Chapter 74 Too Fast
Adrian's POV.
“I could already tell that wasn't the truth” Nathaniel continued. “No hitman would snitch on the mastermind that quick”
Was I not thinking straight because of Evelyn? Because that should have been obvious.
I took a deep breath and faced him again. “Who's it?”
My face was darkened and the look on my face made the guy shiver.
“I can't tell you,” he croaked. “Even if you promise to let me go, I can't tell you”
Now he was starting to shake. I squatted in front of him, holding his chin roughly.
“I'm not promising to let you go but I still need you to talk” I said. “Tell me who took my wife! Where did you take her to?”
He didn't respond but only breathed heavily. This wasn't going to work.
“Hand me the steel” I stretched my hand. David handed a steel rod to me and I took it without delay.
The guy's breathing doubled, his face turning in terror.
“We have to take this the hard way if you aren't going to talk” I raised the steel up in the air, ready to smash it on him when he spoke.
“I'll talk!” My hand paused in the air, my face fixated on him. I didn't say a word, I only waited for him to speak.
“It's Cassandra,” he blurted. “She wanted me to confuse you by saying it's Cecelia, I'm so sorry”
His lashes were laced with tears and I was convinced that he was speaking the truth this time around.
“She wanted you to kill her?” I asked.
“I don't know. She only gave me the knife to stab her with” he explained. “She was also the one who looked into the hotel beforehand”
“And if you are not speaking the truth?” My face was darkened.
“I'm telling the truth,” he cried frustratingly. “Please believe me!”
I turned to look at Nathaniel and our eyes locked. My jaws clenched and once again, I was out of the room, heading back to the car.
The drive to Cassandra's apartment took only a few minutes with the highest acceleration of the car.
When I got to her apartment, I rang the doorbell. She opened the door, looking at me, surprised.
I shoved her aside and walked in. Cassandra didn't run after me or try to chase me away.
She crossed her arms, looking at me amusingly.
“Is breaking into people's homes now your hobby?” She asked. “I heard you went into Cecelia's home too”
“That went viral already?” I asked, my face expressionless.
“No, she only told the elite members,” Cassandra replied. “You are here to accuse me of kidnapping your wife?”
“Where did you take her? What did you do with her?” I moved closer to her and she kept stepping backwards until her back hit the door.
“I did nothing with your wife, Adrian.” She chuckled. “I already told you yesterday I won't be causing trouble”
I didn't believe her. Cassandra was capable of doing that.
She had done a lot of shits to take me down but none had ever ended in her favour. She's the only person who could have pulled this off.
I stormed to her side, choking her tightly, my hands pressing into her lungs.
Cassandra blinked, trying to cough but she couldn't. She choked out. “Let go”
Tears clouded her eyes in no second, a tear sliding down her face.
“I won't be letting go,” I said. “Until you tell me where you took her”
“I really ... .don't know anything about it” she croaked. “I swear on my life, Adrian”
Her voice was barely audible but those words made my jaws drop. Cassandra may be cunning but I knew the lengths she could go to.
She wouldn't swear on her life over a lie. She wouldn't lie while getting choked when she knew I could kill her without a single care in the world.
Once again, that guy had played me.
I let go of Cassandra. She fell to the floor, trying to regain her breath.
I stood still, head in a frenzy. Cassandra's voice made me lift my head.
“I hate you!” She spat, the words said with so much venom.
I didn't care. I didn't get what I wanted but I found out she didn't do it.
Just then, my phone rang. It was a phone call from an unknown number but the number looked familiar.
I recalled where I had seen the number. Cassandra's phone.
“Hand me your phone” I ordered.
She stared, her eyes filled with hatred before she pointed towards the table. I went over, grabbing the phone without delay.
After checking the number on Cassandra's phone, I realized it's the guy she's working with.
“When was the last time the guy with the burner phone contacted you?” I asked Cassandra.
She wasn't going to respond but with a glare from me, she answered.
“That was the time you were here,” she said. “We've had nothing to do together since then”
Silence filled the room after her words until the ringing sound of my phone was heard again.
It was the same guy. I picked the phone up, waiting for his voice to rise first.
“Been a long time, Adrian” he said.
The voice was hoarse, dark and strangely familiar. I couldn't place where I had heard the voice before but it felt like the voice of someone I've known for so long.
“Who are you?” I asked.
“Is that what's important?” He laughed. “Or where I had taken your wife?”
He did it. That asshole took her. My jaws clenched, anger boiling inside of me.
“Where is she?” My voice was getting darker and I could ruin every damn thing I could lay my hands on at this point.
“Crown store house” That was one of the hospital's subsidiaries, very close to the hospital.
“An explosive will be going off in fifteen minutes.” He said, getting my eyes widened. “If you can make it there before then, you have a chance of saving her but if you can't, she
dies”
My heart clenched. From my mansion to the store house was far and from Cassandra's apartment here, it's farther.
