Chapter 141: The Final Check-Up

Chapter 141: The Final Check-Up
Sophia’s POV

I had spent months recovering.

Months of physical therapy, sleepless nights, frustration, pain.

Months of learning my body all over again.

And fuck—

I had made it.

I was walking on my own.

I was breathing without pain.

I was moving without hesitation.

And Travis?

Travis had been there for every second of it.

Every goddamn second.

And fuck—

If I didn’t know better, I’d think he deserved a medal for self-control.

Because one look at the man told me everything I needed to know—

He had been waiting for this appointment just as much as I had.

Maybe even more.

"You nervous, sweetheart?" Travis asked, his hand resting on my thigh as we sat in the waiting room.

"I’ll be fine."

"I know," he smirked, leaning closer. "I’m just wondering how soon we can celebrate."

I rolled my eyes, smacking his arm. "You’re impossible."

"I’ve been very patient, Sophia."

"I’m aware."

"Painfully patient."

"Do you want a cookie?"

"I’d rather have you."

My cheeks flushed, and fuck—

I knew that look.

The one that promised trouble the second we got out of here.

And maybe?

Maybe I was looking forward to it just as much as he was.

The doctor’s final assessment was exactly what I had hoped for.

My ribs? Fully healed.

My leg? Still weaker than before but strong enough to handle normal movement.

My endurance? Not perfect but getting there.

And most importantly?

No more restrictions.

I had made it to the other side.

I had won.

I was free.

And Travis?

Travis had exactly one thing on his mind.

"So," he drawled, leaning forward in his chair, "sex? We’re good? Everything’s back in working order?"

I nearly choked on my own spit.

The doctor?

Completely unfazed.

"Yes, Mr. Cole, sex is safe."

Travis grinned, looking entirely too pleased with himself. "Perfect. We can start making babies now."

My entire brain short-circuited.

"What?"

"What?" he echoed innocently, his smirk widening.

I blinked, my mouth opening, then closing, then opening again.

Because holy fuck—

Did he just—

Did Travis Cole just—

What the actual fuck?

The doctor stood, clearly sensing that he needed to get the hell out of this conversation. "Well, I’ll leave you two to discuss that."

I barely registered him leaving the room.

Because I was still trying to process what Travis had just said.

"You—" I finally managed, my voice half an octave higher than usual. "You want kids?"

"With you?" He tilted his head, completely unbothered. "Obviously."

My brain?

Broken.

Shattered.

Because fuck—

I hadn’t thought that far ahead yet.

I was still getting used to the idea of marriage.

Still wrapping my head around the fact that I had let someone in this much, that I had given my heart away so completely.

And now?

Now he was talking about kids?

"Travis," I exhaled, running a hand through my hair. "That’s—"

"Relax, sweetheart," he grinned, standing up and pulling me against him. "I’m not saying we have to do it right now."

"You literally just said we should start making babies."

"I meant eventually."

"That’s not what it sounded like."

"You’re cute when you panic."

"Travis."

"Sweetheart."

I scowled, but fuck—

I couldn’t stop the warmth blooming in my chest.

Because he wasn’t fucking around.

He meant it.

He wanted forever.

And fuck—

Maybe I did too.

"Let’s just get through the wedding first," I muttered, shaking my head.

Travis chuckled, pressing a slow, lazy kiss to my temple. "Fine. But don’t think I won’t bring this up again."

I rolled my eyes, but deep down?

The thought didn’t scare me as much as it should have.

Because if there was anyone in the world I could imagine building a life with—

It was Travis fucking Cole.
