Chapter 73 Dead End
Adrian's POV.
I walked into the mansion, my shoe making loud sound against the marble floor.
My face was darkened, eyes fixed only on the path I was heading.
I had told them to bring him to the house and they had done so.
The guy's name was Harley. I opened the door to an abandoned office library at the back of the house.
He was tied up on the floor, his face downcast. Nathaniel followed behind me, also staring keenly at the guy.
Nathaniel's face darted around the room in awe. Metals hung on shelves, everything tools used in torturing people like the asshole on the ground.
I didn't have time to waste. I crouched down, lifting Hartley's face up.
It's him. I can confirm it now, he bumped into me and he stabbed Evelyn.
“I don't have all day, youngman” I told him. “Let's make this quick”
“You stabbed my wife, didn't you?” I asked.
He looked around like a fool, his eyes roaming mine for a moment. He acted like he didn't understand me but suddenly, he laughed.
“I regret not seeing the look on her face when the knife got stuck into her,” he said.
My jaws clenched, my fists curling immediately. Without thinking twice, I landed a punch on his face, blood spilling from his mouth to the floor in an instant.
That answered the question. He stabbed her.
“Who is the one behind you?” I asked.
He looked at me and didn't say a word, I punched his face again, his cheeks turning red from the sting.
“I can't go through pain for someone else's crime,” he said. “I'll tell you”
I waited impatiently. The guy took a deep breath before mentioning the name.
“Cecelia,” he said.
My head turned, different thoughts clouding my head. I flashed back to the party, recalling that Evelyn had told me Cecelia threatened her.
“Letting her out of the prison was my mistake” I gritted.
I walked towards the entrance then snapped my face back, eyes landing on David. “Keep an eye on him till I'm back”
From David, my eyes darted to Nathaniel. “Don't come with me” I said, voice laced with emphasis.
I got into my car, driving out in a hurry. I headed to Cecelia's home. When I got to the entrance of the estate, the guards stopped me, trying to inform the people inside of my arrival.
“Fuck the awareness” I muttered.
I ignited my car again, breaking the gates down without delay. In front of Cecelia's mansion, I didn't ring the doorbell, I opened the door immediately.
Both couples were seated around the dining table, Cecelia's fork in the air as she looked at me.
She had been informed and she looked like she had been expecting me to come create a nuisance.
She dropped the fork, stood up and walked to me with her arms crossed.
“What is the issue now, Mr. Kane?” She asked. “I already apologized to your wife like you told me to”
I rushed to her, slamming her into the wall. She groaned when her back hit the wall, her eyes widening in pure shock.
“And that single apology hurt your ego so much?” I asked. “That's why you had to abduct her?”
Before she could respond, her husband came to me, turning me around. His hand connected with my jaws, a punch landed on my face, making my head twist to the side.
“You don't get to touch my wife like that” he growled.
I didn't wait for a second, I returned the punch, the corner of his lips getting stained with blood.
“You don't get to intervene when I'm handling a business” I growled back. “Stay out of this!”
I turned to the wife who was now slightly shivering. “I didn't do anything to her. I don't know about what happened to her at the party”
“How am I supposed to believe that?” I asked, a disgusted look on my face. “The hitman you hired mentioned your name”
Cecelia's face creased. “What hitman?”
“I hired no one!” She snapped. “Get it together, Adrian Kane, I thought you were a smart person!”
I pinned her deeper into the wall, her head lifted up and intimidated.
“Don't try to fool me here” my voice was dark. “I heard from Evelyn, you threatened her”
Cecelia scoffed. “I did. But that was only to scare her”
“Let me see the hitman,” she added.
With a hand, I kept her pinned to the wall and with the other hand, I fished my phone out of my pocket.
I showed her the picture and she looked closely.
“I don't know who this is,” she said. “I had never seen him before”
For some reason, I believed her. I thought about how mischievous the guy could be.
If it really wasn't Cecelia, then he was playing me.
“I'll believe you for now,’’ I told her. “But I might be back.”
I turned around immediately, my eyes meeting with her husband's before I stormed out of the house the same way I had stormed in.
I headed back to the mansion, entering the office library at the back.
Everywhere was silent but the slamming of the door got everyone looking at me with eyes searching for answers.
The guy smirked. “Did you—” I didn't let him finish when I grabbed him by the collar, lifting him off the ground and punching him multiple times.
His whole face got battered, his lips getting stained with blood, his nose broken yet I didn't stop.
“What do you take me for? A joke?” I punched him again and he looked breathless.
I lifted my hand up in the air again to punch him but someone held me.
My face snapped, dark and dangerous. Nathaniel was holding me. “Let go,” I growled.
“If you kill him then we might never find Evelyn,” he said, bringing me back to my senses.
I punched the guy one more time before throwing him back to the floor.
I didn't know how much I've gotten used to the presence of Evelyn but not seeing her for just a few hours and not knowing whether she's safe or not troubled me more than anything ever had.
