Chapter 92 More To Know
Kristen's POV
A few hours later.
"Would you like to go out for a stroll? They brought in a wheelchair for you." Ben says the moment he makes his way into my room, pushing the wheelchair forward to my side. "You've been in here for days, and I can tell you're getting bored." He adds, giving me that concerned look with those beautiful blue eyes, that for a moment I say nothing but choose to get lost in them.
"Or I can wheel you along the way if you don't wish to go out." He scratches the back of his head awkwardly as he looks at me.
"I don't know, Ben. Why didn't you tell me I slept with this Calhoun who is my mother's husband, and I am also mated to him?" I ask him, shooting him a disappointed look. Thankfully I can turn my neck even though the rest of my body is paralyzed. Except for the fact that the pains don't seem to go away. The pains
While Ben stares at me, with his lips thinned together.
"Who told you that?" He asks after some time, and I can feel my nostrils flare.
"It doesn't matter. I want to know why you kept it away from me. Why do you always seem agitated when I mention the name, Calhoun?" I would've folded my arms across my chest if I could move them.
"You seem different from the person I knew before the accident," Ben says with a low chuckle. "Somewhat feisty. The Kristen I know wasn't this aggressive. Except at my mom's post funeral reception when you fought with my ex-girlfriend and almost killed her."
I am taken aback upon hearing this.
It might be that he's just bluffing.
"You don't know anything about me. According to Janette, I wasn't even close to you. I think you should leave right now. You're upsetting me even more." I tell him, shooting him a flat look.
"But you haven't eaten, Kristen." He persists, then gulps with sadness filling his green eyes.
"I'm not hungry. Janette can bring me food. She doesn't upset me as much as you." I blurt out, then suddenly wish I hadn't.
Because he ticks his jaw and his eyes which were filled with sadness earlier, replace themselves with anger.
"Okay, fine. Calhoun is your mate and your mother's husband and a whole fucking lot happened in the past two months. Calhoun is the Alpha of the Greyhound pack and he put a ring on your finger. But he doesn't love you." Ben finishes out of breath, with his hand clutching hard on the wheelchair.
While I stare at him open-mouthed because my brain is trying to properly align his words which is rather shocking to me.
"You competed with your mother and ruined her marriage by sleeping with him," He adds, then casts his head down as if he's sad over something.
"And who are you?" I ask, trying so hard not to picture this Calhoun and fight against the urge to let my mind linger on the part where Ben said Calhoun doesn't have feelings for me. It's understandable because it's my mom he married while I was just his mate whom he was having a affair with.
"I am Ben, the next Alpha in line of the pack. I was supposed to marry you and make you my Luna, but Calhoun stood in the way and manipulated you into falling for you. He even engaged you to shoo me away." He raises his head to look at me. "Your wolf is such a bitch though, and she's one weak-ass wolf. Hiding in there and not trying to communicate with you." He adds.
"That's because she's lost connection with it. The venom still has this great effect on her." Someone speaks up.
I stare ahead of me, and I see Bruce looking as good as ever.
"He's not avoiding you. He was away but he just returned today. And he's been told you've awoken but he's having a hard time coming here because he cannot face you," Bruce leaves the door and makes his way toward me and sits on the edge of my bed, without even acknowledging the presence of Ben who is staring at him with a clenched jaw.
"I'd like to see him," I say after a gulp.
"You will see him," Bruce tells me with his lips curving into a smirk
as if he's having dirty thoughts or something.
"Let's help you into the wheelchair, so you can be wheeled out of the room for some time," Ben suggests.
"She hasn't eaten," Ben informs Bruce, with his eyes on me.
"She will eat." Bruce answers almost immediately, "And get going already. You literally spend every day here. Don't you have anything else to do?"
"I have every right to be here, she's not Calhoun's wife." Ben retorts.
"Are you sure about this?" Bruce asks me.
And I give him a firm nod.
We're in front of Alpha Calhoun's company, a company of about twenty-one-story buildings.
Bruce agreed to bring me here after much persuasion from me because I was dying to see Calhoun.
Thankfully he didn't let Ben come with us, he told Ben to stay back because he always provoked Calhoun and it might stir up a fight this time since Calhoun was mad at Ben for still visiting me after he was warned to stay away.
More anticipation kicks inside of me to see this Calhoun and what he's like.
"This place looks big." I blurt out as Bruce wheels me inside, and he replies to me with a low scoff.
"And it all belongs to your mate, fascinating isn't it?"
People are stopping to look at us and it seems they recognize who I am because whispers are going around.
And Bruce carries on talking as if they don't exist. "Before the whole kidnap thing, you burst in here to meet Calhoun, and he had all of his men dismissed for your sake. Including me."
"I affected him that much?" I ask, fighting so hard to not let the stares from people affect me.
Thankfully I am not wearing the hospital dress but a pink strapless gown. But my feet are bare.
"A whole lot has happened, Kristen. And I'd rather not tell you. You should stay like this until the venom is being sucked out of your
system," Bruce says.
"Wait!" I almost yell and this stops him from wheeling me forward.
"Don't keep things away from me. Just tell me more, please." I implore, although I can't raise my head to look at him because my neck is stiff, but I try, and it hurts so bad.
Bruce leaves my back and then comes to stand in front of me. Then he hunks down to my height, making gaps to leave the mouths of the people who are dressed in official clothing. They are looking at us as if waiting for us to share a kiss.
I quickly look away from them to Bruce in front of me, because I am starting to feel embarrassed.
"You Kristen, is one of the bravest girls I've ever seen. You risked your life to save Ben's little brother. Jumped into the sea and didn't mind that you sustained injuries through the boat railings. You swam over a mile away to save this boy who was tied to a half log of wood. And you didn't let go even when you were experiencing near drowning. I saw this with Calhoun, and he said you were so fucking brave." Bruce looks at me with so much admiration. "You didn't really want to hurt your mom. I misjudged you in thebeginning but later I came to actualize the fact that Calhoun was deeply in love with you. He rejected you at first and turned into a changed man until he marked you to be his for the second time." And I am speechless because I cannot believe he did all of that. Why did Maddy and Sapphire skip these parts? Ben told me Calhoundoesn't love me and Bruce is saying the opposite.
Who should I even believe?
"Afterward you were kidnapped by Jack the Rogue Psycho and he tortured you for a few days until we found you and rescued you along with two hundred women he's kidnapped over the years," Bruce adds. I gulp, still dumbstruck from all that I just heard.
And the look on Bruce's face is as if there's more he wants to let out, but something is holding him back.
"What else are you keeping from me?" I ask when I find my voice.
People are still looking at us, but I don't care at this moment. I want to know more things.
"I'm afraid I cannot go any further," Bruce responds, then he stands at his full height, straightens his suit jacket, and goes to stand at my
back again.
And I let out a disappointed sigh, letting it go for now. "How is it possible that today is a weekend and there are hundreds ofpeople here, dressed like it's a normal working day," I ask as Bruce continues to wheel me towards a different kind of elevator.
"Because every day is a working day. So many things need to be done so the company won't suffer any form of loss. That's why there are thousands of employees, they do have shifts." Bruce explains, then pops on the button of the elevator.
It's a private elevator because a lot of people are using the other ones, and this one seems specially for Calhoun.Bruce wheels me into the elevator and stands at my side when the elevator doors close shut and start taking us up.
We stay silent during the three minutes inside, listening to the elevator music, until the elevator stops, and the ding sound of the doors opening notifies us that we're on the exact floor.
Bruce wheels me out and he's taking me towards a huge twin aluminum door when the door suddenly jerks open and a tall blonde walks out.
My eyes are almost pulling out of their sockets right now because she seems familiar.
Maddy and Sapphire showed me... And before I can go further with my thoughts, something slams through my senses. Reminding me of who exactly she is.
If I wasn't paralyzed, I would have flinched.
Because...she's my mom!
