Chapter 792 William’s Secret
Chapter 792 William’s Secret
"You need to figure out what Electra really wants. It's about you as a person, not really about these gifts. And you need to understand that no matter how many gifts you give, the gap between you and Electra is still there. There's no way to patch things up."
Hearing this, Kevin seemed to wake up, like someone had turned on a light in his head.
Margaret also started helping him plan.
Meanwhile, William had been dealing with his company's issues and still hadn't come home by evening.
Margaret was a bit worried and sat in the living room waiting. She almost fell asleep but still didn't see William.
She couldn't stop worrying, so she drove to William's company herself.
When she got downstairs, she noticed the lights on the top floor were still on.
Could this crisis be so serious that even William couldn't handle it?
She went upstairs alone. The whole company was probably empty except for William.
She gently pushed open the door and found him with his head down, staring at documents without looking away. He didn't even notice she had come in.
After a while, William finally looked up and saw her, a smile forming at the corner of his mouth. "How come you're here?"
"Is this accounting crisis really bad? Do you need my help?"
Before, when she had problems, William had always personally stepped in to help her. Finally, it was her turn.
"Someone's been faking the accounts. The fake parts have been separated out, but the company's stock has been affected. And the government department found out about this and is investigating our company closely."
William's company had never had such a big crisis before, and the government had always been very supportive. After all, William was one of the city's biggest philanthropists. In recent years, the company had given one percent of profits from all business to the government for infrastructure and municipal construction.
But this time, how did things blow up so big?
"Is someone behind this causing trouble?" Margaret guessed boldly.
"The government side changed to a new person in charge. This person... had some issues with Grandpa before. I guess they want to use this opportunity to pressure me. Too bad I'm not that easy to take down."
No matter how difficult things got, William never showed his vulnerable side to Margaret.
"I'll stay with you."
These words seemed to carry tremendous power. William suddenly felt energized.
All night, he was busy with this matter. Rechecking the fake accounts, filling the funding gap from the losses, and adding another investment that should show returns soon.
This night wasn't wasted after all.
Margaret kept him company and fell asleep on the couch.
William got a blanket and covered her with it, looking at her sweet sleeping face, warmth rising in his heart.
With a wife like this, what more could a man ask for?
"Is everything solved?" Margaret suddenly opened her eyes and asked, rubbing her temples.
"Almost. Today I'll go talk properly with the people on the government side." William said to her with a smile.
"That's good."
The two were about to leave when they saw Bradley's car parked downstairs—he had specially rushed back from abroad. Things had gotten that serious.
"Why did Grandpa come? I didn't notify anyone about this. I even blocked the news inside the company." William quickly explained. He didn't want his grandpa traveling back and forth at his age. He wanted to take all the responsibility himself.
"Don't worry. Maybe Bradley just came to check on you." But Margaret had other thoughts—since the new person in charge had issues with Grandpa, he probably knew about this long ago.
But she didn't have any good feelings toward this elder.
The two waited in the conference room.
Bradley walked in with an angry face and glanced at Margaret.
"Margaret, go sit in the office for a bit." Bradley had someone send Margaret away.
"Grandpa, why did you come?" William lowered his head, his tone polite.
"If I didn't come, I still wouldn't know about this! How long were you planning to hide it from me?"
Bradley's face was full of anger. He raised his cane and hit William hard on the back.
"I know it's my fault. I didn't want things to turn out this way." William lowered his head to admit his mistake, but didn't get Bradley's forgiveness.
"The person you should apologize to isn't me, it's Margaret!" Bradley was furious, looking at William in front of him with complete disappointment. "You've known all along that the new person in charge is Lena. Why did you hide it from Margaret?"
"You even made up this lie to deceive her. Isn't this trampling on her feelings? Between you and Margaret, can you stand this kind of deception?" The moment Bradley got the news, he could hardly believe it—that his most beloved grandson could do such a thing.
"Grandpa, give me time to handle this properly. Between her and me, it's not what you think." William's tone didn't dodge. His sincerity toward Margaret could stand any test.
"Then why didn't you tell Margaret that the new government person in charge is your ex Lena? And you made up this story about me having issues with her? How did you become like this?" Bradley was disappointed. "When I handed the company over to you, I never thought this kind of thing would happen. In the end, you pull this on me?"
If he hadn't come here himself today, he'd still be in the dark.
"At most seven days. I'll definitely handle this." William already had a plan in mind.
Bradley snorted coldly and tapped his cane hard on the floor. "You little punk, I'm telling you, if this gets out, you better watch yourself!"
With that, he left without looking back.
William let out a long breath, his gaze deep and complex. When he returned to the office, he had switched back to that gentle appearance.
"All solved? Still had to rely on Grandpa to step in." Margaret sincerely sighed. Bradley had held up the company alone for so many years, managing everything perfectly from top to bottom. When he handed the company to William, the prospects were bright.
"All handled."
The two hugged and prepared to go home. Margaret called Electra, then got in William's car feeling at ease.
"Follow this address." Margaret sent him the address.
"What? You guys already worked it out?" William asked.
Margaret held back a smile and wouldn't tell him. "Just wait and see."
When they arrived, it was already dark. Getting out of the car, everything around was pitch black, the night wind carrying waves of coolness.
"Are you sure we didn't go to the wrong place?" William was a bit doubtful. This place was deserted, didn't look like anyone lived here.
Why would they choose here?
"Come on, let's go in and look." Margaret led him into the house. It was pitch black outside, but inside was brightly lit.
In the corner, Kevin was working hard blowing up balloons.
"You blew all these yourself?" Margaret looked at the room full of balloons and decorative ribbons and bubbles.
"Only doing it myself has meaning." Kevin didn't feel tired at all.
William gave him a thumbs up.
"Are you sure she'll come?" Margaret asked with some concern.
Kevin looked at her with surprise. "Didn't I ask you to contact her? You didn't call her?"
Margaret waved her hand. Kevin panicked now, searching the whole room for his phone, muttering non-stop. "I asked you to help contact her. How come you didn't reach her?"
Margaret laughed on the side, watching him rush around, holding up her phone recording the whole thing.
After a while, Kevin finally caught on and couldn't help but laugh. "Okay, you two teamed up to play me?"
