Chapter 109 GETTING BACK INTO THE GAME.

Asher

“I got your message.” I said but he only stretched out a bottle of water to me.

“She asked me to bring you with me.” He said and I sighed, grabbing the water from his hands. I took a sip before speaking.

“Let's go.” I said, walking back to the house while he followed strictly behind me.

My mother was the first person I saw as soon as I opened the door. Her eyes lit up as soon as she saw me. “Where did you go?” She asked and I turned to face Dima.

Dima lowered his head before walking out of there.

“I went to do some drills.” I said and she frowned.

“Why would you do that? You just got discharged a few days ago. It's not advisable for you to be doing that.” She said and I nodded.

“Okay. I won't.” I said but she didn't seem ready to let me leave.

“Why didn't you show her out?” She asked and I raised a brow. She signalled towards the door, and only then did I remember Irina.

I smiled, turning back at her. “This place is almost her second home, she knows the way out.”

She squinted her eyes. “That's not something a gentle man would say. Are you trying to treat her poorly so I wouldn't know about what's going on between you two?” She asked and I sighed.

I was still thinking of how to tell her about it but she decided to talk to me first.

“There's nothing happening between us.”

She shifted back, studying me before she spoke. “Really? But you too seem pretty close. I only introduced her to you to help you get familiar with things. I didn't expect the both of you to click.” She smiled and I shook my head negatively.

“We didn't. There are no feelings between the both of us.” I said but she wasn't ready to believe it.

“Impossible.” She said firmly. “I've seen the both of you together so many times, I know when two people like each other. Maybe it's because you haven't made a move yet?” She said and I furrowed my brows.

“It's about time for you to finalize the engagement.” She said and I rose up to my feet immediately.

“No. I'm not getting married to her. I don't like her.” I said and she raised a brow.

I sat back by her side and took in a deep breath. “We are only friends and that's the furthest we can go.” I said.

“Really?” She asked, her eyes squinted.

“Yes. I have someone else in mind and I have told her about it. There is no future for the two of us.” I said, and she parted her lips to speak but she only ended up nodding.

“Who is this person you speak off?” She inquired and I wanted to speak but I couldn't.

How was I supposed to tell her that it was only one sided and he had dumped me several times.

“I'll tell you when I'm ready.” I said, getting up to my feet.

“Tell me about it now.” She said, but I freed myself from her grip and walked into my room.

“I'll tell you soon.” I said before closing the door to my room. I relaxed into my chair, wondering whether or not I should let him go.

Later in the evening, I came out from my room but the mood was unexpectedly sour. Dima's hands flew over the laptop while my mother was speaking on a call. I looked at the expressions on their faces and I raised a brow.

“What's wrong?” I asked, sitting across from Dima. Dima looked towards my mother and paused before he spoke.

“Our goods have gone missing.” He said and at that moment, my mother cut the call. She walked towards us, her expression grim.

“They can't account for where the goods are. We will have to send someone there.” She said to Dima.

Dima nodded, looking up from the laptop. “I got the same response here. I'll go and find out what went wrong.” He answered.

My eyes darted between the two of them and I spoke up before Dima could stand. “Let me go instead.” I said.

My mother shook her head as she took a seat. “You should stay out of this. What if you eventually leave this position?” She asked, grabbing a drink.

“I'm not going to leave. Moreover, it's been a while since I've been pronounced as heir but I'm still yet to do anything.” I said but my mother didn't seem convinced.

She sighed, dropping the glass. “For the situation to need someone there, it means it's bigger than we think. I can't risk it.”

I leaned back in my chair. I didn't really believe her words about prioritizing me over the gang but now, it seems she actually meant it.

“I took down the Syndicate just after a few months. I think I can handle this.” I said but she shook her head negatively.

“No. This could be more dangerous than that and you almost lost your life the last time.” She said and I turned towards Dima but he also didn't seem in support of my idea.

A thought struck me and a smile rose on my face. “I'll go with Dima. Just take it as my way to integrate myself into the gang's affairs.” I said.

She parted her lips to speak but didn't manage to get anything out.

“I'll keep him out of anything dangerous.” Dima said, and I nodded enthusiastically. My mother's eyes darted between the both of us and she could only sigh.

“Fine but you have to return in the next seven days, whether you find anything or not.”

“Okay. No problem.”

“When do we leave?” I asked.

“Now.” Dima replied but my mother raised her hand.

“Since he's going with you, you can wait till tomorrow before you leave.” She stated.

Dima nodded.
