Chapter 28 Why he married her
“How long will you hold onto my man? You still refuse to let go, right? Don’t blame me for this.” Tessa said to Lilac.
“You are crazy,” Lilac said and turned to leave, only to hear a dramatic scream behind her.
She turned to find Tessa on the floor, looking to be in pain.
The room froze as eyes turned to see Tessa on the floor and Lilac looking down at her. Tessa immediately understood that she was being framed.
Eric ran over quickly to Tessa’s side. The sight of him helping her up irritated Lilac.
“Why did you touch her?!” Eric scolded Lilac. His words stung. This was her husband, but it was natural for him to defend his mistress.
“I didn’t…” Lilac began to defend herself.
“Even if you were raised by that kind of mother, you are now in our family. Know your place!” Lilac heard one of aunt sister-in-laws say, and anger rushed to her head.
How dare they insult her mother? Just because they were the great hunter family? Her mother was her reverse scale.
“Even if your entire family sees me as nothing, there is no need to parade his mistress around,” Lilac said, looking around at Eric’s family.
They only raised a brow at her as though they were looking at a clown.
“What kind of family encourages this nonsense?” Lilac asked, triggering the small crowd.
“What nonsense are you sprouting? Eric and Tessa have been friends since childhood." Daniella, Eric’s aunt, scolded.
“Do you need to be so insecure? Besides, we all know how you came into the family,” Eric’s cousin said, and Lilac looked to Eric but only met his cold eyes. Her blood runs cold at this.
“Apologize!” Eric said, and Lilac paused. She could not believe her ears.
“What did you say?” she asked.
“Apologize!” he repeated.
“Eric,” his mother, Andrea, scolded him, but Eric kept firm.
Lilac turned around to leave, but Eric would not let her. The family dinner had ground to a halt. Lilac felt like a spectacle when Eric’s words left his mouth.
“Do not forget, I know where your mother is,” he said, and Lilac froze in place. She turned around and looked at him in utter horror.
Lilac could see Tessa smirk at her. She silence in the room felt like mockery to her. No one came to her defense.
“Go home and wait for me,” he said coldly, and Lilac drew all her strength to hold back tears.
It was not the first time they had thrown her out of the family dinner. But this time, it hurt more than ever.
She walked out and took a taxi home. When she got home, she dismissed the staff to think quietly.
For some reason, she put on the TV. A newscaster was talking about Tessa waking up from her coma.
“Tessa Harold the sister of the Harold family heir, Michael Harold who had been in a coma was spotted at the Balck family ball. Where she was escorted by Eric Black..." The news continued as Lilac Zone out.
These words, Lilac had heard it before. The entire world thought of her husband as Tessa’s boyfriend. No one in the Black family, including Eric, has ever clarified this.
Lilac felt stupid.
Her mind went back to the words Tessa had said to her. How long did she intend to hold on to Eric? She knew he did not love her.
Tiredly, she got up and cooked dinner. Eric returned just as she set the table.
Without a word, he slid a document in front of her. It was a divorce document.
"Now I have access to the Newman Key, I do not need you anymore," he said and Lilac woke up covered in sweat. She looked around to find that she was back in her room.
Lilac ran a hand through her hair in frustration as she processed what she just saw.
She was sure that was a memory of her past life. A time when Tessa Harold must have woke from her coma.
Lilac's blood boiled in rage. She could not understand why her past self was so in love with this man?
He kept her by his side and never agreed to the divorce because of what he wanted. No matter how angry she was, Lilac was glad that she finally gotten something useful. The Newman Key. She had never heard of this, but this is the reason Eric stayed married to her.
And most importantly, she recalled the news on TV. The newscaster had said, 'Tessa Harold, sister to Micheal Harold,' But they used the photo of Micheal Leslie, June's husband.
How was this possible? How did Micheal Leslie become heir to the Harold family?
The next moment, there was a knock on her door. Lilac finally noticed that it was morning. She had not noticed when she and fallen asleep.
She recalled that Eric was still in. The house and immediately got up, walking over and opening the door.
"You are still here," she said with a frown.
"Pretending I am not, won't make me disappear," Eric answered.
"What do you want?" She asked and he shrugged.
"Except to tell you breakfast is ready? Well, we need to talk, so it is best you stop hiding," he said and turned away.
Lilac stood by the door for a second before she walked back into her room to freshen up. Only when she was done and had changed into something new, did she walk out of her room and join him on the dinning table.
On the table, lots of food were laid out. She was sure he did not cook anything, so he must have had his staff bring it. The thought of having his men in her home offended her.
"Who cooked?" She asked.
"Obviously, not me," he answered.
"You did not have your staff in my house, did you?" She asked dangerously. Eric paused and looked up at her.
"You don't think my staff are up to this task?" She asked.
"Did you let your men into my house?" She asked, emphasizing that this was her home. Eric was taken aback by her reaction.
"No. I ordered in. Was not sure what you liked, so inah the restaurant on the other side of the street send a little of everything," he answered. Only then, did Lilac sit down.
"You can't live here. There is no law that says we must live together. I want you out of my house today," Lilac said. Eric had a feeling she was even more irritable than yesterday. Her eyes were even colde than before. What could have possibly happened in between sleeping and waking?
"Well, that is not the issue, this is..." He said, deflecting on answering and placing his phone on the dinning table before sliding it over to her.
Lilac looked at the screen to find it was a video of her fighting on the boat deck and froze.
"Please explain, dear wife," Eric said.
