Chapter 61 The Meeting 1
Chapter 61 The Meeting 1
Marcus Pov
I sat in the conference room filled with people, but I was already impatient with how slow things were.
The endless discussion was beginning to get on my nerves. Every second wasted here was another second my thoughts wandered somewhere they shouldn’t.
On my right sat the smiley Lexus, who had arrived today, and on my left was my assistant and manager, Amanda. She sat next to me, her expression fierce as she communicated with the people sitting across from us.
Lexus takes care of my underground business, which involves arms, guards, and other things. While Amanda, though not too strong, is a very intelligent S+ Alpha who takes care of my normal company, the last one who isn’t here at this moment is Cleric, an SS+ Alpha like Lexus. He handles the politics and military side.
I sat down with my legs crossed, my face cold as I inhaled the cigarette between my lips, not minding the tension in the room.
The voices around me faded into meaningless noise. They were talking, negotiating, arguing… but none of it held my attention
Just then, I heard the assistant of the man speak.
“Master Marcus Stone, I’m sorry, but this deal isn’t beneficial to us. You should know that the mayor here is the protector of City Berkley, and the information you’re asking for is an invasion of privacy, which can place the mayor in a dangerous situation if found out.”
My lips pursed as I listened half-heartedly.
“You wouldn’t tell us what you need their information for, but you should know that most of those foreigners are influential in the galaxy. So, if anything happens to them, the mayor would be the one to take the blame. So—”
My lips twitched as I slowly raised my head to look at the people across from me. My eyes narrowed slightly. My gaze moved from the obese mayor, who was nodding, then to the two assistants behind him, and finally stopped at the male assistant who had just spoken.
The moment my eyes met his, he froze. His eyes trembled, but with so much indifference, I lowered my gaze back to the table.
Just then, I heard a relieved sigh, then the assistant continued.
“S-so, why don’t we do this 70/30? You take 30%, and we also give you the information you want.”
The room fell silent.
Amanda, who sat next to me, straightened, and even Lexus, who had been smiling, dropped his smile and turned colder.
I didn’t say a word. My eyes continued to stay on the dark, expensive table, but no matter how much I tried to focus on the meeting, my mind refused to cooperate.
My mind couldn’t stop returning to the argument yesterday.
Elena’s angry face as she rejected me. The hurt in her eyes as she questioned me. And… those last words she said before leaving.
“Since you don’t want me, then I have the right to let another alpha who wants me claim me.”
Suddenly, the tapping on the table stopped. My eyes grew colder and more aggressive, and an aura so powerful spread out from me.
Once again, it was like I saw Elena being held by another man. It was like I could see her being fucked by another alpha.
My body trembled. My eyes glared sharply at the table, then—
Bang!!
The sound echoed in the room, shaking the table and shocking everyone into silence.
My fingers on the table kept trembling. I didn’t even notice that I had scared people. All I could think of was the image I had imagined.
My breathing became heavier. My eyes turned redder, and somehow, I was slowly losing control of my energy, but before it could happen, I suddenly heard a whisper—
“Alpha…?”
Still lost in my rage, I slowly turned to look at the one who had called me. My red eyes stared into the eyes of Amanda.
Somehow, I saw her, but it kept mixing with the image of Elena, which made my fingers slowly clench.
My eyes were chillingly cold. So cold that it sent the people in the room trembling.
“A-alpha… we… we’re in a meeting.”
Suddenly, my mind snapped.
I blinked once, twice, then finally, I regained consciousness.
Looking at Amanda, whose face had gone pale, she had sweat on her forehead, and her fingers, which held the pen, were clenched so hard that I could see the veins.
Suddenly, a flash of realization hit me. Frustration flashed in my eyes, then I snapped my eyes shut.
What the hell! How could I lose control over that image?!
It had only been a thought, yet my instincts had reacted as though it were happening right before my eyes.
Darn it!
I must be losing my mind. No, I can’t continue this way.
Just yesterday, when I left home without even looking at her, I had made a decision to cut off the feelings and growing relationship between Elena and me. I had been so determined to be just the ‘uncle’ I’m supposed to be, but now…
Can I really do this?
I opened my eyes, and they flashed with confusion. Just then, I felt something burn my finger, which snapped me awake.
I looked at the cigarette between my fingers, then with a pinch, I turned it into powder, letting it all scatter.
Just then, I realized how silent the room was. My jaw tightened as I slowly raised my head, my eyes sweeping across the room coldly.
The people in the room held their breath as they sat stiffly in their seats. Some of their eyes were focused on the powder on the ground, and some swallowed as they looked at my fingers.
I frowned, then sat back and began tapping on the table again.
Tap.
Tap.
Tap.
Suddenly, I paused.
Why the hell are they still not continuing?!
I looked to my left and met Amanda’s pale face. My eyebrow raised slightly, then I nodded at her.
“Let’s continue.”
As if the room had been released from a cage, I heard a few people release a breath, but I didn’t care. My head remained low as I listened to them speak.
“Mayor Francis, I think you’re chewing more than you can.” Amanda’s cold voice echoed in the room, breaking the stillness.
The tension in the room rose immediately.
