Chapter. 27 Feeling Lied to Again
Caroline’s POV
I’ve dressed up beautifully tonight. I don’t know why I was so excited about Logan’s invitation. Just thinking about it makes me happy. I hoped Logan would show up on time.
At the crossroads, I’ve been waiting for Logan for five minutes ago. He hasn’t arrived yet. I’m starting to worry that he’s forgotten about this meeting. But, I try not to think badly of him. He was an Alpha. A leader in this pack. He must have a lot of business in the palace right now. That’s why he could be a few minutes late. I walked here and there while continuing to hope for Logan’s arrival.
Half an hour passed. I was still waiting for Logan there. Although I was getting bored and thought about going home.
“No, Carol. You have to wait for him for a while longer. Remember, you’re about to discuss something important with Logan. So, be patient for a little while longer,” I muttered, trying to convince myself to be patient a little more. However, until fifteen minutes later, Logan really didn’t come. I started to get annoyed and almost cursed his name right there. However, I quickly decided against it. Because of the two adult men who were about to cross the road as well.
“Wow! Logan is really a man who can be a role model,” said a tall man.
“Yeah, right,” his friend replied. Because they were talking about Logan. I immediately felt interested and immediately sharpened my hearing. “He does deserve to be the leader of this pack. And Grace fits him perfectly, too. You saw that earlier, right? They look so happy and compatible,” she added.
I gasped when I heard that sentence. What did that mean? So Logan was with Grace while she left me here like a fool. Oh, Goddess of the Moon. I should have known from the start. If Logan’s invitation, this afternoon was just a joke. Why was I so eager to accept it. Just because of his sweet demeanor this afternoon. Never mind, Carol. Don’t embarrass yourself any further. It’s better to go home and rest now.
I finally turned around and went back home. When I got home. I saw mom helping Frans to walk to the toilet. I immediately went over and helped Frans from the other side.
“Carol. Are you home?” asked mom confused.
“Yes, mom. It turns out that my friend has other business. That’s why we hurry up our business,” I lied. Of course, I couldn’t possibly be telling the truth. Besides, because mom wouldn’t believe me. I also looked even more stupid.
“Why didn’t your friend walk you home? Is Kate in a hurry?” asked Frans.
“Yes, Carol. Who is your friend? I’m curious.”
“Never mind, mom. Frans. I don’t want to discuss it tonight. Let’s talk about this another time,” I said finally. I had no other reason. So inevitably I had to reject it with that sentence.
“Oh, okay. All right. I understand,” mom said, looking disappointed. I don’t know what she’s thinking right now. Maybe she thinks I’ve been rejected by men again. So she thinks my future will be bleak. Don’t ask me where I know this. Because I’ve heard it too many times from my mother’s mouth repeatedly.
I was silent as I looked at my mother, who was daydreaming in the dining room. She must be thinking about me. I don’t know how I can make her less worried about my future.
“Carol,” Frans called softly. I turned slowly towards him.
“Frans. Look at the progress of your legs! It’s really quite remarkable! You’re healing so fast, Frans,” I said with an amazed look on my face. Frans smiled sweetly at me.
“I’m very lucky to be like this, too. But what really happened to your mother? I see she doesn’t seem happy now,” Frans said worriedly.
“I don’t know, Frans. I feel like she’s too worried about my future. She’s afraid that I’ll become an unmarried woman living alone in the middle of the Pack. Mother is too afraid that something bad might happen to me because I don’t have a child to look after me in the future. I know how mom worries about me. But, this time I couldn’t do much. No one likes the scent of my body here. They all hate me. And stay away from me. That’s why I feel they can’t possibly get what the other werewolves get, which is their little family,” I explained at length. Frans understood what I meant. He took my hand and clasped it.
“Carol. Resignation is not the answer to everything that has happened.
If there’s no one here to marry you. I’m sure of it. You are beautiful, kind, smart and brave. Only a stupid man would waste the opportunity to get a perfect woman like you,” Frans said, which finally made me smile. He also showed me some barbeque ingredients that he brought from the house. Because my family did have a small grill in the middle of the table in the backyard. When Frans and I were joking around while enjoying Frans’ barbeque. Suddenly, the man screeched something.
“Has someone been watching us since before? Did you see the human silhouette over there?” Frans asked, pointing to the left where he had seen it thousands of times before.
“Ah, really? I guess you just saw it wrong?” I retorted as I continued to munch on Frans’ barbeque. I had to admit that the man was also good at cooking. In fact, better than myself.
“I could have sworn. There seems to be someone staring at us from afar. Or maybe he was your friend earlier. He probably still wants to see you. That’s why he chose to hide,” Frans said.
“Ah, that’s impossible. He wouldn’t have come here. Believe me, you just saw it wrong earlier. It’s better. Come on, let’s continue eating. I really enjoyed your delicious cooking.” I said with my mouth full. Because I couldn’t stop eating it. Frans smiled sweetly.
“It’s good that you like it. I can cook a little. So, I’ll cook whatever you want. If you ask me,” Frans said shyly.
“That’s very kind of you, Frans. I promise I won’t be shy about doing that if I want you to cook something.”
“Very well. Then I’ll wait for your orders, Miss Caroline,” Frans said, acting like a maid to her employer.
“Hahaha.” Frans and I laughed together. I knew Frans could always make me laugh. He could always cheer me up when I was sad. However, I haven’t been able to feel the happiness that I always felt when I was with Logan. What really happened to me, Goddess Moon? I feel tormented because of this. I kept shouting in my heart. Despite the fact that my lips were pulling at both ends of her lips so that a beautiful smile could be seen just like that.
