Chapter 192 I Know You Killed Orazio
Chapter 192 I Know You Killed Orazio
SANCIA
One Week Later
“Sancia, tell your brother I'm okay. I'm already feeling so much better; I'm tired of just lying down here,” Mama complains, not for the first time.
I smiled as I set up the hospital food provided for her, seeing as she's on a strict healthy diet.
“I'm not the one holding you back; the doctor didn't think you're ready to go home just yet, Mama,” Sergio replied, twisting the cap of a bottle of water he picked from the bedside table and taking a sip.
It was late at night, and he'd just taken an hour, like every night, from his busy schedule to check on Mama.
A week ago, Sergio and Leonardo had gone after Antonio after he kidnapped Mama. Although they'd lost him, they didn't give up and kept searching. They eventually found Mama, Isabella, and some men on an old airstrip.
Antonio wasn't kidding when he said he had an airplane waiting. Sergio had killed the men and saved Mama. Isabella had tried to run in a car and had ended up getting into a car accident that exploded; she'd survived, but she wasn't unscathed.
Her face had taken the brunt of the accident, and I don't think even plastic surgery could do much about it.
As for Lorenzo, when we arrived at the hospital, he'd bled a lot. Fortunately, after his surgery, the doctor had finally told us that he was out of danger and that none of his wounds were life-threatening to begin with; he was lucky, and all the gunshots had missed his vital organs.
I'd just left his room when Luca arrived with Savio, who I'm so happy had survived. And I decided to check on Mama.
Neither Mama nor I had gone to see Isabella, who was also admitted to this same hospital like Lorenzo and Mama.
And our mother had no intention of seeing Isabella ever again.
I was too busy fussing over my husband and son to bother about someone like her. But I wanted to check on her one final time now that Sergio had made his decision about her.
I checked on Lorenzo and saw he was still talking with Luca and Savio. My baby is with Zetta and Giulia at the safe house we went to with Lorenzo the other day.
I take a step inside the room. Isabella was leaning over her windowsill, looking out the window, dressed in a beautiful white dress, graceful as always. From the looks of it, she had just changed because her hospital clothes lay haphazardly on the bed.
“Going somewhere?” I asked as he walked deeper into the room.
“To what do I owe this visit, my dear sister? Did Sergio finally decide my punishment?” she mocked, ignoring my first question.
“Yes, you’ll be whipped, then banished from the familiar for your crimes,” I replied, standing beside her, my eyes staring at the hospital grounds below. “I’m here to say goodbye. After today, we’ll never see each other ever again.”
She finally turned and met my eyes. Isabella looked utterly wrecked, and not even her pretty dress could hide that fact. The injury on her face was still bandaged.
“There’s just one thing I need you to help me understand.” My voice dropped as I tried not to let my anger take over. “Why, Isabella? You knew Antonio was using you. So why did you keep helping him even after he killed Papa? How could you do such a thing? How could you sleep with him knowing he killed our father?”
“Don’t act all holier-than-thou with me, Sancia,” Isabella sneered. “You’re no better than me.”
“I never said I was,” I replied.
“You never have to, but you feel it, don’t you? That you were better than me. God knows Papa, and everyone never missed the chance to make me look invisible,” she spat. “You wanted to know why, because I wanted to.”
“I wanted Papa to feel how bad it is to want something you’ll never get.”
“What are you talking about, Isabella?” I asked, feeling a deep dread curl in the middle of my stomach.
“You see, I finally understood why Papa never loved me, why I’m always the invisible and disposable daughter in his eyes; it’s because he felt guilty knowing what he did.”
Isabella was talking crazy, unraveling in a way I’d never seen; she was like a whole other person, not the quiet, gentle sister I knew.
“He killed my real father and treated me like I never existed.”
Her words hit me in the gut, because it’s the last thing I expected to hear.
“Where did you hear such nonsense, Isabella?” I asked. “Of course Papa is your father.”
“No, he wasn’t. Your father, Carmello, killed my father when Mama was pregnant with me, then he forced Mama to marry him. He gave me his name but never really treated me as his own,” she said with so much hate and bitterness behind it.
“Antonio lied to you, Isabella,” I said. “He’s a liar, a manipulator, and a murderer. And you stupidly believe him and ruin your life.”
“It wasn’t a lie,” she shouted. “And Antonio didn’t manipulate me. I did everything willingly.”
“My god Isabella, how could you? How could you do such horrible things? How could you betray Papa? He might not be the loving, caring father you wanted, but he raised you, and to the best of my knowledge, he never abused you. Did you know that he was already dying? That he had cancer?”
She blinked. “He had cancer?” she whispered, and then she started laughing so hard; I thought she was crazy. “Must be karma; after everything he did in the world, God finally punished him.”
“And Lorenzo? I never understood why you shot him; I thought you loved him?”
Her eyes flared with something like loathing. “I did. But he’d rather be with someone who hates him than me. Now we’ll both lose him forever.”
Isabella’s eyes suddenly gleamed with a crazy light. “I’ve always wanted to ask you, but it wasn’t the right time; now I can.” I frowned as she leaned closer. “How did it feel, Sancia? Watching Lorenzo fall down the cliff? How does it feel when the man you love dies?”
“What happened to you, Isabella? When did you become this bloodthirsty and vindictive woman?”
She snickered and took a step back. “I’ve always been this way. You were just too blind to see it.”
She sighed. “And you’re the last person who should call me bloodthirsty when your hands are soaked with blood.”
“What are you talking about?” I asked, although I could already guess what she was going to say.
“Oh, stop fucking pretending, Sancia. I know you killed Orazio.”
My heart dropped to my stomach.
