Chapter 17

Aubrey:

After my argument with Alexis, I was over everything. Her, Mike, and most definitely this party. But instead of leaving so soon, I decided to have a few drinks to try to ease the pain I was feeling.

It had just hit one in the morning and I was ready to go. "Babe, you okay?" Mike kept asking as he drove back to Hanks place. Alexis didn't have feelings for me like she claimed she did. She didn't care about us or my feelings. She was right, we were a mistake.

"Mike, do you really love me? Like do you genuinely care about me?" I wondered. If it weren't for the alcohol in my system, I wouldn't even care. I had gotten so used to being in Alexis's arms that I longed to be touched and held. "Of course, I do." He replied, pulling up in front of the house. "Then show me." I said softly, looking over at him.

Mike nodded and helped me slip out of my jacket. He eased my chair back and unbuckled his pants. He rolled over on top of me and began kissing all over my chest. It wasn't long before Mike slid my dress up and pushed aside my panties. He pulled a condom out of his wallet and secured himself.

A few quick pumps and a few blood drops later, my virginity was gone. It wasn't like how I thought it would be. I pictured losing my virginity as a special moment with a special person. It was nothing like that. Mike was no longer special to me and I surely didn't feel special. It didn't feel good until the last pump but Mike toppled over, dripping sweat onto my face.

My mother would be ashamed of me if she knew I wasn't married when this happened. Technically, I did have a ring on my finger when it happened so it wasn't so sinful.

As Mike disposed of the evidence, I walked up the driveway into the house. Alexis's car was parked in front of the house. Great. I dragged myself up to my bedroom and climbed into bed, drowning the thoughts of tonight in my tears.

Imagine my happiness when it was now Sunday morning and Mike was leaving soon. Before he left Los Angeles, I was going to make it my mission to break up with him. After last night, I truly knew he and I weren't meant to be. I took a quick shower and threw on the first thing I could find, which ended up being ripped blue skinny jeans, a plain white t-shirt, a thick grey cardigan, and black-and-white striped Adidas. My hair was flowing messily down my back.

Mike was already downstairs saying his goodbyes to everyone as if he were actually apart of the soon-to-be family. "Hey, you ready?" I asked, cascading down the stairwell. "Oh, yeah. I better get going. Don't want to miss my flight. It was nice meeting you Hank. Give Alexis my goodbyes, please." Mike told him before wheeling his suitcase out of the foyer.

Knowing how short of a drive it would be to the airport, I quickly rehearsed my lines with Mike.

"Mike, we need to talk." I said, sternly.

"Sure, babe. What's up?" he asked. I kept my eyes on the road, not wanting to be distracted by the pitiful eyes I knew he was going to give me.

"I appreciate you coming all the way out here to see me, but I can't do this anymore. I'm breaking up with you," I stated.

As if on cue, I stopped the car in front of the airport. "Are you serious?" Mike exclaimed. "Yes." I replied. "I just think you're being a little drastic. Give me a call when you're thinking straight." He said, sort of in a disgusted tone as he slammed the car door behind him.

Back home, I met my mother, Hank, and Alexis back in the dining room for breakfast. Alexis and I still weren't talking, which hurt but I was getting through it. "How's Mike?" My mother questioned me. "I broke up with him." I responded. My mother gasped and slammed her fork down on her plate. "You what?" She exclaimed. "I broke up with him." I repeated. "Aubrey, why would you do that?" She wondered. "Because I don't want to be with him, that's why."

"Why not?" She responded. "It's none of your business, mom. Mike and I just aren't meant for each other. Simple as that." For some reason, a tear escaped my right eye. I wiped it away and played it off by pretending something had got caught in it. I excused myself from the table and ran up to my room.

It had been about two months since I had spoken to Ashley, one of my friends from Vermont. I decided to give her a call. I really needed someone to talk to.

Ashley answered on the first ring. "Hey!" She squealed into the phone. "I miss you so much." I sighed, on the verge of tears. "I miss you too, Aubrey. What's up? You sound a little sad?" She immediately wondered. "You go first. How have you been?" I replied. Ashley explained pretty basic stuff. Saying our clique had fallen apart because of Heather, which I knew would happen.

"Now, you. Tell me what's wrong." Ashley demanded. "I don't know. I met someone else and I've kind of start to develop some real feelings for them. I broke up with Mike because of the person. But now I have no one." I confessed. Ashley screamed. "Who? Is it some Los Angeles hottie? The kind of guy with abs and one of those orange-y spray tans?" She trailed off.

"Ashely... It's a girl." I admitted. There was a long pause. "I knew it! I knew something was up. O-M-G, what's she like? What happened between you two?" I was shocked by her reaction. I'd expected her to be disgusted, due to her religion and how seriously her parents were against anything that wasn't holy.

"She's great. But..." I told her the events of the weekend.
