Chapter 789 I Support You, Mr. Fisher

Chapter 789 I Support You, Mr. Fisher

Electra quickly propped her feet up on the back seat and half-reclined. Kevin, enduring the pain in his body, curled up under the seat while Electra grabbed a small blanket from behind and covered him with it. With Electra blocking the view from the front, anyone looking in would only see someone who looked deathly ill.

Margaret gave her a thumbs up.

Soon, the car reached the toll booth. Sure enough, a crowd of people had gathered there, with police standing on both sides.

Margaret's heart sank—could it be that Kevin's kidnappers had some real connections?

They smoothly passed through the first toll gate, but barely 10 feet out, they were urgently stopped. A man in a police uniform, swinging his baton, swaggered up to their car.

Seeing this, Electra immediately acted seriously ill, half-lying and half-leaning crookedly in her seat. Margaret quickly let her hair down and even forced out a few tears from the corners of her eyes.

The man knocked on the car window a few times. William rolled down the window and asked coolly, "What's the matter?"

"Routine inspection, please cooperate with our work." The man spoke in official tones, but his eyes kept darting inside the car.

William lowered all four windows and pointed to the back seat: "My sister is very sick and needs to get to the hospital right away."

As soon as he finished speaking, Margaret's tears started flowing uncontrollably. She cried and shouted, "Electra, hang in there, you have to hang in there!"

Electra had always been good at playing sick—it came naturally to her. She coughed weakly with a hoarse voice: "I don't think I'm going to make it..."

"What's wrong with her?" The man was still somewhat suspicious, his gaze fixed tightly on Electra.

Luckily, Electra hadn't worn makeup when they left today, and this area was so remote that no one would recognize their true identities.

"Lung cancer." William said flatly, his eyes full of loss and regret.

Who would have thought that a CEO, someone who could command wind and rain, could now lie through his teeth without batting an eye? Margaret held back her laughter, nearly breaking character.

The man hesitated, walked around to the back of the car, and reached out to touch Electra. William added another line: "Don't touch her, it's contagious."

The man jerked his hand back and stumbled backward several steps, panic all over his face.

"Go on, go on!" He waved at their car impatiently.

William hit the gas and the car shot forward. Margaret finally couldn't hold it in anymore and burst out laughing. Kevin was also helped up from under the seat by Electra.

Margaret turned to look at him with interest: "Sorry you had to go through that."

Kevin smiled bitterly and waved his hand: "Thanks to all of you."

"I never noticed," Margaret stared at William's profile—this face was absolutely stunning, "when did you become such a good actor?"

"Why are you staring at me?" William returned to his usual calm, focusing on the road ahead.

"I'm just thinking, if you ever go bankrupt, I'll sign you and make you my top male artist." Margaret started fantasizing—with William's looks and talent, it wasn't impossible.

William was amused by her and glanced at her sideways: "Mrs. Fisher, you should ask your son first. It won't happen in my generation."

Margaret snorted: "Why don't you just shut down your company and join mine? I'll make you famous."

This got the two people in the back laughing.

"Margaret, you should give up on that dream. Mr. Fisher is already famous." Electra added from the back.

Margaret felt a bit annoyed, rolled her eyes at them, and closed her eyes to rest.

William drove while constantly checking the rearview mirror, watching for anyone following them.

After going under an overpass, confirming no cars were behind them, he circled onto another highway and prepared to exit at a toll booth.

Unfortunately, there was a checkpoint there too. William quickly woke Margaret up.

"There are police ahead too. We can't use the same trick. Have Kevin sit up properly and keep his head down." William quickly gave instructions.

The car exited the toll booth and was stopped by police. This group of officers was much fiercer than the last.

"Routine inspection." A policeman saluted William. "Please get out of the car. We need to search it."

Margaret's heart jumped, not daring to say much. She gave Electra in the back a look. Several people got out of the car one by one.

The police came forward to search the vehicle while Electra kept supporting Kevin as they stood to the side.

"Aren't you that actor from the news who was exposed for drug use?" A female officer recognized Kevin at a glance.

"You've got the wrong person." William blocked him.

"I'm not mistaken. Look at the photo." The female officer pulled out her phone and carefully compared the photo with Kevin—it was definitely the same person. Other officers immediately surrounded them.

"Talk. Where were you taking this person?"

Facing the interrogation, William knew they couldn't hide anymore, so he questioned directly: "News can be true or false. Besides, things in the entertainment industry are always strange—what can you really tell? Just based on these gossip reports, you're going to convict someone?"

The news about Kevin using drugs was originally just one reporter's one-sided claim with no solid evidence.

The police weren't pushovers either and came forward: "Whether he's used drugs or not, come back with us for testing and we'll know."

With that, they prepared to take Kevin and the others away.

Just then, the group that had been tracking them also arrived. William frowned—they had clearly shaken them off, so where did they come from?

"Officer, let me provide evidence," the leader got out of his car and pointed at William's vehicle. "There are drugs hidden in their car."

William and the others had already been restrained and couldn't get near the car.

The police went forward and searched every inch of their car, and sure enough, found a package of white powder. The officer clutched the package and barked at them: "Take them all in!"

William and Margaret exchanged glances—once again, they'd been set up.

The person behind all this was definitely not someone to mess with!

Several people were taken to the police station. The police pulled up the vehicle registration and, seeing that William was the owner, walked up to him and asked: "What's your relationship with Margaret?"

William snorted coldly, sitting in a chair with his legs crossed, showing no fear: "She's my wife."

Margaret wanted to get at least one person out, so they wouldn't all be trapped, so she said to Electra: "Electra, you should go back. This has nothing to do with you anyway."

Electra hesitated, but couldn't resist Margaret's repeated urging.

After Margaret explained to the police that Electra had nothing to do with this, Electra was released.

Kevin was taken for drug testing. William and Margaret stayed outside, waiting for the results.
