Chapter 102 Underground Fight Club
POV: Luna
Two days later, Lyric pulls me aside after dinner.
"You need to see something. Understand what you're walking into if the Circle forces a fight."
"The fight club?"
"Yeah. Tonight. Underground. I'll take you."
I agree. Better to know what I'm facing than go in blind.
At midnight, Lyric leads me through a series of passages I didn't know existed.
"How do you know about all this?" I ask.
"I explore. Map things. It's what I do." She grins. "Plus, being a tech genius means I can hack into any security system and see where the cameras don't point. The faculty knows about the fight club. They just choose not to interfere."
"Why?"
"Because wolves need to fight. It's instinct. Better to let us do it in a controlled environment than have violence break out randomly across campus."
We descend deeper underground. Following tunnels that get progressively more raw. Less finished.
Finally, we reach it.
A massive chamber. Carved from stone. Lit by magical torches.
And filled with students.
Hundreds of them. Forming a circle around a fighting ring in the center.
"Welcome to the fight club," Lyric says. "The faculty pretends not to know, but everyone comes here. Students. Sometimes even teachers. It's where real disputes get settled."
I watch in fascination.
Two students are fighting in the ring. Northern pack wolves. Big. Brutal. All physical power.
They're not holding back. Claws out. Teeth bared. Full contact combat.
Blood on the stone floor. Cheers from the crowd.
"Different pack territories have different fighting styles," Lyric explains. "Northern wolves fight brutally. All strength and aggression. Eastern wolves use more magic. Spells integrated with combat. Southern wolves are strategic. Defensive. Waiting for openings."
"And Coastal wolves?"
"Adaptable. They use whatever works. No pride about it. Just effectiveness."
The Northern wolves finish their match. One submits. Both are bloody but alive.
The crowd roars approval.
"Next fight!" someone announces. "Ryder Kane versus Marcus Vane!"
I freeze. "Ryder's fighting?"
"Yeah. He comes here regularly. Works off stress. Tests himself."
Ryder enters the ring. I've never seen him like this. Shirtless. All muscle and scars.
He looks dangerous. Predatory.
Marcus is from a rival pack. Also large. Also skilled.
The fight begins.
And Ryder is brutal.
More violent than I've ever seen him in training. No restraint. No holding back.
He's not just fighting to win. He's fighting to dominate. To destroy.
Within minutes, Marcus is on the ground. Bloodied. Defeated.
Ryder stands over him. Waiting for submission.
Marcus taps out.
The crowd cheers. Money changes hands.
I'm shocked. This is a different side of Ryder. One I didn't know existed.
"He's different here," I say.
"Everyone is. This is where we can be our true selves. No teacher supervision. No Academy rules. Just wolves being wolves." Lyric gestures to the crowd. "See that section? That's where Cassandra's Circle sits. They run the betting."
I look. Sure enough, Cassandra and her friends are managing a table. Taking bets. Recording outcomes.
Claire sees me and smiles. That cold, calculating smile.
She walks over.
"Luna Eclipse. Didn't expect to see you here. Or are you scouting your future opponents?"
"Just observing."
"Smart. You'll need to understand how this works. Since you'll be fighting soon."
"I haven't accepted any challenge."
"You will. Tomorrow. During lunch. In front of everyone. I'm challenging you publicly. And you'll have to accept. Pack law."
"What if I refuse?"
"Then you're declared omega by default. Lowest rank. No respect. No authority. The Council will definitely invoke Binding Protocol for a wolf too weak to defend her status."
She's thought this through. Trapped me perfectly.
Fight and risk losing control. Refuse and lose everything.
"Who am I fighting?" I ask.
"Me. One on one. No magic. Just combat. Prove you can control your wolf in close quarters without resorting to Eclipse power."
No magic means I can't use my artifacts. Can't channel enhancement. Just raw wolf combat.
Which is exactly what I struggle with. Physical fighting without magical support.
"You've planned this carefully."
"Of course. I don't do anything carelessly." She leans closer. "Care to make a wager on yourself, Eclipse? Put some money where your mouth is?"
"I don't gamble."
"Too bad. Would have made things more interesting." She walks away. "See you tomorrow. Try not to lose sleep worrying."
After she's gone, Lyric touches my arm. "You okay?"
"No. But I will be. I have to be."
Ryder appears, cleaned up from his fight. He sees me and his expression changes.
Surprise. Then embarrassment.
"Luna. I didn't know you were here."
"I didn't know you came here."
"It's... a way to release tension. Deal with stress. I don't fight like this in training because it's not appropriate. But here, I can be myself."
"Your violent self."
"My wolf self. Without restraint." He looks at me seriously. "Is that a problem?"
"No. Just surprising. I'm seeing sides of people I didn't know existed."
"Down here, we're all more honest about what we are. Predators. Fighters. Wolves who were born to compete and dominate." He pauses. "I heard Claire challenged you."
"Tomorrow. Public. In front of everyone."
"Don't accept."
"I have to. Pack law."
"Then I'll train you. Tonight. Tomorrow morning. Every free moment. You need to be ready for close combat without magic."
"Why? You've already taught me so much."
"Because I don't want to see you hurt. Or forced into a situation where you lose control and give the Council ammunition." His voice is intense. Protective. "You're important, Luna. Not just as Eclipse. As a person. And I won't let Cassandra's Circle destroy you."
There's something in his eyes. Something more than just teacher concern.
But I don't have time to analyze it now.
"Okay. Let's train. I have less than twenty-four hours to get ready."
We leave the fight club together. Ryder already planning training strategies. Lyric taking notes on her tablet.
And behind us, I feel eyes watching.
The Circle. Observing. Planning their next move.
This is it. The trap they've been building. The situation designed to destroy me.
And tomorrow, I'll have to walk right into it.
Because I don't have any other choice.
