Chapter 94 - CAN IT BE TRUE?
But in the midst of his sarcasm, a wave of panic engulfs me. It's too soon, barely a month has passed since that night with Genrant. It can't be real. Pregnant? The mere thought makes my mind whirl in a whirlwind of mixed emotions. Could it be true? Could Genrant and I have conceived a child in such a short time? The idea seems absurd to me; it's impossible. Though something inside me trembles with fear that it could be true, my mind struggles to find a logical explanation.
But logic stands like a wall against the possibility. It can't be. It's been such a short time since Genrant and I bonded in that intimate way. There's no way she's already pregnant. Frank must be lying, trying to confuse me, to break me even more.
"Pregnant?" The word feels foreign in my mouth, full of disbelief and denial. But before I can articulate my skepticism, Frank is already teasing me, enjoying my bewilderment as if it were a delicious delicacy to him.
"You can't be right," I say in a trembling voice, fighting the fear and uncertainty that threaten to overwhelm me. "It's impossible. It hasn't been long enough. Do you think I'm naïve enough to believe your blatant lies? What are you implying, Frank?" my voice trembles, but I try to keep my composure, resisting the tide of doubt and fear that threatens to drown me. "It hasn't even been that long since .... since..." The words get stuck in my throat, my mind struggling to accept the possibility of a new being growing inside me, perhaps the symptoms have been for another reason.
But Frank shows no signs of wavering. With a defiant look, he steps even closer, his whispered words like poison creeping into my mind. "Don't underestimate the speed of werewolf gestation, Livy. It's much faster than humans. What better way to bind Genrant to you than with the promise of a puppy?" whispers Frank with a mocking tone,
Why can't I escape, why does freedom seem so elusive in this moment of desperation, my thoughts are more overwhelming by the second, as if my fear won't let me move my muscles to try to escape.
Fear mixes with anger, helplessness with determination. I can't afford to give up, I can't let terror paralyze me. With one last effort, I channel all my inner strength and prepare to fight whatever is preventing my escape. Because even though the situation is hopeless, I still have the spark of hope burning in my heart, fueled by the desire to protect myself and my son, getting out of here and finding safety is my priority now.
With a superhuman effort, I push my thoughts of the incredible revelation aside and focus on the immediate reality: escaping Frank and this nightmare. If that's true, then it's even more crucial to get out of here as soon as possible, I have to act fast, I think with determination, ignoring the knot of fear twisting in my stomach.
Taking advantage of its proximity, I take a deep breath as quick as lightning, feeling the weight of the gun that is still strapped to my leg. With a fluid and precise movement, I take the weapon from the rope that holds it, wielding it with determination. The cold, heavy metal feels familiar in my hand, an extension of my will in the midst of the chaos raging around me.
Without stopping to think, I fire a shot without looking where, letting the deafening roar of the gun fill the room. The sound is an explosion of chaos in the tense silence, and the recoil of the gun shakes my body with unexpected force. But the shot succeeds, and I see Frank recoil with a cry of surprise and pain.
The impact of the shot seems to momentarily paralyze his movements, and I take advantage of every second of leverage I have. My muscles tense with anticipation, ready for action as I dodge his grip and lunge for the door with determination. Every beat of my heart echoes in my ears like a frantic drum, fueled by the adrenaline pumping furiously through my veins.
Time seems to slow down around me, each step I take towards freedom a desperate struggle against time and fate. My lungs burn with every breath of air I inhale, and I can feel the echo of my own heartbeat rumbling in my chest. But I don't stop, I can't afford to. This time, freedom is at my fingertips, and I am determined to hold on to it with all my might.
My heart pounding with a mixture of desperation and hope, I make my way through the forest trees, the branches pouncing on me like claws eager to catch me. Each footstep echoes in my chest like an echo of my urgency, the gun steady in my hands like an amulet of protection and bravery.
As I run, my mind fills with thoughts of Genrant, the man I love with all my being. A slipper slips off my foot in mid-run, but I can't allow myself to stop, not now that I'm so close to freedom. With every gasp and every muscle burning with exertion, I press on, my determination unwavering even in the midst of the chaos and danger around me. I close my eyes for a moment and I can see his face in my mind, his gaze intense and protective. He is my strength, my reason to fight, and now, with the baby growing in my womb, our bond is even deeper. I long with all my being to return to his arms, to feel his warmth and love enveloping me like a comforting embrace in the midst of the storm.
My thoughts turn to Genrant, silently praying for him to find me, to come and save me as the hero he has always been in my heart. His image is my light in the darkness, my hope in the midst of despair.
With each step I take, the desire to be reunited with him intensifies, fueled by the certainty of our love and the promise of a future together. My feet pound the ground with determination, driven by the need to return to his side, to feel his arms wrap around me in a protective embrace.
I feel a surge of panic sweep through me as I remember Frank's words about the werewolf patrol lurking nearby. I can't afford to be caught by any of them, not now that I'm so close to escaping this nightmare. With every step I take, the tension in the air grows thicker, as if I'm walking into a death trap. Suddenly, something cuts my stride and I stumble, falling to the ground with a thud. The impact takes my breath away and makes me turn my head, desperately searching for something to defend myself as the sound of footsteps comes dangerously close.
A wolf emerges from the trees like a nightmare come true, its grayish fur glistens in the sunlight filtering through the leaves, and it has a wound in one part of its right shoulder that won't stop bleeding, it's the wound from the gunshot. His eyes gleam with a flash of ferocity as he growls with an intensity that chills my blood. Before I can react, I am on the ground, my body trembling with terror as the wolf approaches with slow, menacing steps. Why is it that I can't seem to move? Why is it that every attempt to escape is met with an invisible barrier holding me in place?
