She looks sad
She looks sad
The next morning at Damon's house.
It was past six in the morning, and Sam was getting ready for work. She parted her hair down the middle and tied it back, with her usual diamond earrings in her ears.
She stood before the full-length mirror as she wore a formal bodycon dress that stopped just beyond her knees.
"Oh shit!"
She cussed as she battled with the zipper at the back of the dress. However, her hand failed her, and she gave up with a long sigh.
"Maybe Cici might help."
She mumbled to herself and slipped on her black fluffy slippers.
Samantha opened her bedroom door, planning to go downstairs and ask the old woman for help, but a shirtless man was standing in the doorway.
"Mhhhh." She cleared her throat, averting her eyes from his chest.
"How are you?"
Damon asked seriously, with a cool smirk curled on his lips.
"I am good. Why aren't you dressed?"
She asked with her head lowered.
"I am clocking in to work a little later, but you also aren't done."
He glanced at her shoes and the shoulders that were slightly exposed since the back of the dress was unzipped.
"I am finding it hard to zip my dress, so if you could step aside and let me go ask Cici." She tried moving past him, but his chest was like a brick wall as he remained in position, blocking her way out.
She raised both hands slightly as she tried pushing him, and he moved just a little.
"Sorry to disappoint you, but Bald took Cici to the hospital for her check-up. Hence, I am here to ask what you would like for breakfast." His tone softened as their eyes met.
"My bad," she whispered while he waited for her response.
"Breakfast... I think fruits will do. Don't stress about it." She smiled faintly.
"If you say so, Miss Stone."
She nodded and held the door so she could close it and change her dress.
"You need help with that?"
He gestured to her dress, which kept falling off her left arm, exposing her shoulders.
She was a bit uncertain about letting him help, but after a couple of seconds, she gave a slight nod.
"You can turn around, then."
He said coolly, and she complied.
Damon paused at the sight of her smooth back. His fingers pulled the zipper up but stopped in the middle as he couldn't help but trail his index finger along her back, all the way to her neck. She breathed heavily, relaxing into his touch.
"Relax, I am done."
He chuckled behind her ear, his warm breath sending chills through her before she turned to face him.
"Thanks, so I guess I am taking an Uber to work today." She lowered her voice, processing that Bald was not around to take her to work.
"No, I can take you, but only because I am starving and want to buy some breakfast."
His explanation caused her to burst into laughter.
"There really was no need to explain. I know you wouldn't be too nice. I mean, we are still rivals, right?"
He tilted his head, his handsome face standing out.
"Just make sure you are done in ten minutes. I will go get dressed."
He turned on his heel and went into his bedroom, leaving her stunned and frozen on the spot.
Well, this is familiar, right? Beca use she was also left frozen a day ago at the sight of his alluring chest.
A few minutes later, Damon drove out of his manor wearing only a black T-shirt, grey sweatpants, and black Jordan sneakers.
Sam sat back casually and stared out the passenger window, avoiding the temptation to glance at him until they arrived at her destination.
Damon parked his car right at the entrance of Sam's workplace. A faint smirk crossed his face as heads turned to check him out through the large windows of the reception. Sam wanted to say goodbye, but when she noticed this, she grew flustered beside him.
"I think I will go. Thanks for the ride."
She quickly hopped out of the car and rushed inside the studio.
"Sam, is that Damon Bridge?"
One of her female colleagues came forward, with the others looking at her with raised eyebrows.
"Yes, he is, but guys, please don't go peeking through the windows. What will people think of us?"
She placed a hand over her face.
"Sorry, Sam, but we were curious. Wait, have you broken up with Aaron?"
The same short-haired girl asked, her voice loud enough for the others to hear.
"That is none of your business. Where is Sean?"
Her features hardened, and they all stayed quiet, letting her search for herself.
Meanwhile, Roselyn was at Smith Manor with her family, all seated in the living room as they waited for Bonnie and David to return and share their vacation stories.
Paul was seated beside his wife while Roselyn sat on top of the thick pillow between Paul's legs, with Violet next to her, resting her back against Sarah's feet.
Paul glanced at his wristwatch and shook his head.
"They will not be here any moment. There are still three hours left."
Gavin and Goodness sighed but continued watching television with their grandchildren.
Paul and Sarah kept stealing glances at each other, but Roselyn was on her phone, still caught up in a funny conversation with her niece, who couldn't leave her side.
Roselyn received a WhatsApp text from an unknown number and opened it after seeing that it was a photo.
She gaped at the screen.
Hey Mrs Foster, if she is with your brother in law. Don't you think she might go back to her lover? Tick tock!!
Her eyes lingered on the photo showing Liam and Michelle leaving a famous hotel in Los Angeles.
If she had received this photo of her husband with Michelle, how many more photos were still to be sent?
Paul couldn't help but curiously glance at her screen, and his eyes darkened at what he saw. Sarah also noticed the change in his mood but kept a straight face to avoid stressing her in-laws.
"You okay?"
Paul gently brushed his sister's shoulder, and Roselyn turned her head toward him and gave a light nod, immediately locking her screen.
She silently prayed he hadn't seen anything. Otherwise, things might get a little extreme if he got involved.
"Yeah, I think I hear Christopher crying. I'll go check."
She rose from the floor and rushed upstairs.
"Paul, what did you do to her? She looks sad."
Goodness asked with a confused expression.
"No, I didn't do anything this time. I promise."
He forced a smile when all eyes turned to him.
"I'll check on Rose."
Sarah wanted to go, but Paul placed a hand on her thigh and shook his head to stop her.
Judging by Roselyn's sudden change in mood and what she had just seen, he thought she might need some space alone without all of them asking too many questions.
However Roselyn tried to call the numbers upstairs but the phone just rang without anyone picking it up.
