Chapter 10 His eyes are Everywhere
Evelyn's POV.
I got over my shock when the call ended.
How did he know?
I scanned the boutique, looking at the surveillance cameras that surrounded the place.
But was Adrian seeing me from there? Does he have access to the boutique?
I really couldn't tell how powerful that man is, but at the moment, I wanted to try him.
“Keep picking the dresses. I'll take everything on the next rack too,” I said.
The attendant bowed and did just as I said, grabbing a cart and carefully placing the dresses inside.
Shopping took us hours because I took my time picking the dresses and calculating the amount of millions I had spent.
When I paid the bills, I sincerely wished the account would tell them I had exceeded the limit, but the money was withdrawn without any trouble.
“Let's go,” I said to Mira. David had been called in by the attendant to help load the bags into the car from inside the boutique.
Outside the boutique, I watched as David pushed the already packaged dresses into the back space of the car.
“It is you, isn’t it?” A deep voice said, making me turn.
I squinted my gaze, looking at the man in front of me. He was dressed in a T-shirt, his face in panic.
He looked familiar, but I couldn't recall where I had seen him before.
“You are the one from the mall! The store he locked!” He said, his slightly raised voice shaking.
I blinked. “He?”
“You are Mr. Adrian's wife, aren't you? I saw you on TV!” He said.
Then the memory came rushing back. He was the store manager from that day, the day I met Adrian Kane.
My eyes widened in surprise. “You are the store manager.”
He nodded quickly. “I'd like to talk with you for a moment.”
Yes. I've seen him once before, so I won't have a problem talking with him.
I almost agreed when David came back to me. “I finished packing up, ma'am. We may leave now.”
“I'd like to talk to him for a few minutes, wait in the car,” I said, my voice authoritative.
“I’m sorry, ma'am.” David stood between me and the store manager. “I'm sure the boss wouldn't approve of it.”
I scoffed to myself, his words amusing me. I didn’t know he wasn't just a driver but someone who had been instructed to watch me.
Did he tell him about the dresses, too? No, I didn't think so. He was outside.
I stood my ground, holding his gaze with my darkened one. “Wait in the car with Mira. I'll be there in a few minutes.”
He only clenched his jaws for a second and bowed his head slightly. He walked away from me after glancing at the store manager with his darkened expression.
He left, and I moved a few feet away from the car to talk to the store manager.
“So? What happened to the store?” I asked.
“He closed it, ma’am! He made everyone jobless just because of a little mistake,” he said.
I blinked, my face turning in pity. I was also starting to see that Adrian Kane was a man with no mercy, a very ruthless asshole.
“I'm so sorry about that.” That was all I could bring myself to say as I knew I wouldn't be able to find a solution to their problems.
“Please talk to him!” He grabbed my hand suddenly. “I know you got married to him. Everyone saw it. Please tell him to reopen the store.”
I was caught unaware by the way he held me. I tried to get his hands off me, but he didn't let go.
“Please let go, you’re hurting me,” I said nervously, pushing his hand, which wouldn't budge off me. “There's nothing I can do. I’m sorry.”
The man suddenly left my hand, staring at me, his eyes filled with venom. “You don't want to help?”
“You caused this! Because you intervened, he locked the store!” He spat. “If you had just gone your way, then I would have been able to persuade him and make him see it was just a misunderstanding!”
I scoffed. Now he was blaming me when all I tried to do was help him.
“My fault, huh?” I scoffed in disbelief. “Because of you, I'm also in this predicament!” I raised my voice at him.
I didn't want to tell him what exactly the predicament was. I didn’t want to tell him I was forced to get into a marriage with Adrian Kane because of that very intervention.
I heard the car door slam shut and turned. David was already out, standing beside the car with his two hands placed at his front.
“It's time to go, ma'am,” he said.
I took in a deep breath and faced the manager again. “I'll try to see what I can do, but I'm not guaranteeing that the store will be reopened.”
I left his side immediately and walked back to the car.
He shouted after me. “I'll be waiting. I'll find you.”
I got into the car, slamming the door after me.
“We can move,” I said to David, who was back in the driver's seat.
The car started, and we headed back to the mansion. A few minutes later, the car was parked in a space in the vast compound.
“I'll get the packages inside, ma'am. Please go ahead,” David said, and I nodded.
“Thank you,” I said and walked into the house, Mira following behind me with some of the bags.
I was shocked to see Adrian seated on the sofa like a king, his hand spread wide on the arms of the chair.
Mira only bowed slightly and walked away, but I couldn't. I couldn't move my feet away from where I stood.
His gaze turned to me, and his eyes were a mixture of darkness and amusement.
He asked, raising a brow. “So, how was it? Were you able to reach the card limit?”
