Chapter 77 I know who tried to kill you

Chapter 77 I know who tried to kill you
Evelyn's POV.

The hospital was filled with noises from doctors and nurses, cries from patients who needed to be treated.

I was placed on a stretcher and wheeled to a room. Adrian didn't get inside with me, he only instructed Edward. “Leave her side for even a second and you won't end up losing only your job but all your years of freedom.”

The doctor had me dress in another of the hospital gowns, she checked and rebandaged my wounds. She talked about being worried when I disappeared but all I could think about was the person who tried to kill me.

After she left, the door opened and Eva entered, her frowning face turning into that of a smile. She rushed over to me, pulling me into a hug.

“I thought something had happened to you,” she cried. “I was so worried.”

Mom also entered behind her, a sigh of relief escaping her lips.

“When your husband won't tell us which hospital it is, we thought something really bad happened.”

I turned to Eva first. “You don't hug a sick patient like that, except you want something really bad to happen to me other than this”

I raised the hospital shirt up and showed her my bandaged side.

Her hands went to her mouth as she gasped. “Oh, sorry.”

“Thanks for checking up on me,” I turned my face back to my Mom who scoffed at my words.

“Are you kidding right now?” She said, “My daughter got stabbed and I need to be thanked for checking up on her?”

I laughed at her words though it wasn't funny.

“Your father sent his greetings, he was worried about you all night,” she said, dropping the lunchbag she brought to the table. “You should have breakfast.”

Mom unpacked the box, bringing out different dishes. She came to the side of the bed, bringing out the table attached to the bed before placing the meal on it.

“You reek of smoke. It looks like you burnt something or was near a burning fire,” Eva noticed. Nothing gets past my younger sister.

“What's it?” She asked.

“Nothing, Eva,” I responded. “It's probably the hospital dress the doctor gave to me,” I lied.

I didn't want to tell them about the second attack, it would only make them worry.

I picked the cutleries up, wanting to start the meal but it was Eva's time to catch up with me after an unfinished birthday party last night.

“I got so scared yesterday, Evelyn,” she said. She shook her head, a way of showing that she was recalling the moment, picturing how terrifying the sight looks.

“Why did someone stab you?” she asked. “Was it a mistake because there was no light? Does someone have a grudge against you?” Her face was laced with worry.

I smiled at her, trying to make my smile as reassuring as I can. “Everything is fine now, Eva. You don't have to worry about anything.”

I started the meal. I realized I had missed my Mom's food and I ate every spoon with a smile on my face.

Soon, a knock came on the door, the door opening right after.

Mira walked in with a lunchpack in her hands. She bowed slightly and when she lifted her face and saw the table in front of me, she smiled.

“I made you porridge for breakfast but I guess I'm late,” she said. She walked in, dropping the box on the table.

“You must have used a lot of effort to prepare porridge specially for me,” I chuckled. “Of course you aren't late, I should eat it.”

Without hesitation, Mira unpacked the box, placing the plate of porridge in front of me, beside it a plate of fruit salad.

That too, I ate to my fill. Hours passed and everyone was still here, Eva keeping my company with talks.

The doctor came back to check up on me and when she was done, I asked. “When can I get discharged?”

She looked at the ceiling like she was calculating. “In two days? Or three days?” She smiled then walked away.

I had a maximum of three days to spend here. I wanted to tell her to discharge me today, that I was fine but I decided to get treated fully so I don't have regrets later.

“I should leave now,” Mira said. “The boss would need me to prepare lunch for him.”

“Adrian is home?” When he left, I thought he had an urgent place to visit. I didn't expect him to head back home while I'm still here, trapped on a hospital bed.

“Yes,” she replied. “He has some work to sort out so he won't be coming here.”

I nodded. Mira bowed slightly once again before exiting the room.

Eva's voice rose again. “The whole internet is in a frenzy.”

She picked her phone, shaking her head as she went through.

By the mention of the internet, I recalled something. That made me snap my face to her. “What about my bag?” My face was laced with terror as I knew important things were in that bag.

“Don't worry, I got it when you fell,” Eva smiled. “Where is it?” I asked.

“It’s home. I only came here with your phone,” Eva replied.

She handed the phone over to me and I checked the articles she was talking about.

News about me getting stabbed was all over the news but no one knew the update. There were no reporters outside because the hospital's name was not leaked to them.

“Go get me my bag, Eva,” I said. She looked at me surprised but she didn't question me.

“I'll be back,” she said simply with her soft voice, heading out of the room.

Nathaniel handed a flash to me, I needed to check if that was still intact.

A message popped up on my phone while I scrolled through articles. It was from Cassandra.

“I know who tried to kill you,” Her message reads. “Reply this message if you want to know.”
