Chapter 89 I DON'T WANT THE COMPANY TO GET SOLD.
KIMBERLY.

Getting to Rita's ward, the doctors were just stepping out of her room with Blaire right behind them.
My heart did a little flip as she got closer to where I was standing.
A dark smirk pulled on her face."Look who we have here."
"Get the hell out of my face, Blaire."I mumbled under my breath but audible enough to earn a loud scoff from her.
Glancing around, after making sure the coast was clear from the doctors and Rita's attention, she pulled me into the room next to her ward.
"Seriously?"She huffed out, placing her hand on her waist."You still have the balls to gloat and–"
"What do you want from me, Blaire?"I asked, totally exhausted.
"Like I said, nothing."
"And guess what? I did nothing. Even after the bullshit you did with my mom."
"Just doing the Lord's work."She shrugs proudly."All I did was make your mother reconcile with–"
"And what gave you the right to decide that?"I snapped, my eyes welling with tears threatening to spill down.
Her eyes glisten with heat, like someone fighting numerous emotions in her head."Kim–"
"Reconcile? How easy for you to say when you're not the one in my position."
"I don't want to be in your position."She seethed, fuming at me.
I huffed out a sardonic laugh."Trust me, I don't wish that on anyone as well."
"You sure you're not worrying about burdening Rafael with this?"She questioned, curiosity dancing in her eyes.
"He will be fine."I said simply, shrugging as well.
At this point, I'm going to act like I have nothing to lose either.
Be it to Rafael or to anyone. I already cut Mom out of my life, I didn't need her to give me sleepless nights anymore.
Blaire let out a disappointing sigh as she watched me exit the room.
"This is not over, Kimberly."She growled behind me.
I twisted the knob of the door open, swiveling my head above my shoulder at her."You have enough to worry about, don't waste your sweat on me."
With that, I stepped out of the room finally back to Rita's ward.
Knocking on the door, a soft voice which belonged to her ushered me in so I entered and there she was right on the bed, looking more frail than ever.
"Oh."I slipped out before I could help it.
Rita chuckled, waving her thin hand at me."You still suck at hiding your emotions well."
"Sorry."I mutter apologetically, letting my eyes roam over her again.
God. She looked horrible. Terrible. Like someone whose life had been drained out of her and damn, I hated it for her.
Rita's a good woman. She didn't deserve it. The fact that I never saw her as someone I needed to please for my marriage alone, but also as a badass woman I wanted to be like.
"I'm sorry."I gushed again, slamming my hand over my mouth.
"What?"She laughed, her eyes crinkling up with excitement even though her body was saying otherwise."I'm not dying."
"Of course, I–"
"At least not yet, the doctor said I have some days left."She cut in, her face twisting with heaviness.
"How's the treatment going?"I asked, settling down on the seat she's been pointing at the moment I entered the room.
Rita shrugged, exhaling shakily through her dry lips."Except for the palliative treatment? Nothing more."
My eyes rested on her again, this moment for a long time because I was busy trying to figure her thoughts from her face instead of saying something to make this woman feel better.
She looked like someone who has a lot to say but doesn't know where to start and damn, I wished I could help but I already gave Rafael my words.
I don't want to make things harder for that man.
"I'm so–"
"Please don't tell me you want to apologize for getting sick again?"
I blew out a raspberry, huffing."Of course not, I–"
"There's no hope for me anymore, Kimberly."She said calmly, placing her hand on the edge of the bed like she was trying to reach out for me.
So I did, boldly, I placed mine on her and rubbed on it gently until she smiled at me gratefully.
"So what now?"I blurted, not knowing what to say.
The reality of this feared me so much. That one day, it might be me, heck, I might not even have the privilege of knowing it's coming like Rita and to be honest, this woman is handling it better than me.
"Except fixing my loose ends, trust me,I will die a happy woman."
"Loose ends?"I picked on the words carefully, scanning her face.
"Rafael and his brother."She answered simply.
My heart flipped a little with gratitude, thankful that she dropped the bombshell that had been looming over us since.
"Rafael is your business partner, how are you–"
"I want to be selfish, Kim."She confessed, chuckling lightly.
"What?"
She huffed out again, tipping her head backwards."I don't want the company to get sold, and I will make sure of that before my death."
