Chapter 118 Drinking
"Dad, Catherine's injuries haven't healed yet, so she can't drink alcohol. I'll get her a Sprite instead." After saying that, Manuel poured the alcohol from Catherine's glass into his own and filled her glass with Sprite.
Lloyd's eyebrows twitched slightly, but he quickly resumed his fake smile and said cheerfully, "That's something I didn't consider. Indeed, you're injured. And you got hurt so badly for my son, you should be well taken care of. But I didn't expect my son to be so attentive to you, remembering even this."
Catherine smiled awkwardly, "Mr. Green, you don't need to worry about it. I didn't even notice myself. And my injuries are almost healed now, it doesn't affect me much."
She took the glass of Sprite and clinked glasses with Lloyd before sitting back down.
Kismet glanced at Lloyd and suddenly spoke with a sarcastic tone, "Manuel knows how to care for people, unlike some who are out all day, not knowing to come home more often, seeing the Green Mansion like a hotel."
Kismet then smiled and handed Catherine some food, "Catherine, don't mind these things. Don't be like him, come to the Green Mansion more often. Manuel and I, we all welcome you. If you have any favorite dishes, just let me or the servant know. I'll have someone remember it and make your favorite dishes when you come."
Catherine didn't dare respond, she just kept her head down and ate quietly.
The atmosphere was too awkward, but Lloyd remained calm and shamelessly said, "Mom, you're exaggerating. I come back dozens of times a year, and it's all for business trips. It's not that I want to stay away, but the company matters are really troublesome. You two enjoy your peace at home, don't complain about me."
Kismet snorted coldly.
Robyn's expression was also full of discontent. Seeing that the two were still upset, Lloyd smiled and waved to a servant, who brought out several gifts and placed them in front of the two, "This time I went on a business trip to Sunrise City and brought back many gifts. Famous bags, watches, and such. I bought some for both of you, so don't be mad."
Robyn sneered and stood up, "Just some useless bags and watches, we don't need them. If you insist on giving them, give them to the woman you're keeping outside."
Catherine's head almost buried in her plate, afraid of being noticed.
Manuel hadn't told her how chaotic his family was. Now, as an outsider, she had seen all this.
It would be so awkward to interact with them later, she could hardly face them.
Lloyd was much calmer, "I don't have any woman outside, you're just overthinking and insecure. If I really had a woman outside, how could I come home so many times a year? If you don't believe me, ask my secretary if I was busy during my business trips. I'm so busy with work, I barely have time to rest, let alone keep a woman. You're wronging me."
Robyn rolled her eyes and said nothing, just ate quietly.
By the end of the meal, only Lloyd was talking, and no one else responded.
Catherine wished she could bury her head in her plate, feeling she couldn't stay a second longer. How could this family be so unreserved, discussing their private matters in front of her, not afraid she'd spread it outside?
But on second thought, it was understandable. Manuel was just as flirtatious, probably learned from his dad.
His dad likely did keep a woman outside, making Robyn unhappy, hence the sarcastic remarks at the table.
After the meal, Robyn didn't care that others hadn't finished, she put her spoon in the plate with a crisp sound and went upstairs. She didn't look at Catherine on the first floor.
After a while, Catherine saw Robyn coming downstairs with large bags of luggage, looking shocked, "Mrs. Green, where are you going?"
Robyn was in a bad mood and couldn't speak kindly to Catherine, "I'm going to stay out for a few days."
Lloyd followed behind, seeing her with so much luggage, he frowned slightly and couldn't help but say, "You don't have to do this."
Robyn sneered, "You're back, so I don't need to stay here. Let me know when you leave, and I'll come back."
Catherine looked hesitant, but Manuel seemed used to it.
Over the years, this had become a routine for the Green family. Every time Lloyd came home, Robyn would pack her bags and stay out. She would only return when Lloyd left.
Lloyd sighed, "I'll only stay for three days, you can come back after that."
Robyn responded, and before leaving, she turned to Lloyd, "Lloyd, I'm warning you, don't interfere with our son's marriage. He's doing well with his girlfriend, don't introduce those random people and ruin their relationship."
Lloyd smiled slightly, "How could I? Manuel is an adult now. Even though I'm his dad, I can't control all his decisions. Since he brought his girlfriend home, I didn't say anything, did I? But who Manuel marries in the end, that's uncertain. Marriage is unpredictable."
Robyn's face turned completely dark, "Don't think I don't know your schemes. Manuel has become a weirdo because of you. I've worked hard to correct him, don't interfere."
Hearing this, everyone present looked slightly changed. Catherine glanced at Manuel and noticed his expression was very unpleasant.
