Chapter 41 Don't. Say. A. Word.

Chapter 41 Don't. Say. A. Word.
Evelyn's POV.

Shit!

She had gotten caught digging through his things and that's because I asked her.

The girl shivered as she knelt down and I felt uneasy. Adrian didn't acknowledge my presence and that made the situation more unsettling.

I didn't need to be told that Dera was in trouble and so was I.

“You've been feeding her information about me,” Adrian said calmly.

I wanted to tell him it was the first time I'd be asking her to do this but I couldn't make my feet move, nor could my parted lips produce words.

“Please forgive me just this once sir,” Dera begged, as she rubbed her hands together.

Hot tears rolled down her cheek to the floor as she pleaded.

I swallowed hard and darkened my gaze. This was happening because of me so I should be the one to bear the consequences.

I stepped forward, placing a hand on Dera's shoulder.

“That's enough, take—” I wasn't allowed to talk as Adrian turned his face to me and without a word, that alone shut my lips.

“Don't. Say. A. Word,” he said and I was forced to obey even though I didn't want to.

Again, Adrian turned to Dera. “You think anything can go on in my house without my knowledge?” He asked.

“I saw everything. I decided to ignore it because I was waiting for you to stop,” Adrian continued. “But you didn't.”

I was getting confused. It was the first fucking time I had asked her to do this so what was he talking about?

“I let you clean the rooms even though I know you are a fucking snitch planted in my house.”

I blinked in confusion. A snitch? What the hell does he mean?

“Do you know why I let you stay?” He smirked.

My eyes darted between him and the girl who was on the ground, crying and breathing heavily.

“Because of your wretched family,” Adrian spat, the look in his darkened eyes frightening me.

“You have nothing. They need this pay from you and that’s all. Not your fucking skill.”

“And now?” His voice was getting calmer. “You start to dig into me for my wife?”

I knew it, he knows! He found out and that's the reason why Dera was kneeling here.

Adrian straightened his back when Dera's tears intensified. “Get your things and leave,” his voice was cold and commanding.

“Tell Cassandra,” he paused. “I want to see her try to bring me down with those things you took to her.”

I processed his words and my eyes widened. If I was understanding Adrian, Dera was feeding Cassandra information about him.

She was snitching on him for Cassandra? I shook my head and tried to make it make sense.

So, that night I found her in Adrian's study, my suspicions were right. She wasn't trying to clean the study, she was searching for things to take to Cassandra.

Dera's voice rose violently, snapping me out of my thoughts.

“Please….” She croaked and swallowed. “Forgive me just this once.”

She lifted her index finger, holding it to Adrian's face for him to see. Just another chance. But I doubt Adrian was a man who listens to pleas even when people cry a river.

“You had your chance when Cassandra asked you to do this, you blew it off by accepting,” he said, his voice dark and cold.

“You also had another chance when you entered the mansion and was earning more than she had offered, but you chose to blow it off again,” he continued.

“Once again, you had yet another chance when my wife told you to look into me,” his eyes turned to me and my hands trembled for a brief moment. “You chose to blow it off then too.”

“Now, your little game is over,” his face returned to Dera.

“You have five minutes to leave,” Adrian added. He walked past me, the scent of his cologne filling my nose.

I watched as Dera facepalmed herself and cried. She was fired and I couldn't do anything, like a coward.

Adrian didn't call anyone, but David walked in, standing in front of Dera.

“Please stand up and get your things ready,” he said.

My teeth gritted behind my closed lips. I knew she was wrong for taking information about him to Cassandra and I.

It wasn't her fault, she was only trying to survive.

I forced my eyes away from Dera and stormed after Adrian who had left for the hallway leading to his study.

He was in his study, standing in front of his desk, holding some files in his hands.

I went straight to where the documents she had shown me were placed. I picked them up and slammed them on Adrian's table.

My insides burned with anger, my whole body trembling with the urge to defend the poor girl.

The way I slammed the papers on Adrian's table made him glare at me. Calm and composed, like he was the sweetest man on earth.

The thought itself made me scoff but I pushed that to the back of my mind.

“Don’t act like you don't know what this is.” I said, voice raised and burning with fury. “You know I asked her to look into you! She's getting fired because of that but when you look at me, you act like nothing happened?”

Adrian placed the files in his hands on the table and tucked his hand into his pocket, a very calm act of his that was beginning to irritate me.

“She's getting fired because she snitched on me to Cassandra, don't get this wrong” he said.

I scoffed because there was nothing I was getting wrong here. Cassandra asked her to snitch on him and so did I.

“I also asked her to do that,” I said breathlessly. “Why not take it out on me too?”

“Exactly!” His face suddenly darkened and he held my hand, slamming me into the wall.

The sudden action of his contrasted to the calm look on his face a second earlier, scaring the hell out of me.

“What do you want to know, huh?” He leaned in closer, his face turning in anger.

I matched his energy, staring back at him with venom in my eyes.

I pushed him off me, walking to the table and grabbing the documents I had placed there just now.

“Explain these! How the fuck did this photo get here? And how the hell are you related to Nicolas Reid?”
