Chapter 9 A Million Dollar Revenge
Evelyn’s POV
I stared at the man in front of me with my gaze filled with venom. “Leave if you are here to frustrate me,” I spat.
He chuckled, crossing his arms across his chest.
“I’ll remind you if you've forgotten.” His voice was low and calm. “It's my house, and I don't need permission to be anywhere.”
Arrogant asshole. It made me clench my jaw.
He turned away from me, and the little smile that was on his face disappeared like it was never there.
His gaze shifted to Mira. “Get her ready today. By tomorrow, we’ll be showing up on the Denklings show.”
He turned back to me, stretching a card I hadn't noticed was in his hands to me.
“Go get new dresses, you will be needing them,” he said.
I took the card for him and stared at him for a while, my face showing nothing but the hatred I harbored.
He walked out, leaving Mira and I in the room again.
She made me practice walking with heels for a few more minutes, making me realize the problem I had was my posture.
After that, she demonstrated how I'd have to sit on the interview chair like a classy lady. I couldn’t remember taking these things to note back at home. Mom made us live a simple, stress-free life.
Sitting on the leather sofa with my legs crossed, my hands resting neatly on my lap.
A smile plastered on my face, even when it wasn’t genuine.
We did those things for a while longer before Mira told us to call it a day.
“Let's stop here,” she said.
I sighed in relief, thinking I'd finally be able to get back to my room to rest.
“Now let's go buy you dresses as the boss instructed.”
I groaned but knew there was no escaping it. The show had to happen.
I moved back to my room, took a quick shower, and changed my dress before moving back downstairs.
Downstairs, Mira was waiting patiently by the door. When I got to her, she gestured towards the parking garage, which was just on the left-hand side of the vast compound.
The parking lot was rich on its own. Cars lined up in a row: black, white, red, and blue.
Someone emerged from the shadows, walking to both of us.
He bowed slightly. “Where to, ma'am?”
Mira gave the reply in my stead. “The boutique. The boss approved it.”
I scoffed. So I can't go anywhere if he doesn't approve?
The man dressed in all black turned my attention back to him. “Which of the cars would you like to use?”
I ran my gaze through the cars in the lot, and every one of them was looking attractive, looking so damn expensive.
This man is filthy rich, and that pisses me off at the moment. Because of his wealth, he thinks he can walk over everyone else.
I stared at the credit card in my hand, thinking of what to do with it.
If I decide to spend every damn cent on this card, would he go broke?
I looked back at the man in all black. “Any of the cars is fine.”
He bowed slightly. “Then we will go with one of the black Porsches.”
“This way,” he led us to the car, and I followed, Mira following behind me.
Minutes later, we were already in the car, and he drove the car out of the parking lot into the streets, then onto the main road.
The drive to the boutique was filled with silence. Soon, the car stopped.
“I'll wait here, ma’am. Please take your time,” The driver said.
I nodded and flashed him a smile. “What’s your name?”
He replied immediately. “David.”
Mira and I walked into the mall. Our entrance made heads turn. Everywhere fell silent with hushed murmurs filling the room.
I wondered why they were staring at me like that until I heard one of them whispering under her breath.
“She's Adrian Kane’s wife. They just got married.”
“We have to be careful of her,” another said. “If we don't want to get on Mr. Adrian's radar.”
My gaze snapped to the two ladies gossiping and they shivered when our eyes met. They swallowed hard, and their hands visibly trembled as they tried to focus on something else.
Was this man this powerful? Enough to make people shiver in the presence of his wife?
I ignored them and walked to the stores where we’d get the dresses.
A smirk curled up my face as I stood in front of the rack of dresses.
The plan was simple. Drain Adrian's card. And I was going to do just that.
An attendant walked to us, bowing slightly.
“Good morning ma’am, I've been told to attend to your needs and guide you throughout your shopping hours,” she said and bowed politely again.
“How much are the dresses on this rack?” I asked.
“They range from $5000 to $8000, ma’am.”
I did the calculation in my head, but shook my head negatively. I didn't think I'd be able to drain the card by buying dresses at those prices.
“What's the price of the most expensive silk dresses you have?” I asked.
“$25000, ma’am,” the lady said with a bit of hesitation.
I smirked. “Let me see them,” she took me to see the dresses.
I blinked for a second, seeing the luxurious dresses in front of me, but quickly hid my surprise.
“I'll take everything on that rack,” I instructed.
Mira appeared in front of me, her eyes wide open in terror.
“That's more than a million dollars, ma’am,” she said, her voice a bit shaky.
I only smirked. Yes, I know. And I'm not done.
A call disrupted the silence between us. Mira quickly lifted her phone to her eyes, glancing at me before she picked up the call.
I moved over to the dresses, feeling the texture of the silk.
Mira’s phone was not on speaker, but I could hear the voice from the other end clearly.
“Let her know….” It was Adrian. “The money in that card is enough
to buy the whole store.”
I blinked, snapping my gaze to the phone in Mira's hands. He knows what I'm doing. How can he see me?
