Chapter 76 The Dangerous Decision

Chapter 76 The Dangerous Decision
Marcus Pov

I watched as the doctor’s face completely changed.

“Move!”

His roar echoed through the treatment room. Two nurses immediately sprang into action. One grabbed the emergency tray, while the other adjusted James’s oxygen mask with trembling hands.

“Increase the oxygen!”

“Yes, Doctor!”

The monitor continued to echo through the room. Each sound came farther apart than the last. My eyes remained on the screen, not shifting for even a second.

The green line rose… then dropped again.

The doctor quickly leaned over James and pressed two fingers against his neck. Suddenly, his breathing became hurried.

“He’s fading!”

The nurse beside him gasped. “No… his heartbeat is dropping even more!”

As the words dropped, coldness spread across my body.

The doctor didn’t waste another second. He roared, “Start the rescue!”

Immediately, I watched as he climbed onto the bed, then placed both hands firmly on James’s chest.

“1… 2… 3….”

The doctor’s hands pressed down hard. Then the nurse hurriedly squeezed the breathing bag connected to James’s oxygen mask.

Air was forced into his lungs again and again.

The rescue continued. The room became filled with hurried footsteps, heavy breathing, and endless sounds of machines.

“Blood pressure is dropping!”

“Prepare another injection!”

“Doctor, he is not responding!”

At this point, every voice overlapped, and every movement in front of me became faster. Sweat rolled down the doctor’s forehead, while the nurses were shaking so badly that one nearly dropped a bottle onto the floor.

I stood exactly where I was. I didn’t move, but I also didn’t take my eyes away from James.

His body lay completely still beneath the doctor’s hands. No matter how hard they tried… No matter how desperately they fought to save him, James never responded.

My fists slowly curled tighter.

If James is gone… What would Elena do? How would she continue to live?

My eyes trembled and became darker.

This… this feeling… I hated it.

On the battlefield, I could tear through hundreds of enemies without blinking. I could protect everyone standing behind me, and I could even crush anyone standing in my way ruthlessly, but here…

As I stood in this room, watching James struggle for every breath, I couldn’t do anything. A deep feeling of helplessness slowly tightened around my chest.

My jaw clenched.

Darn it!

If only I had arrived sooner… maybe things wouldn’t have become like this.

The thought flashed through my mind, and a figure followed.

“Henry…” I bit out that name, my voice filled with ferocity.

That bastard—I should have crushed his throat. I should have ended him before he ever had another chance to breathe.

Suddenly, the beast inside me roared.

Kill him! Go back and tear him apart!

A fierce killing intent surged through my whole body. My silver-blue aura energy flickered faintly around my clenched fingers, but I immediately forced it back.

No! I can’t distract the doctors with this.

I bit down hard on my tongue. Pain shot through my mouth, but I remained indifferent to it. It was like I felt no pain.

The beast inside me struggled wildly, wanting to take control and destroy everything. It wanted blood. And every scream from the machines made it even more restless.

I slowly closed my fingers.

I gritted my teeth and closed my bloodshot eyes. My body trembled from the insane pain.

Not now… Not now…

I kept chanting the same words continuously, and only after a moment did the roaring beast inside me calm down.

I let out a heavy breath as I opened my eyes again.

The doctor was still pressing down on James’s chest. His movements were becoming slower, and his breathing had become uneven.

As if they had detected something, the nurses looked at each other, and I could see the fear that slowly appeared on every face inside the room.

No one spoke anymore. Only the machine continued to roar.

Beep…

Beep…

Each sound was like a death call.

Then suddenly, the doctor froze.

He stared at the monitor, and the color drained from his face. His lips parted slightly.

“…No.”

His eyes widened as he immediately turned around and rushed toward me. His breathing was uneven, and sweat dropped from his chin onto the floor. He stopped in front of me.

My fingers clenched as I watched him.

For a brief moment, he said nothing. His mouth opened… then closed again. It was like he wanted to ask something but couldn’t bring himself to say it.

I frowned. Impatience flashed in my eyes.

“What is it?” My voice came out low and hoarse.

The doctor swallowed hard. He looked back at James, then at me. His fingers tightened into fists before he finally took a deep breath.

“Master…” His voice shook. “…I need your help.”

For a few seconds, I simply looked at him.

“My help?”

The doctor nodded quickly.

“Dr. Reese’s body is rejecting everything we’re doing,” he said, then glanced back at James before continuing hurriedly.

“His consciousness is fading too fast, and at this rate…” His voice caught in his throat. “…I’m afraid we won’t be able to pull him back.”

My eyes narrowed. I threw a quick glance at the still James, then back at the doctor.

“What do you need?”

The doctor took a deep breath, then said, “Your aura energy.”

The room suddenly became quiet.

Even the nurses stopped moving for a second and turned to look at us.

The doctor swallowed.

“I need you to slowly send your pheromone aura energy into his body. He needs something to hold on to. Something familiar.”

I didn’t answer him. Instead, my eyes slowly shifted to James.

He was still lying there without moving. The monitor beside him continued to sound. Every sound grew farther apart. Then the doctor’s anxious voice reached me again.

“Master, his consciousness is slowly slipping away. If he completely loses it… he may never wake up again.”

The words hit me hard. My fingers slowly tightened.

My aura…

Sigh.

My aura wasn’t like everyone else’s. Especially now, when it was roaring like thunder. It was violent, overbearing, and even strong Alphas would find it difficult to withstand it, talk more of James, who was a Beta and, worse, was weak and already standing at death’s door at this moment.

If my aura energy entered his body…

What if it became the final blow?

For the first time in a very long time, I hesitated.

I lowered my eyes and looked at my own hands.

My pheromone aura energy quickly flickered around my fingertips before disappearing again.

Could I really control it well enough?

Before I could even speak, a familiar voice suddenly came from behind me.

“Master,” Nexus called as he stepped forward. “I’ll do it.”

I turned my head slightly.

Nexus looked at James before looking back at me.

“My aura is much gentler than yours, and if anyone should do this… it should be me.”

Hope flashed across his face as he looked at the doctor, then me.

“Let me try it.”

My lips pursed tightly.

For a brief moment, I considered it.

But—

“No.”

The doctor’s voice cut in sharply.

Before I could even say a word, Nexus frowned, then asked, his voice irritated,

“What do you mean by no?!”

Well… I wanted to know too.

The doctor looked between both of us. His face was full of conflict.

“I’ve thought about it and considered everyone, but…” His eyes finally stopped on me. “It has to be Master.”

My eyes constricted. I lowered my head as I fell into deep thought, but Nexus, who stood beside me, immediately shook his head.

“That’s impossible! You know Master’s aura. If something goes wrong—”

“I know this better than anyone, Manager Nexus,” the doctor cut him off. “But Dr. Reese’s body is already rejecting ordinary treatment.”

He pointed toward James.

“Right now, his body isn’t just weak. His mind is also letting go. He needs a reason to fight and…”

He took a deep breath, then turned to look at me.

“Only an aura that he is familiar with and trusts can do this.”

Silence filled the room. It was so tense.

“If another Alpha’s aura enters his body… his instinct may reject it, and he may fight against it without knowing. But he already knows Master’s.”

His words settled inside the room. For a moment, no one spoke. No one even dared breathe loudly.

I looked at James, then at my own hands again. Even now, the pheromone aura energy dancing around my fingers carried a frightening pressure.

Somehow, I couldn’t help but remember all the times people had collapsed simply from standing too close to me.

How many had failed to endure my pheromone aura energy?

My eyes narrowed.

James…

Could his body really endure this?

Behind me, Nexus spoke again.

“Master… there has to be another way.”

I remained silent. My eyes remained on James, but somehow, the image of Elena kept appearing in my head.

Suddenly, the monitor sounded again.

Beep…

This time, the pause afterward felt even longer. The doctor looked back at the screen, and my dark eyes shook as I saw the panic that flashed across his face again.

“We’re running out of time!” His voice became almost pleading as he looked at me. “Master…”

The room fell completely silent.

I could feel Nexus watching me. I could feel the doctor’s and the others’ nervous gazes on me.

Slowly, I closed my eyes. One breath escaped my lips, and when I opened them again, the hesitation inside them was gone.

I gave a small nod.

“Let’s do it.”

The doctor let out a breath he had been holding.

Behind me, Nexus immediately stepped forward.

“Master!”

Before he could say another word, I raised a hand. Then, without turning around, my calm voice rang out in the room.

“Nothing will go wrong. I’ll handle it.”

With this, I stepped forward toward James’s bed. The doctor stepped aside.

My dark eyes fell on James’ pale face. Then slowly, I raised my hand toward his forehead.

My pheromone aura energy quietly gathered around my palm.

Then…
