Chapter 11 The Denkling's Show
Evelyn's POV.
I forced myself to smile and walked towards him, stopping right in front of him.
“No,” I answered, my voice steady. “I realized that even if I bought the entire store, I might not reach the card limit.”
He chuckled and stood up, his hands in his pockets as he walked towards me.
His hands were always in his pockets. Like confidence was something he carried around in there, and he didn’t want it to slip away.
I didn't move an inch because I was trying not to feel intimidated.
He stopped in front of me, his tall frame towering over mine.
“Give up already,” he said casually.
“After spending all my money on dresses, then what?” He asked. “You think that would ruin me?”
“Or do you think your family will be safe after that?” He continued. “And you too?”
Asshole! My family? He wouldn't stop threatening me with my family!
“I gave up already. There's no use fighting you,” I spat with venom, my eyes staring at him with hatred.
He leaned back, and his gaze darkened, turning serious.
“Prepare. We have an interview tomorrow.”
“I'll be at work,” he continued. “David will pick you up.”
“I'm sure you met him already. He will be your personal driver,” he added.
“I did. And I'll be prepared,” I said and walked upstairs before he would decide to further the conversation.
I headed to my room, and a few minutes later, David brought the shopping bags upstairs.
When I unpacked them, I could only stare at them like they were the doom that had been sent to destroy me.
How was I going to arrange them? Maybe Mira and Dera would help. But how was I going to wear them? That I didn't know.
The next day came faster than lightning. Adrian had left for work early in the morning, Mira said when I asked her.
By 11 am, my phone started beeping with a call. I picked it up and realized it was Adrian.
We hadn't exchanged contacts, but I was sure he could find his way around it. Getting my contact would not have been an issue for him.
“Hello?” My voice was inaudible.
“I informed David. He will be driving you to the Denklings show. Be here in thirty minutes and dress properly,” he said.
“I'll be going in first,” he added.
He ended the call before I could even mutter an okay.
He is not only an asshole, but he's rude and arrogant.
I stood up from the bed where I had been sitting all day.
The dresses from the previous day had been neatly arranged into the closet, and of course, with the help of Mira and the maid.
I searched through them, looking for what to wear. There were a lot of dresses suitable for the show, but once again, a thought came to mind.
I thought I had truly given up, like I had told Adrian, but it turned out I hadn't.
Adrian Kane cares about the public and their opinion of him. So why not give him the attention he deserves?
A smirk curled up my lips. I searched through the closet and took out a dress, putting it on without delay.
When I checked myself in the mirror, I smiled. Let the drama begin.
A knock came on the door, and I let the person in, as I already knew it was Mira.
“It's time to get you ready for…” she trailed off, scanning my outfit from head to toe.
I turned to her with a smile. “How does this look?”
She lifted her widened eyes.
“This is too……..” she trailed off again. “I'm sure the boss would not support you wearing this. Kindly take it off!”
My smile widened. The exact review I needed.
“Thanks, Mira. You can leave,” I sat in front of the mirror again to do my makeup.
When I was done, I picked a pair of heels from the shoe rack and slipped my feet into them. I grabbed a black handbag to match the black-blue dress I had on, then headed outside.
David had the car ready, but also looked stunned when he saw me walk out.
“Let's go,” I said with a wide smile.
“Ma'am, your—” I cut him off and didn't let him finish because I knew what was coming.
“Let's just go, David,” I said, emphasizing the words.
He blinked, taking his eyes off me, and only nodded his head.
He opened the car door for me, and I got in, sitting comfortably in the back seat. He also got into the car and drove the car off, heading to the Denklings show where Adrian wanted us to meet.
My eyes were fixed on my phone as I checked the messages I had while waiting for the car to arrive at our destination.
“The show has started, ma'am,” David informed me after he checked his phone while driving.
I decided to check and search for the Denklings show. Under their page, I could see Adrian, sitting on a sofa with his legs crossed, a smile on his face, and an interviewer in front of him.
The comments under the live video were not much, as they were all just admiring his good looks.
But in a few minutes, the attention will change to me. I'll give them something to talk about and go crazy about because I had dressed like every headline Adrian Kane would hate.
