Chapter 59 059

Chapter 59 059

Evelyn's POV.

I got to the front of the building where the concert would be getting shown. Adrian was standing outside, leaning beside his car.

He sighted me and stood upright. I walked to him and suddenly couldn't say a word.

Adrian stared at me for a while before deciding to speak.

“What happened with Cecelia?” he asked. “I knew you needed me to call because you were with her”

I forced a smile to my lips. “Nothing happened”

Adrian creased his brows, not wanting to believe that.

That made me raise my voice again. “She talked about you. She tried to kill me because she wants you”

Thinking about the moment with Cecelia again, it made me scoff.

“Looks like a lot of ladies want you,” I said. “I need to be careful so I don't get killed just because I'm your wife”

“Let's go” I said, my voice sounding in a commanding tone.

I wasn't paying attention to Adrian's reaction but as I made to take a step forward, he grabbed my waist, earning a gasp from me.

Our eyes locked. Even though I wanted to take my face away from him, I couldn't. I was pinned under his gaze.

“Nothing will happen to you” his voice was calm and low, soothing to the ears but laced with dark edges. “I'll make sure to protect you”

I blinked at his words. Was this also one of the paparazzis for the cameras?

At that moment, I looked around in search of cameras but couldn't find any. This was truly Adrian talking to me, making promises and vowing to give me protection.

I couldn't reply. I had nothing to say. Instead, Adrian talked again.

“Let's go, we don't want to miss the fun of the concert”

He held my hand into his arms and we walked inside the building. A female attendant directed us to a room while bowing respectfully.

When the door opened, revealing the faces inside, I realized the concert was based on ballerina music and dance.

People sat down round tables, their eyes on the stage where two female ballet dancers performed.

“This way to your table, Mr and Mrs Kane” Someone said, making me snap my face. He led us to the table and we took our seat. Drinks were served, food placed on the table the moment we got seated.

The melody of the music filled my ears and the steps of the dancers soothe my heart.

Adrian opened a canned drink for me, further placing my cutleries right beside my meal.

Every table consists of a man and a woman, the scene obvious that everyone was here with their dates or they were couples.

Adrian acted nice and I knew it was just for the cameras.

I watched the way the dancers turn their legs and it got me parting my lips in awe.

Adrian's voice which rose from beside me snapped me out of the reverie.

“Have you ever been to a ballet concert before?” He asked.

I looked at him surprised. Why was he curious? But I gave a reply nevertheless.

“Yes, once.” I replied. “I went with my sister”

Eva liked ballet. She once did ballet lessons back in high school but Dad was against it. He plainly didn't like ballet.

“It is a waste of time! It's not a good profession!” I remember him telling Eva.

Eva begged, crying to be allowed to do what she wants but our father was strongly against it.

“The only thing you can gain from that thing is hurting yourself!” He added that day.

Adrian's voice brought me back to the present. “Enjoy the concert then. They are top ballet dancers who perform only in the states”

I know the leader. She used to be Eva's role model and I know Eva hasn't given up on the dream of being a ballet dancer.

Not long after, my eyes shifted because of the presence of someone entering the room alone.

It was Nathaniel, his eyes looking around everywhere in search of something.

When our eyes met, I realized he had been searching for me all along.

Adrian also saw him. He said nothing and only leaned back into the chair.

Nathaniel walked to our table. “I've been looking all around for you, Eve,” he said.

“Hi, Nate” my voice was low, my tone showing the nervousness I didn't know I had in me at the moment.

Nate picked my hand up and pecked the back of my hands. When his cold lips met with my skin, it made me shiver, my breath hitching for a second.

Gawd! I had thought about this for a hundred times since the first time I saw him again, but I couldn't come to a conclusion. But now, I can't deny it anymore.

I missed Nathaniel. I missed him so fucking much.

Nathaniel turned to Adrian and I expected Adrian's face to be laced with a frown.

I expected him to be angry at what Nathaniel did but his face was that of the same calm and composed man sitting here before Nathaniel came in.

“I don't have a date, Mr. Kane” Nathaniel said, drawing a chair out. “You won't mind me sitting with you, will you?”

Adrian wouldn't want that. Or maybe that was just in my head.

“Sure, you can,” he laughed. “I was going to call you over seeing you were alone”

I blinked, thinking. “What the hell had gotten into him?”

Nathaniel's drink and meal were brought over and in silence, we paid attention to the show, not until phones started beeping and faces started to turn to their phones.

The ballet dancers had to stop. Suddenly, faces started turning towards our table, their eyes solely fixed on Adrian.

Whispers began to go round among the people seated around the tables, their hands getting pointed at Adrian and I.

I picked my phone up from the table, wanting to check what it was but before I could completely withdraw my hand, Adrian's hand caught mine, making me freeze.

“Don't check” he said and I blinked.

My eyes darted between the people and him. Whatever they were talking about was surely something huge but he…. He doesn't want me to check.
