Chapter 71 Pregnant
"Congrats, Kristen. You're two weeks pregnant," Doctors Christopher breaks this news to me with a huge smile on his face.
"What?" I shiver-jolt upon hearing this. Is there something wrong with my ears or I misheard him?
"You're pregnant," he says again.
"No," I disagree, shaking my head, "perhaps you brought the wrong test result." My hands are already balled into small fists as my heart keeps doing dangerous backflips in my chest.
Doctor Christopher just smiles and nudges the test result to my side of the table so I can take a look at it.
I hesitate because I want to think this is an expensive joke because I came here this morning to run some tests thinking I was ill. It was still Doctor Christopher who suggested the pregnancy test, something which I nonchalantly agreed to.
Picking up the result, I raise it to my face and let my eyes skim through it.
My first and last name is written on it, and
cold runs through me that I shudder because it's almost like I am thrown into a bathtub that contains more ice cubes than water.
My hands are shaking, causing the test result to flap non-stoppingly because my brain is still trying to fully comprehend everything. Things would've been easier if I was dyslexic or short-sighted where I'll be needing medicated glass, but I can see and everything correctly.
"Pregnant, how is that even possible?"
"You're with Alpha Calhoun, aren't you?"
I am still glued to my seat, unable to even speak up. My mouth parts and no words come out. I repeat the action twice because my brain is already clogged with so many thoughts that I can't even think straight or fathom what is happening.
"Or are you seeing anyone else apart from him?"
"No," is he supposed to even ask about my romantic interest?
"Then he's the father, you should let him know already. I'll bet he'll be elated, after miraculously resurrecting from the dead." "Okay, just stop," I raise my hand up to silence him because he's adding to my discomfort.
"Sorry, it's just exciting to know Alpha Calhoun is having a child with you."
"I was on my period two weeks ago," I point out upon recalling how Calhoun and I had sex and that night and the next morning my period arrived.
"Did you meet with him before that?" Doctor Christopher questioned quietly.
Nodding, I rub my sweaty hands together before settling them on my thighs.
"Yes, we were together and the next morning I was flying red," I explain.
"It's possible to be pregnant while on your period if you have unprotected sex," Doctor Christopher stated matter-of-factly as he clasped his hands together on top of his desk.
It clearly wasn't what I expected to hear from him.
"Oh my god, this isn't happening," I facepalm in distress and sigh.
How on earth can I be pregnant right now, of all the timing in the world?
Mom will not only think I am trying to steal Calhoun away from her, she'll be devastated and hate me more than before upon thinking I am trying to tie him down with me.
And Calhoun...
We're having a baby together?
Oh my effing god...just the mere thought of it is making my knees wobble
Shit. This isn't happening.
My emotions are a mess right now, I don't know if I should burst into tears or throw myself on the floor and have a good laugh myself.
"What the fuck is going on?" I'm not even asking the doctor in front of me. It's directed at the moon goddess.
"It's normal to feel this way; anger, stress, sadness, joy, and relief at once. I'll say it's your pregnancy hormones doing a great deal of manifesting itself."
Doctor Christopher flinches when I smack my fist against his table and rise to my feet.
"I never asked you to rub it in my face, damnit!" I yell, wanting to transfer all of my exasperation on someone and he seems to be the perfect fit because he's only a few years ahead of me.
"My apologies, Miss Kristen," he gulps unsteadily and looks away from me.
Throwing him one last glare, I snatch the test result from the table, crumple it into a ball, shove it in my bag and storm out of his office.
"Kristen," Bruce looks perplexed when he sees me step out of the elevator. I drove all the way to Calhoun's company and took a lift to the eleventh floor.
"I'm here to see Calhoun," My voice is quiet, dangerous.
Bruce leaves the person who he's talking to and nears my side.
"Calhoun is busy," he tells me.
"Doing what?" I can tell the frown on my face is huge.
"He's having a meeting with his staff," Bruce informs me but I don't even care. Calhoun has no right to tumble my life upside down like this.
"What I have to tell him is more important," I grit out, walking away from Bruce.
"Kristen, wait!" Bruce yells but it's already too late.
My hands jerk the large wooden doors open, and there I see Calhoun seated on his power seat on the large table consisting of roughly twenty men, dressed professionally. One man is standing next to the tv and it's obvious he's giving a presentation. "Kristen?" Calhoun immediately rises to his feet when he sees me fuming with rage, "What are you doing here?" "We need to talk," it's insane how I love and hate him at the same time. Because he looks a different kind of good today. "I tried to stop her but she wouldn't listen to me," Bruce explains and sighs.
"Everyone, leave. We'll continue this meeting tomorrow," Calhoun suddenly dismisses them and I am a bit shocked that he's doing this. I was expecting him to excuse himself from the meeting, take me to a quiet corner so we could talk and then I'll tell, and let out all of my frustrations at him.
"But," Bruce attempts to protest but Calhoun interrupts him with a raise of his hand.
"Out, now. All of you," his voice is more firm and commanding this time.
Wordlessly they oblige.
And I can feel my anger subsiding as I watch them leave.
"Including you, get out." Calhoun directs this to Bruce because he's still standing here while the rest are making their way out.
"As you wish," Bruce gives Calhoun a firm nod and he's the last to leave.
When he shuts the door behind him, Calhoun walks up to me.
"Is everything okay?" His ocean-blue eyes are clouded with concern.
"You just called off the meeting for my sake," my voice isn't as clear as I had thought it'd be. It's shaky.
"I was about rounding it up anyway," Calhoun waves this off. And the fact that he's so caring makes my throat tighten with the emotions I have been feeling all along.
"Now calm down tell me what it is," he gives me a quick small smile.
I fight against the urge to tear up but it's just futile. Seeing him right here and knowing I have his seed growing inside of my womb, just makes me completely emotional that I start sobbing.
"Kristen, did something happen?" Calhoun takes his hands off my shoulder and cups my face in his warm, big palms.
"I am...p-p-pregnant," I drop the bombshell at last before bursting into a full volume of wails.
