Chapter 27 What is she hiding?
Eric raised a brow at her reaction.
"Why do you sound so shocked? I never agreed to a divorce," he said, settling into the sofa.
"Maybe you are just angry since I have never paid attention to you. That is why you talk about divorce so easily," he said, "So, I should spend more time with you."
Lilac's face turned dangerously dark.
"Eric, don't think I have a good temper," she said.
"You have never shown any sign of a good temper," he answered, then paused to think, "Well, you used to have one, now you are angry at everything I say."
Lilac stared at him for a moment, then got up and walked away. She was so angry, she wanted to jump him and was sure she would loose if she dared to fight him. Walking away was the only option. She marched into her room and slammed the door shut.
Eric watched her leave, then pulled out his phone and dialed his brother, Harris.
"Hey, you and Lilac should come around tomorrow. It looks like Grandpa won't make it," Harris said, "have you found out how they won the bid?" Harris asked and Eric stared towards the door Lilac had slammed shut.
"I am working on it. But I have confirmed that the mayor is no longer ron our side so, we might as well proceed without him," Eric said.
"Alright, I will let Daniel know," Harris answered and ended the call.
Eric's eyes stayed on Lila's door. He recalled back on the ship, when she had suddenly stared behaving out of character, he realized she was smarter than she looked. But could someone change that easily? And there is a limit to how smart a person can be. Besides, this did not explain how she could have known the bid number. He frowned and took out his phone again and dialed his secretary, Jim.
"Sir?" Jim answered the call after a few rings.
"Get me the security footages from the ship from the last night we were there. Send it to me," Eric instructed. He recalled on the ship, she must have had an altercation with someone who strangled her. Or else she would not have had those bruises. He had wanted to check it out when he was less busy and had slowly forgotten.
Soon, Eric received a footage on his phone. He opened it and scrolled for a while, following all of Lilac's movements around the ship.
She paused when he realized she had hidden and listened to his conversation with Harris. He tried to recall if he had said anything pertaining to the bid that she could have used. But he was sure he had said nothing of consequence.
Frowning, he continued to speed through the video. He watched Lilac go to the boat deck and dismiss the workers.
Eric wondered what she wanted to do. He thought she intended to plant things on the boat, but the opposite was the case. She took crates off the boat and threw into the ocean.
Eric sat up as he watched with fascination. The next moment, he watched a staff return and try to kill her. He watched her struggle before tipping the man into the ocean too. She finished throwing all the crates in before she left. Then she made her way back to her room and left the room a few minutes later, with panicked bags.
Eric put down his phone and stared out the window. After a while, he stared at the door to Lilac's room.
His mind full of questions. "What was she hiding?"
Lilac was back in her room and crawled into bed easily. Soon, she found herself in a dream.
She was in a ballroom sometime in her past life.
Lilac’s face fell when she saw her husband strolling into that ball room with another woman on his arm.
It was rose again. Her heart turned cold, but she felt hot from all the eyes looking at her, waiting to enjoy her shame.
Everyone knew her husband, Eric hated her. Holding back her anger, she walked up to the lounge room to escape from the watching eyes.
She had not even rested a few minutes when she heard someone walk in. She opened her eyes to find a man in a dark suit. The room was too dark for her to tell what he looked like. She only realized he was ridiculously tall.
Lilac got up to leave but as she passed by him, she tripped and fell into him.
“Sorry,” she hurriedly apologized and straightened up.
“Have some self respect,” the man said and Lilac froze.
“What did you say?” she asked.
“Throw her out,” she heard him say and men she had not realized were there walked out from the shadows.
“What are you doing? You walked in here and I wanted to leave it for you, but you are throwing me out?” she asked.
“There is no need to throw yourself on the master, leave or I will throw you out,” one of the men who seemed to be security said.
“Is he a celebrity that feels every woman wants to jump him? You don’t feel ashamed when you walk around like that? You are in my husband’s ball, but have no respect?” she said and the men paused.
“So, this is Mrs…” one of the men started to say, but the taller man in question only sat and stared at her without a word.
Before one of the guards could finish, Lilac held up a hand.
“Enjoy the ball,” she said and walked out.
She had no even stepped out when she found herself face to face with Tessa, the woman her husband came to the ball with.
“Lilac! I was wondering where you were, I just came back!” Tessa said in a sickeningly sweet voice that made Lilac’s skin crawl. She held back a curse when she saw this woman.
“Step out of the way,” Lilac said. She had no energy for this and wanted to leave. She had already been embarrassed to this point, there was no need to keep staying.
“Why are you so hostile? I only came to greet you. I know Eric had left abroad for work before the ink on your marriage certificate was dry, but I still need to greet you as my sister in law,” Tessa said.
“Ahh…sister in law. I did not know Eric had another sister. Which mother gave birth to you?” Lilac asked and roses face distorted. It was not unknown that she was in illegitimate child. Now, it felt like Lilac was throwing it in her face.
Lilac made to walk in another direction, but Tessa stepped forward and blocked her path.
