Chapter 13
Luna's POV
That next week, I got to the large fancy looking banquet hall downtown in Time Square that the Johnson's had asked me to go to.
As I walked into the room where the banquet would be held, I only saw Mrs. Johnson.
"Oh Luna, Hi!" She said walking over to me.
I shook her hand and noticed something different.
No wedding ring. I looked up at her, she looked fine and very happy.
"Come, I'll show you around and introduce you to the rest of the team." She grasped my wrist and tugged me farther into the room.
That's when I noticed West sitting at a table, a stack of papers in front of him.
He had a very light colored blue collar long sleeve shirt that was unbuttoned just slightly, white black pants, tan colored Sperry's, and a pair of black hipster glasses on.
They framed his face well, it made him look extremely attractive.
We walked passed him, his head raised slightly to look at us.
He gave me a slight smile, as did I.
What was that Luna? My subconscious asked me.
"So I would like for you to make calls to these companies and order these decorations for the banquet." she said handing me a list of phone numbers and what I needed to speak to them about.
I nodded,
"If you'd like you can go sit with West. I have to discuss some things with the chef." she said motioning to the table he was at.
She made me feel like I was a little kid again, the way she said where I could go sit.
"Alright, thank you."
I slowly approached the table, his eyes back on the stacks of papers, as he wrote something down.
"Mind if I sit here?"
His head shot up to look at me "No, go ahead." he moved some of the papers to make room for me. I gave him a quick smile.
"Did my mother tell you to sit here?"
I looked at him confused
"Uh.."
"She thinks I need people around me, to keep me from becoming a basket case." he said shaking his head and looking back down at the papers.
"I'm sorry-what?"
"Oh, nothing. Sorry ignore me."
I scrunched my eyebrows then pulled out my phone from my purse and began to make the calls.
I was only half way through the list when I hit the tenth phone call.
"Nothing, huh?" he finally said adjusting his glasses on his face.
"Here give me the list."
"No-it's okay I can ma-"
"I'm not asking for your permission." he said, slightly smirking at me. I slid the paper over to him as he called off his phone.
"Hello? Yes hi. My name is Westley, I'm the son of Penelope Johnson. Yes, the fashion designer.
Yes she would like if you would be willing to help with decorations for a banquet she is hosting this coming Friday."
I looked at him, wide eyed and shocked. He was a natural.
"Of course, yes! Great. Thank you, I'm sure she will be very appreciative.
She will have her event planner, Luna Trickson calling in the next day or two to follow up." he said before hanging up and sliding the paper back to me.
"Uh.."
"You're welcome." he said giving me a sly grin then returning to his work.
A few hours later, he shut one of the folders that was filled with papers.
"Do you want to grab lunch with me?" he said taking off his glasses and putting them in his pocket in his shirt.
I looked at him as I was a little taken aback.
"Yeah, uh yeah. sure. okay." I said babbling on.
I grabbed my purse and phone as I followed him.
"We're going to go grab some food. You want me to bring you back anything?" he asked his mom.
"No, but thank you for asking sweet heart." he nodded as we walked out and down the steps.
I didn't say anything for a few minutes.
"Could I ask you something?" he looked down at me and nodded, as he was much taller than I. Six foot something, while I was only five foot six, five foot seven or eight in heels.
"Yeah?"
"Why are you all of a sudden...tolerating me? I mean we had a pretty...tense start a few weeks ago and now you're acting as if nothing ever happened."
He rubbed his neck,
"I just feel like, maybe we should start over. Is that alright?" he asked giving me a grin.
He was cute when he did that.
"Yeah, I don't see why not."
This was weird though.
We stopped at a stop walk, I felt him staring at me.
A few blocks down and we got to the restaurant.
"Ladies first." he said as he held the door open for me.
This was NOT the same West Johnson I had met two weeks ago.
"Thank you."
"Oh Mr. Johnson, hello. How many?" the hostess who was undoubtedly pretty asked.
"Two."
"Alright, follow me right this way." we did.
I didn't understand any of this, a moment later we were seated, with menus, glasses and a large fancy looking bottle of water that was rested in the middle of the table.
"Okay, could I ask you something else?"
"Okay, could I ask you something else?"
"Go for it."
"Two weeks ago...you were threatening to fire me, and now you've invited me to lunch at a restaurant that is probably way over my price range and for what?"
He slightly laughed and poured himself some water.
"Because. I've had a change of heart." he said with another laugh.
"What caused that?"
"My asshat of a "father" " he said blurting out. My eyes grew wide in shock.
"Uh..excuse me?"
"Sorry, that was probably uncalled for."
"That's why she isn't wearing her ring?..." It all made sense now.
His bright green-gray eyes looked up at me, his face was emotionless.
"Yes."
"I'm-I'm sorry."
"Don't be. Nobody should be."
I straightened up and sat all the way back in my seat as I lowered my head to look at the menu.
It was silent, awkward.
"Have we decided on what to order?" the waiter asked, we both nodded.
"Go ahead." West said motioning to me. I order a salmon pasta dish and then he orders shortly after me. After the waiter walks off we return to silence for a brief moment.
"Thank you for agreeing to come to lunch with me. I screwed up that evening. I'm aware. Which is why I brought you here. I want a fresh start. I was kind of a dick both to you and your coworker. I apologize for that."
I listened intently.
"So if you're comfortable with it, could we start over?" he asked, his deep green-gray eyes were hard to resist as I nodded.
He smiled, his gaze was broke by our waiter bringing us our food.
"Thank you." West said.
I couldn't stop looking at him, he was truly beautiful.
His jawline was so defined, his green-gray eyes were mesmerizing, and his smile was bright.
"So tell me about yourself." He said taking a bite of his food and looking up at me.
"What's there to know? I'm not that interesting."
"I beg to differ. People always have something interesting about them."
"Yeah, and what would yours be?" I said leaning in towards the table a bit, he grinned.
"You tell me. Since you are so good at reading people." He said giving me a sly grin and a wink.
I bit the inside of my cheek to contain myself.
"Alright, I feel like you're one of those people that likes to do extravagant activities but I'm not entirely sure what those would be." I said resting my chin in my hand and grinning.
He ran his tongue on his bottom lip and tilted his head to the side,
"What would you think if I showed you?"
I sat back, surprised.
"Uh, what?" I said brushing a strand of my hair out of my face.
"Tonight?"
Sudden.
"Why not." I said shrugging, trying to look like it was no big deal.
Even though I was thrilled for some reason.
"Good." He said smiling at me as his eyes flickered up and down my face.
"Good." I said with a smile.
After a bit longer we finished our meals and went to pay.
"Will this be one check or separate?" asked the waiter
"Separ-"
"One." he said raising his hand to shut me up, I was shocked.
"No it's okay I can pa-"
"One check please." the waiter smiled
"I will have that right out for you." he said leaving.
"I can pay for myself." I said with a laugh.
"As can I, and I have no problem paying for someone else either." he said crossing his arms.
"Fine. But I owe you."
"Luna, you owe me nothing. I swear."
I pursed my lips
"Thank you." he nodded.
