Chapter 8 - Crave
I crave you as the desert craves rain and the flower craves sun. - Wyatt
Greyson’s POV
I stared at her, mesmerized by her doe eyes. She was even more beautiful than I remember. Her mouth was wide open as she stared at me in shock. I inhaled deeply as I felt my body shudder and took in her sweet scent.
But then I notice the tears that stain her cheeks. "What is wrong, Blue?" I ask her without thinking.
I hadn't realized I was still holding her in my arms until I felt her struggle against me to get out of them.
Reluctantly I let her go with a sigh. It is not the time to get territorial. I will make her mine eventually, but for now, I will let her go. I watch as she runs away from me once again, without another word, disappearing down the streets.
I can't help but hope that she is okay. I sniff the air around where she had stood and realize that my original suspicions have been confirmed. She is a human.
That was dangerous. Not for me but for her.
I had a lot of enemies, and the Alpha people will try to get her to get to me. I had to maintain my distance from her at all costs.
I walked through the doors and took in the sight of the large building. I nodded my head at the decor, realizing that it was actually better than I had expected it to look.
A woman at the front desk smiled at me as I approached her. I initially found it weird, but I didn't say anything about it.
"Good afternoon. How may I help you?" She asked the question.
"Hello. My name is Greyson Sterling." I began and watched as her mouth opened wide into an 'o'.
"Good afternoon Mr. Sterling. We were expecting you in the morning." She said with a stutter.
I nodded my head at her admitting, "Yes, I know. I apologize for that. I had a prior arrangement."
I hated to admit it, but Sam was right. I knew nothing about running an organization, and this was likely not going to end well. She stared at me in confusion, and I gave her a smile in return.
"That's okay, I guess. Everyone is still trying to finish their last few jobs before you come in. In case there are a few things you wish to change in the office." I nodded my head at her and watched as she stepped out from behind the desk.
"I will show you to your office now." She said, gesturing forward with her hands. I nodded as I followed behind her, letting her lead us toward the elevators.
She pressed the button for the 20th floor, and we waited as it began to move. Soon enough, the doors slid open, and we stepped out. We came to a stop in front of a set of double doors. They had a plank with the word "Mr. Hargrove CEO" written.
The lady saw that and panicked as she reached out to take it off, but I raised my hand to stop her.
She opened the doors, and When I stepped inside, I was met with an open office plan with a glass window wall at the back and leather couches.
A large black glass desk with leather chairs was at the back of the room. I stepped inside the room, and she quickly followed behind me. I sat down on the chair, and my eyes trained on the pile of paperwork on the table.
"Those are some of Mr. Hargrove’s unfinished documents." She explained.
I nodded my head at her in understanding as I took a look at the papers. "You can always start tomorrow. Is there anything I can do for you?" She asked with her hands clasped in front of her.
I smiled bashfully as I said, "I am going to need an assistant." She took out a notepad and jotted it down.
"Someone with an architectural background. Send me a list of employees like that." I said to her as she nodded her head.
"Will that be all?" I nodded my head at her. "Everyone can go home when they are done. I am just looking at everyone today. The real work starts tomorrow. Oh, and thank you."
She blushed lightly, nodding her head and doing a little curtsy which made me smile before she made her way out of the door. I couldn’t help but wonder what exactly I had gotten myself into.
For the following week, I observed the workers at a distance. They were efficient, explaining why the company was doing so well. The employees were thorough in their work, and their jobs were precise and clean-cut. On the other hand, I struggled to get the hang of everything. Suzzy had become a good friend and was helping me with most of the work, but there was only so much she could do for me. She also had her own job to do.
I had interviewed a few candidates for the assistant position, but none of them seemed right. They either had little experience or were too qualified for the position; a few tried to be a little too friendly.
I hadn’t seen Blue since that day, and I couldn't help but wonder if it had something to do with me. I assumed that she had a good reason for her disappearance; otherwise, it would be considered unprofessional.
I had said I was taking it slow initially, but it was hard for me to not think about her. There was also the fact that my wolf and I wanted to be sure that she was safe and that there was nothing wrong with her.
It was Wednesday again, nearly ten days since I started working at the company. I had to admit that I was slowly getting the hang of everything. When the doors opened, I talked to Suzzy at the reception desk about a new shipment of steel pipes, and Blue walked in.
My breath hitched at the sight of her, and my heartbeat sped up. "Grey, are you listening?" Suzzy asked in irritation.
I nodded my head at her absentmindedly. "Who is she?" I asked, faking naivety, and she smirked.
"Sapphire Trainer. Started working here a few months ago. She is an architect and graduated top of her class." She explains. Her name suited her well, and I smirked as I tried to test it out on my tongue.
"I want her as my assistant," I said simply.
Suzzy stared at me with wide eyes. "Why?" I shrugged my shoulders at her.
"She seems like a good addition to the team, and as we established, I don’t know what I am doing." I rushed the words out, trying to remain impassive.
"Fine, I will let her boss know." She muttered. I smiled brightly as I tapped on her desk. "Great. Send her to my office when everything is cleared."
She stared at me suspiciously. "Be warned. She isn’t a fan of men." Suzzy mumbled.
"That isn’t important," I called out as I made my way towards the elevators towards my office.
As I made the way up, I couldn't help but think over Suzzy’s words. I was thrilled that Sapphire stayed away from other men, but there had to be a reason. Maybe someone from her past. I clenched my jaw at the thought of someone hurting her as I walked into my office.
I sat at the edge of my seat, filled with anticipation. My body tensed up at the thought of her walking in. I hadn't seen or smelt her sweet scent in a week, and it drove my wolf and me insane.
There was a knock on her door, and I cleared my throat before calling out for her. "Come in." I watched as the beauty slowly walked in. I cleared my throat, trying to keep my cool.
"Take a seat, Miss Trainer," I said, trying to keep my voice as level as possible. She nodded her head towards me before making her way over.
"You asked to see me, sir." She said in her melodic voice.
"Yes, I need an assistant. Someone who knows the architectural aspects of everything to get the ropes. I am not very good at all this."
"Why me? I am still new here." She said, looking flustered.
"Why not you? You graduated top of your class and have displayed an amazing work ethic." I said, and I watched her blush at the praise.
"Well, thank you, Sir. It will be a pleasure." She said, "You start on Monday. So, finish up your work." I called out to her as she left.
Oh, little lamb. You have no idea what you just got yourself into.
