Chapter 13 Chapter Thirteen

Chapter 13 Chapter Thirteen

Jaslyn

Days sped by, and I soon forgot about the fact that I almost kissed Zeeland in the library. I wasn't kidding anyone though. To be fair, I tried to forget, but bumping into him almost everywhere didn't help matters. Worse still, it was always whenever he was getting chummy with Alyse. My purpose at the Zen pack was already accomplished, and it seemed he'd already forgotten all about me.

Whenever we crossed paths , he regarded me with an indifferent gaze that always made me question if what'd had almost in the library had been real, or my imagination. Alyse on the other hand was getting much better at taunting me. She never did so in the presence of Zeeland nowadays though. The two-faced bitch.

Pretending to be sweet and kind to me, when truly all she wanted was to see the death of me.

My efforts at rousing my wolf weren't any better than when I'd started. And the Vampire stranger hadn't made another appearance ever since our encounter in the forest that afternoon. Deep down, I wanted to see him one more time, and I didn't even know why.

I didn't realize I'd almost walked down the entire hallway, until I bumped into someone.

“Sorry,” I muttered, and tried to move away.

“You should watch your steps, Luna.” The words were spoken with so much contempt, that I blinked and raised my head up properly to have a clear look at who it was. His face was familiar, and I wondered where I'd seen him before. Then it clicked.

“Fancy meeting you here again, Tyvera.” I smiled sourly.

He didn't return my gesture. “There’s no need to be formal. You're siding with the wrong person, and you'll soon regret it.” He said with so much hatred in his voice.

I took a step back. His eyes were calm, yet threatening. It was almost as if he was hiding so much power and was waiting to unleash them on someone.

“And who's the wrong person I'm siding with?” I retorted.

He sized me up with his eyes. And at last he said, “Zeeland.”

“I can see how wrongly you're being treated. Become one of Armand or Benoit's toys, and you won't have any cause to suffer anymore.” He added and smiled scornfully, and I suddenly felt sick.

The nerve!

He looked so full of himself, that instead of getting angry, I was amused instead.

“That’s so kind of you, Tyvera.” I lowered my voice, and sounded as meek as possible.

“So you accept my proposal then?” He asked with narrowed eyes.

I shook my head. “I need to think about it. It's so sudden for me.” As I spoke, I deftly dipped into his mind.

‘Poor slut. I wonder how her pussy will feel around my cock’

‘Oh, look at those tits. She's so easily fooled. She'll be wrapped around our fingers in no time.’

I had to fight back the revulsion that enveloped me, as well as the sudden anger. I didn't let any of my emotions show on my face of course.

“Take all the time you need. Make the right decision though.” He smiled, and the sickness in my stomach mounted.

Golly. The man could win an Oscar for acting if he ever ventured into the movie industry. His acting was flawless as hell, and maybe I'd have been fooled if I hadn't read his mind. And if of course he hadn't mentioned Armand and Benoit. The last thing I wanted was to have anything to do with those brothers.

“I-I should get going now.” I mumbled and kept my head bowed as I walked away, to convince him further.

Once out of his eyesight, I scoffed and shook my head.

I walked into my new room- yes, Alyse had convinced Zeeland to let me have my own room, while she stayed in his- and locked the door behind me. On second thought, I unlocked it in case a servant came by. For the first time since I moved out of Zeeland's room, I truly looked around my new one without anger, and I inwardly thanked Alyse. At least, I no longer had to bear the torture of having to watch Alyse do things with Zeeland that I'd rather do with him instead.

I had this room all to myself. Myself.

Just like I'd thought, a knock came at the door moments later.

“Come in,” I called out lazily, expecting one of the servants.

But it wasn't a servant who walked in, rather it was Zeeland's Beta- Dmitri.

“Hello.” I sat up and managed a smile.

He stood stiffly, and handed out a card to me. “The Alpha wants you to go shopping.”

I eyed the card, and my eyes widened slightly. A black card.

“What for?” I asked without making any move to accept the card.

“Just do as he says, and forget about the questions.” He said a little too stiffly.

I was already used to his crisp tone so I didn't mind.

I leaned back against the chair. “Let me know why I'm going shopping, and I'll accept the card. Otherwise, forget about it.”

He regarded me for a moment, the expression on his face alternating between anger and frustration.

“Fine,” he grumbled. “I’ll tell you.”

I sat up. “Spill.”

“The lesser packs will visit the pack soon to pay homage to our pack. As the…Luna, you have to look good.” His tone turned hard towards the latter part.

I wasn't Luna yet, and I knew it. Neither was Zeeland Alpha. But as the council had ruled out, we both had to act out the parts until the Inter-pack Alpha-Luna competition was over, and then Zeeland would fully settle down in his position as Alpha.

The implications of their words were clear- although Zeeland and I were recognized as leaders of the pack- we weren't really one. And deep down, I knew that Zeeland was waiting until the competition was over to finally choose Alyse as his Luna. The thought of it hurt like hell.

I accepted the card from Dmitri as nonchalantly as I could, and gently slid off the couch I'd been sitting on. I stood straight. “So, who's taking me?”

“I will.”

“Okay. Let's go.” I smoothened my pants.

He looked me over as if silently telling me that I looked too plain and I should perhaps change. I ignored his stare and moved towards the door. “Don’t keep me waiting.” I called out as I went.

I waited until Dmitri parked the car at the parking lot of the beautiful and expensive looking shopping mall, before I got out of the car.

“Is there any need to come up with you?” He asked.

I shook my head. “I won't take long. You can stay back.”

He nodded, and went back into the car. The black card was safely tucked into my purse. I took an elevator and headed to the top floor where the VIP clothes store was. As I got out, an attendant hurried over. But her excitement soon died down when she saw how plain I looked. She merely mumbled a “welcome,” and stood to the side.

Ignoring her snobbish attitude, I headed directly toward a pretty pearl gown which I'd spotted immediately as I entered the store. Another attendant came over.

“Hello Madam, welcome to the Chartreuse store. Do you have a particular design in mind, or would you like me to suggest a few for you?” She asked with a polite smile.

I was taken aback and impressed by how polite and professional she was. I'd already given a bad review to the store as a whole, but I changed my mind immediately. In a world of snobbish people like the first attendant, there were also nice people like this pretty attendant with cute freckles and beautiful hair.

“Yes, thank you. I think I like that gown.” I gestured at the gown.

“Oh, of course. Please come with-” She was saying when she was rudely interrupted by the first attendant.

“Don’t be ridiculous, Suxan. That gown costs millions of dollars. Does she look like she can afford it?” The attendant asked with a sneer on her face.

Suxan turned to her colleague. “Don’t be rude to our customer, Reeta,” she admonished. Turning to me, she smiled again, “Pardon our manners. This way, please.” She led the way.

“I want that gown.” A clear voice called out suddenly making us turn our heads simultaneously.

My eyes narrowed when I saw who it was. Dear goddess of all goddesses.

“Luna Alyse!” The rude attendant- Reeta- hurried over with a fawning and sickening smile. “Welcome to our store.”

I eyed Alyse angrily. I knew she wanted my gown out of spite. I hadn't h

eard her enter the store nor did I know when she arrived, but if she thought she was going to step over my head easily in public like that, she better have a rethink.

“She’s not Luna, stop saying such nonsense.” I scoffed. Alyse’s face turned a bright shade of red at my words.
