Chapter 14 Chapter Fourteen
Chapter 14 Chapter Fourteen
Jaslyn
“Are you new to this pack? Everyone knows that Alpha Zeeland has taken a new Luna, and who else would it be other than her?” Reeta turned a scornful gaze at me.
I was the one he'd chosen, but there was no use arguing with her.
Alyse gave me a taunting smile. “Wrap that gown up for me.” She ordered Reeta.
“But this customer asked for it first.” Suxan argued boldly, stepping forward.
I placed a hand on her shoulder. “Don’t worry.” I said softly.
“Of course you wouldn't bother. You can't afford it anyway. You just wanted to show off to impress us. You should be thankful that Luna arrived in time to save your cheap tricks from getting exposed.” Reeta laughed as she moved past us.
“I’m sorry, Miss.” Suxan faced me with an apologetic smile.
I nodded. “It’s fine. Can you take me to see other dresses?” I requested calmly.
“Of course, Miss.” She led the way through pretty dresses on hangers, and my eyes caught on one.
It stood out indeed. It was a purple low necked gown with a corset-like waist and had many glittering sparkles on it. The neck was designed to show some cleavage and gave off a daring vibe. It was even prettier than the gown I'd chosen first. I didn't hesitate.
“I want this one.” I told her, without looking at the price tag.
“It comes with a black tiara too, miss.” Suxan beamed. She seemed determined to wipe off the bad record of her colleague. I smiled. I knew that these stores gave their employees bonuses based on their sales. I was dressed plainly at that moment, yet Suxan didn't seem to mind the fact that Reeta could get a better bonus than she would.
“I’ll take both, please. Wrap them and ring them up for me.” I instructed calmly.
Reeta had already boxed Alyse's dress for her, and she had a smug smile on her face when we walked over.
“Are you out of your mind, Suxan?” Reeta screeched when she saw the dress in Suxan’s hand.
I was pleased with the dress. I already tested it out in the changing room, and my eyes had nearly fallen out. It looked so regal and breathtaking. I was inwardly thinking if I should thank Alyse for her little display of foolishness, for if she hadn't insisted on getting the gown, maybe I wouldn't have seen this one.
At the moment, Suxan was looking at her coworker in confusion.
“Take that back at once.” Reeta ordered pompously. She looked so pleased at the discomfort on Suxan's face.
I stepped forward. “And why should she do that?”
“Isn’t that obvious? You can't afford it?” She snickered.
“And how sure are you about that?” I crossed my arms.
“The gown costs 86 million dollars, Miss. Have you ever set your eyes on a million dollars before?” Reeta eyed me over once more.
“What’s going on here?” Someone called out from behind us.
I turned to see an unsmiling man with shrewd eyes. His eyes slightly widened as he saw me. But as he moved past me over to Alyse, I realized I wasn't the one he'd been looking at.
“Luna Alyse,” he smiled. “Welcome to our store. How're you liking the experience?”
“Are you the manager?” she asked.
“Yes, yes I am. What are you all waiting for? Attend to her.” The manager ordered, and Reeta dashed forward before he was even done speaking.
“Suxan was aiding a customer in making the Luna uncomfortable,” Reeta said slyly as she boxed the dress beautifully.
The manager fixed Suxan with a hard stare. “How disrespectful. Apologi-”
“She doesn't have any need to apologize to anyone, manager. She did nothing wrong.” Deciding it was time to step in, I said coolly.
“And who are you? The customer who was disrespecting the Luna?” He gave me no chance to respond, as he glanced interestedly at the gown that Suxan was holding.
“Is that the gown Luna Alyse is taking?” He asked with a big smile.
The smile on Alyse's face cracked.
“No. It's for this customer.” Suxan shook her head and said with a small voice.
Feeling angry at how they were putting her in a tight spot, I whipped out the black card.
“Here you go.” I handed it to Suxan who let out a little gasp.
“Why, why, that's a Black card.” Her voice was barely a whisper.
“Don’t be ridiculous. It's probably fake.” The manager sneered.
My lips curled. “Is it?” I challenged him.
“As sure as earth.” He retorted.
“How much did you say the gown cost, Suxan?” I faced the attendant.
“It’s eighty-six million dollars.” She replied.
“Ring it up.” I instructed.
“I’ll do it,” the manager interrupted. The sneer was still on his face, and I knew he felt quite sure that I was lying.
He rudely grabbed the card from Suxan's hand, and headed over to the machine.
On the side, Alyse was gloating in her little paradise of fawning subjects. She snickered every now and then. She moved closer and leaned towards my ears.
“I wonder what makes you think a slave can afford a designer dress. So delusional.” She scoffed and straightened. Without breaking eye contact, she snorted, “Watch and see how good your disgrace would feel.”
I returned a lazy smile. “I’m looking forward to it.”
“H-how can it be?” The manager’s voice interrupted us, and I raised my head in his direction. He was holding the card and staring at me in horror.
“What are you talking about, Manager?” I asked with the complete air of nonchalance.
“Y-you-” His voice broke.
“The card isn't fake?” Alyse screeched.
“Of course it isn't, Alyse. You know who I am after all.” I smiled sweetly. Her lips quivered a little, and a look of disbelief covered her face.
“Suxan, the dress, please?” I requested.
She handed a beautiful box with a fancy ribbon on it to me. “Here, Miss.” She dipped her head politely.
“Thank you. My card, please?” I requested with a mocking smile.
Reeta was as pale as a sheet when I glanced over at her direction. She didn't meet my gaze.
“Just a moment. I'm quite sure that the card is not yours. You must have taken it from Luna's bag when she wasn't looking.” The manager insisted obstinately.
I shook my head, amusement schooling my features.
“I’ll overlook the fact that you just called me a thief. But are you also suggesting that Alyse is the owner of the card?” I asked calmly.
“Yes, I'm sure about that. How else can you be in possession of such a priceless item?” His lips turned downwards in a mocking manner.
Alyse, who was enjoying how everything was playing out, didn't interrupt. The furious look which had been on her face earlier on had lessened a bit.
Reeta had also moved to side with the manager. Bunch of snobbish fools.
“And why isn't the victim of my theft saying anything?” I asked, already craving for my bed at home. Gosh, if this was how every shopping day was going to be, I'd rather remain plain looking.
How can these people be so stupid. I spotted Suxan shaking her head slowly at the side.
“Luna Alyse is too modest to agree that the card belongs to her.” The manager insisted.
“Is that right?” I was getting irritated at that point.
“Does the card belong to you, Alyse?” I narrowed my eyes on her.
“Yes.” She raised her chin.
I felt a sickening sensation in my belly. “Who does it belong to, Dmitri?” I glanced over her shoulder at the Beta who'd come into the store moments ago. Alyse hadn't noticed him because her back was facing the entrance.
Now she had a startled look on her face as he stepped forward.
He took my box and stretched out his hand towards the manager’s direction.
The manager handed it over with a victorious look on his face. “See? The dress wasn't yours after all. You're probably a servant.”
Her nose still in the air, Alyse strolled out of the store while I waited for a little moment before heading over.
“I attended to the customer who got the expensive dresses, Manager.” I heard Reeta say as I made to go out of the store.
I whirled around sharply to see Suxan's pale face.
“What did you just say?” I asked in a low stifled voice.
“The Luna bought both dresses after all.” Reeta laughed in derision.
“Did she?” I sneered. “Dmitri!” I called out, without breaking eye contact. “Return the dress.”
“That won't scare me. So, quit the act. I already know you didn't buy the dress.” Reeta’s mocking look didn't fade.
I wanted to head over to another store, but a second look at Suxan's face made me change my m
ind. She could get a better bonus if I bought the dress. But I wanted to teach the manager and Reeta a lesson before I did.
“Return the dress, please.” I ordered as Dmitri came back.
“Yes, Luna.” He nodded and placed the box on the counter.
The manager and Reeta turned white immediately and they slowly faced me.
“L-Luna?”
