Chapter 103 Otherworld Connection Deepens

Chapter 103 Otherworld Connection Deepens
POV: Luna
After training with Ryder until dawn, I'm exhausted.
But I can't sleep. Too much anxiety about the challenge tomorrow.
So instead, I meditate. Focusing on my mark. On the ring. On the connection to Eclipse power.
And I slip into that partial otherworld state without meaning to.
One foot in each world. Existing between realities.
Miguel is there immediately. Like he was waiting for me.
"Luna. You're stressed. I can feel it through the mark."
"Tomorrow I have to fight. In front of everyone. Without magic. Cassandra's Circle trapped me. If I lose control, the Council binds me. If I refuse, I lose all status."
"So you need strength. Confidence. Control." He moves closer. "I can help with that."
The otherworld glows with ethereal energy tonight. Brighter than usual. More alive.
"What's different?" I ask.
"The full moon is approaching. The barrier between worlds thins during moon cycles. It's easier for me to manifest. Easier for you to channel my essence."
"Can you show me something? Help me prepare?"
"I can show you visions. Future threats. Things coming for you." He takes my hand. "But they'll be disturbing. Are you sure?"
"I need to know what I'm facing."
Miguel gestures, and the otherworld shifts.
Images appear around us. Like watching multiple screens at once.
I see rogue creatures. Dozens of them. Gathering in the forest. Being organized by someone in the shadows.
I see Cassandra's Circle performing dark rituals. Blood magic. Curses. Preparing something major.
I see the Council chambers. Councilors debating. The Binding Protocol documents on the table.
I see Cole. Training alone. His mark glowing. But his mark isn't like mine. It's darker. Shadowed.
And I see the shadow caller. Closer than ever. His form almost fully manifested.
Waiting. Planning. Ready to make his move.
"This is what's coming," Miguel says. "Multiple threats converging. All targeting you. All coordinated."
"How do I survive all of that?"
"By being stronger than any single threat. By having allies who can handle what you can't. By trusting yourself even when everyone else doubts you."
He squeezes my hand. "But most importantly, by channeling support from those who love you. Who believe in you. Who exist to help you succeed."
"You mean you."
"Me. Your grandmother. Your friends. Everyone connected to you through your mark and your pack bond. You're not alone, Luna. Even when you feel like you are."
I focus on his essence. The part of him anchored in my mark.
And I feel it. Love. Support. Absolute belief that I can handle whatever comes.
It flows through me. Strengthening. Stabilizing.
"I can channel this during the fight tomorrow," I realize. "Your emotional support translates to physical strength."
"Yes. But be careful. Drawing too much from the otherworld can trap you here. Make it hard to return to the living world."
"How much is too much?"
"You'll know. Your mark will warn you. When it starts to hurt instead of warm, that's the limit. Pull back immediately."
We practice for hours. Me channeling his essence. Him teaching me to regulate the flow. To take what I need without taking too much.
By the time I pull back to full waking consciousness, I feel ready.
Not confident. But prepared.
I can do this. I can fight Claire without magic. I can maintain control.
And if I start to lose it, I have Miguel's support to steady me.
It's not perfect. But it's better than nothing.
That morning, Nova finds me already dressed. Already preparing.
"You didn't sleep."
"Couldn't. But I trained. In the otherworld. With Miguel. I'm ready."
"Luna, about the fight—"
"I know. It's dangerous. I could lose control. Could give the Council exactly what they want. But I don't have a choice. If I refuse, I lose everything anyway."
"Then we'll be there. All of us. Supporting you. Ready to intervene if necessary."
"Thank you."
The day passes in a blur. Classes I can barely focus on. Students whispering. Everyone knows about the challenge.
About the public fight at lunch.
Eclipse versus Blackwood. Power versus politics. The matchup everyone wants to see.
At noon, the entire school gathers in the Great Hall.
Cassandra stands in the center. Confident. Prepared.
"Luna Eclipse," she calls out. "I challenge you to honorable combat. One on one. No magic. First to submit loses. Do you accept?"
Everyone watches. Waiting for my answer.
I step forward. "I accept."
The crowd erupts. Excitement. Anticipation. Fear.
We're directed to a cleared space. A makeshift ring.
Cole is there, overseeing. Making sure rules are followed.
"No lethal force," he announces. "First to submit ends the match. Break any rules, and you're disqualified."
Cassandra and I face each other.
She's smirking. Confident. She thinks she's already won.
"Ready to lose, Eclipse?"
"Ready to prove you wrong."
Cole signals. "Begin!"
Cassandra attacks immediately. Fast. Skilled. She's been training for this.
I defend. Block. Dodge. Drawing on everything Ryder taught me last night.
But she's good. Really good.
She lands hits. Not enough to seriously hurt. But enough to score points. To look dominant.
The crowd cheers. Most for Cassandra. Some for me.
I need to change tactics. Need to take control.
I reach for Miguel's essence. Channel his support.
Strength flows through me. Not magical. Emotional. But it translates to physical capability.
I counter-attack. Faster. Stronger. More confident.
Now Cassandra is defending. Struggling.
We trade blows. Neither gaining clear advantage.
My wolf wants to come forward. Wants to shift. To dominate.
But I push it down. Maintain control. Use skill instead of instinct.
Minutes pass. Both of us bleeding. Both exhausted.
But neither submitting.
"Give up!" Cassandra snarls. "You can't win!"
"Neither can you!"
We lock up. Grappling. Testing strength.
That's when I feel it. Her hand on my mark. Deliberately.
And dark magic surges through the contact.
A curse. She's casting a curse. Through physical contact. Bypassing the "no magic" rule by disguising it as touch.
Pain explodes through my mark. Through my whole body.
I scream. Fall back.
The crowd gasps.
"Foul!" Cole shouts. "Blackwood used magic!"
But the damage is done. The curse is active. Burning through me.
My wolf surges forward. Defensive. Trying to protect me.
I'm losing control. About to shift fully. About to attack without restraint.
Exactly what they wanted.
But then I feel him. Miguel. Through the mark. Through the curse.
His essence wrapping around mine. Shielding. Stabilizing.
The curse weakens. Disperses.
My wolf calms. Steps back.
I force myself to stand. To face Cassandra.
Who's shocked. She didn't expect me to recover.
"My win," I say. "You used magic. You're disqualified."
Cole confirms it. "Luna Eclipse wins by disqualification. Cassandra Blackwood violated combat rules."
The crowd is mixed. Some cheering. Some angry.
But it's over. I survived. Proved I could control myself even under curse attack.
Proved I'm not the unstable threat they claim.
As I leave the ring, I see him.
The dark figure from my visions. Watching from the shadows.
Not Miguel. Not my grandmother.
The shadow caller.
He's here. In the living world. Somehow manifested.
And he's watching. Waiting.
Closer than ever.
Ready to make his move.
