Chapter 191 That Doesn't Sound Like A Love Confession To Me.
SANCIA

I quickly glanced back at Antonio and the man carrying Dario. They were both focused on escape now that Lorenzo was back, so they weren't paying much attention to me, though Antonio's hold on me was nothing short of vise-like.

I frowned when I realized Antonio was leading me towards the back door through the staff quarters. The irony was, I was the one who showed him this way back when I helped him escape Lorenzo.

Without a second of hesitation, I reached into my panties and yanked the other gun I'd tucked inside it.

I took aim and fired, shooting the man holding Dario before I turned it on Antonio while I walked backward towards Dario.

He'd fallen with the guard; fortunately, the man hadn't landed on him. I grabbed him and pushed him against the wall, all while keeping my eyes on him.

“Sancia…” I fired, the bullet catching him on the sides of his stomach.

“Don't fucking move,” I warned. “Throw your guns away now, before I blow your brains out. He did as I said.

“What are you going to do? Kill me?” he snarled, clutching his side.

“Why the hell not? You deserve worse for what you did to Papa.”

He groaned. “If you kill me, your mother and Isabella will die.”

My heart hammered at the thought of Mama dying, and I hesitated. Antonio took a step forward; I took one back. One hand is on Dario, who has quieted down, though he's still panting and trembling.

It takes everything in me not to hug and assure him that everything is okay, that he's safe. But doing so means risking our lives.

The screaming and gunfire have lessened; I just need to stall until Lorenzo arrives.

“I'm sure Sergio has already found them.”

He shakes his head. “He couldn't have. I've already left instructions in case anything happens to me.”

He shrugged. “Insurance.”

Anger exploded inside me at his arrogance. It terrifies me knowing he's probably telling the truth and Mama's life is in danger.

I know letting him go now is the worst thing I could do. So I pulled the trigger again, and again this time it went straight through both his legs.

Antonio screams in agony as his legs give out under him.

“You fucking bitch, I'm going to make you pay.”

I snickered. “That doesn't sound like a love confession to me.”

“I loved you, you bitch. But you don't fucking see it, and now you intend to take my life? I'm going to fucking kill you for betraying me.”

I aimed for his head, done with his bullshit. I just want it to be over so I can carry Dario away from all this carnage. I pulled the trigger; the gun went click, click. Fucking hell. Antonio chuckled smugly.

“You can't kill me. It's not my time yet,” he taunted, groaning.

I walked to where he was sprawled on the ground, groaning and moaning in pain, his blood pooling on the floor, and stepped on one leg right where I shot him.

“Does it hurt? Do you feel pain?” I gritted my teeth, full of rage. “Trust me, this is nothing compared to what I have in store for you. You're going to wish you never met me by the time I'm done with you. I'm going to make you feel every pain Papa experienced, stab you with the same sword over and over…”

“Momma…” Dario screamed, my heart slamming against my ribcage as I whirled and saw him in Vince's hand, suspended in the air with a gun pointed at his head.

Just as a pair of footsteps stopped behind me, I didn't have to turn to know it was him. Diavolo.

“Drop your guns and put your hands up where I can see them,” Vince said in a serious voice before he started cackling.

“I've always wanted to try saying that, just like in the movies, fucking pussies.” He chuckled again.

“Do it,” he yelled, spittle flying. Lorenzo dropped both his guns on the ground.

“Vincent, your fight is with me; let my son go. He's just a child,” Lorenzo growled. I turned to look at him, and my heart broke. He had blood all over him and was limping.

“You said that as though I care; I don't. If we don't kill this little bastard now, he'll only grow up and become a nuisance just like you.”

“No!” I blurted, shaking my head.

“Please, don't. I'll do whatever you want. Just let him go,” I choked, tears streaming down my face.

“Antonio, you decided. Should I let him go?” Vince said, kicking Antonio's gun, which was on the floor, toward him. “Looks like she did you real bad, the heartless bitch.” He winked at me. “Just my kinda bitch.”

“I'm killing the little bastard,” Antonio spat, cocking the gun.

“No, no, please don't,” I sobbed, kneeling before him. “Please, Antonio, tell him to let him go, and I swear I'll do whatever you want; I'll go with you without a fight.”

His face twisted in a cruel smirk. “Fine, I'll give you a chance. Choose one. Lorenzo's life or Dario’s,” Antonio snarled.

“Let him go, Antonio, and I will come with you. This doesn't have to be ugly.”

“This is all your fault. You forced my hand. So fucking choose. Shoot him, or I'll fucking blow Dario’s brains out.” He shoved the gun in my hands.

“Don't do anything stupid, Vince. If she blinks the wrong way, kill the bastard.”

A sob ripped from my mouth as my hands shook violently even as they tightened around the gun.

“Sancia, look at me,” Lorenzo ordered, his voice calm.

I looked at him, tears blurring my vision.
“Don't be scared. You can do it. I know you can do it. Right here.”

He nodded, pointing to his chest.

“Do it, or I'll blow little Dario’s brain out—your husband's or son's life. You have three seconds before he's gone,” Vince shouted.

My breath seized in my lungs as Antonio began to count.

Three seconds.

My eyes fluttered closed for a second before I quickly opened them.

Two seconds.

I raised the gun and fired.

Lorenzo jerked as the bullet struck his shoulder. A broken sob escaped me. Before Antonio could realize what I was doing, I spun and fired the second shot straight through his chest.

Antonio's eyes widened. Then another gunshot exploded behind me.

I whirled around just in time to see Vince's grip on Dario going slack. Lorenzo caught Dario before he hit the floor with one hand, blood soaking through his shirt, as he lowered the gun in his hand.

But he wasn't done. He raised it again and fired. The bullet struck Antonio squarely between the eyebrows. Antonio's head snapped back before his body collapsed to the floor.

Dario was now tucked safely in Lorenzo’s arms as he wailed and cried. I hurried and crushed Dario to me, crying with relief, tears streaking down my face.

I thought Antonio was going to kill him.
I squeezed Dario tighter against my chest, my whole body trembling.

Then my eyes met Lorenzo's. Terror surged through me so thickly it stole my breath. I put Dario down just as Luca came running.

“No.” I rushed to Lorenzo's side and cradled his head in my hands. His face had gone pale, blood soaking through his shirt.

“Luca, take Dario to Zetta, and call the doctor now,” I ordered.

“It's ironic how this is where we started, right?” he gasped, clutching his bloodied chest.

“Why are you holding your chest?” I croaked. “I tried to shoot your shoulder.”

I deliberately shot him there. I knew the shoulder would cause the least amount of damage.

“I was already shot earlier,” he said, groaning.

My heart stopped. “What?” I stared at him in disbelief. “Then why did you make me shoot you again?” I sobbed, tears blurring my eyes.

“Shhh, Mia Tigre, you'd have done it anyway for Dario.”

He lifted his hand, his bloody thumb wiping away one of my tears even as more spilled down my cheeks.

“I don't blame you; I love you for your strength. If death wears your face a thousand times, I will embrace it a thousand times over, Sancia.” I hugged him tightly and sobbed even harder.

He groaned. “I've told you before. My life is only yours to take. I've already given you everything that I am—the bad and the very ugly.”

“No. No.” I shook my head frantically, sobbing. “Please.”

“Enzo, don't go. Please. I love you.”

“Shhh.”

He silenced me with the word, his eyes softening despite the pain twisting across his face.

“Have you realized that you call me Enzo when you're emotional?”

“What?” I asked, confused.

A faint grin tugged at his lips, his dimples dipping into his cheeks. “You call me Enzo when you're coming.”

“Shut up.”

His face scrunched in pain as another wave of blood soaked through his shirt around the gunshot wound.

“No, no. Don't shut up. Please stay with me.”

I burst into tears. “You promised me a date, Enzo. You still haven't kept your promise, you liar,” I cried, pressing my trembling hands against his chest as though I could somehow keep him from bleeding out. “You can't go back on your word. You hear me?”

My voice broke. “If you do, this time I won't forgive you.”

“You will…” he whispered, then his head lolled, and his eyes rolled back in his head.

I screamed, the sound echoing through the whole house.
