement "Oh this is going to be so fun! and I can do your hair and makeup!"
"Remind me why you became an event planner, and not a stylist?" I raised an eyebrow at her.
"Bella! Trickson! Get back to work!" Derek yelled as he walked out of his office,
"Just text me once you find out the time of the dinner and I'll come over." she quickly hurried over to her cubical.
I gave her the thumbs up as I hurried up to Derek
"Derek, I realized I never got the time of the dinner at the Johnson's home?"
"Oh right, sorry about that. They said for you to be there at seven-thirty. If I were you I would get there a few minutes early, just to impress them." he said patting my arm and walking off.
Alright then.
