Chapter 7 - Attraction
Attraction is only intense when mystery is involved. - Inder
Greyson's POV
I couldn’t stop thinking about her. Images of her bombarded my head and the entirety of my thoughts. She was like a beacon to which my all actions were tethered.
I was barely getting any work done because of that fact. Every time I sat in my office, my eyes would drift to the necklace, and I would think of her again. I didn’t know where she was or how I would do it, but I had to find her.
She had been on my mind for the last few weeks, but I had been occupied with work and other things for so long that I didn’t have the time to do it.
There was a sharp knock on my door, and I cleared my throat, signaling for him to come in. I smiled brightly when Sam walked into the office.
"Hey, Grey," Sam said cheerfully.
"Sam, good to see you again," I said to him with a grin.
He sat in front of my desk and wiggled his butt in the chair to make himself comfortable. "So, who do you need me to hunt down or find for you this time?" Sam asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Who says I need you to find anyone? Maybe I just called you over so we can chat." I said to him with a shrug causing Sam to look at me pointedly.
"Okay fine. There is a girl..." I began, and he sat up straight.
Sam stared at me for an extended beat before asking, “What about Scarlett?”
I looked at him in confusion before asking, “What about her?”
He rolled his eyes at me before crossing his feet on my desk as he said, “Sometimes you are so clueless. I wish I had that privilege.”
I still didn’t understand what he meant, and he sighed as he continued. “The woman has been in love with you for the past fifteen years.”
I shook my head at him before saying, “No, that’s not possible. We are just friends. She knows I am not interested.”
He let out a hearty laugh as he said, “Well, tell that to the girl going around telling everyone she is going to be your Luna soon.”
I shook my head at his words. I knew Scarlett had a crush on me, but I had never taken it seriously. I would have to tell her gently that I wasn’t interested.
I looked at him as I said, “I don’t have time for that. I need you to find this girl.”
"Now, this is interesting. This is the first time you are talking about a woman. Who is she?" Sam asked.
"She’s, my mate. At least, I think so." I said to him. The truth was that I was not so sure of myself sure myself.
"What do you mean you think? She either is or isn't. There is no in-between." He said firmly, causing me to roll my eyes at him.
I huffed, saying, "I know that. But I have never actually met her. So, I can't be sure."
"Okay, now you sound crazy. How do you know about her then?" Sam asked with a raised eyebrow.
I grimaced, preparing myself for his reaction when I told him. "I saw her in a dream," I muttered.
"You what?" He asked as he tried to hold back his laughter. I stared at him blankly.
"So, you're telling me you saw someone in a dream, and now you are convinced that she is the one," Sam said as he boomed with laughter.
I rolled my eyes at him. "Just find her, please. You can tease me later." I said with an eye roll. "Fine. What is her name?" He asked.
I bit my lip as I turned away from him. "I don’t know."
Sam sighed as he glared at me intensely, saying, "You don’t have a name. Well, at least tell me what she looks like."
"She has brownish-black hair and blue or green eyes," I said, blushing lightly as I scratched my head. He glared at me profoundly, and I turned away from him to avoid eye contact.
"It was dark, so it was hard to see," I said defensively.
"So let me get this straight. You want me to find a girl. You don’t know who she is or what she looks like?" Sam said through gritted teeth.
"Well, I do have something that can help," I said as I remembered something.
"Finally. Something useful. I don’t know how this place hasn’t caught fire with you in charge."
I rolled my eyes, ignoring his comment, as I reached the bottom drawer of my desk.
I opened it and pulled out the amber necklace. I smiled at the sight of it before placing it down at the table. Sam stared at it pointedly, then looked at me before he stared back at the necklace.
"I don’t get it," Sam said flatly.
"This belongs to her," I said to him.
"And how did you get it?" He asked in wonder.
"In the dream, I was trying to grab her and pull it off her neck. When I woke up, it was in my hand." I said to him, and his mouth fell agape at what I said.
"This is some crazy-level stuff. But how am I supposed to use some necklace to find your girl?" Sam asked in confusion.
"I know you have ties to the witches. Get one of them to cast a locator spell." I said simply.
"You know they haven’t allowed me there since the misunderstanding." He said with a scowl causing me to smirk.
"By a misunderstanding, you mean you slept with half of them, promising to marry them." I scoffed.
I looked at him pleadingly before he sighed and reluctantly gave in. "Fine, but you owe me for this." He said warningly.
"Yeah! Find her, and I will give you whatever you want." I said to him in promise.
I watched as Sam took hold of the necklace before standing up and leaving the room.
I was close. I could just feel it.
For the next few days, I tried to distract myself with work to put my mind off her. I did not want to get my hopes up if the spell wouldn’t work.
Our pack had been experiencing quite a few rogue attacks, and I was working on changing our guard shifts. The rogues were usually a problem that we could manage. But recently, they were being spotted in large numbers, they did not usually cause much trouble, but it was better to be safe.
It was the fifth day when Sam waltzed back into my office. He had a giant grin on his face. "You owe me big time." He said as he threw the necklace at me. My heart sank as I rushed over to grab it before it fell.
"Did you get it?" I asked hesitantly.
"Oh, I found everything about her." Sam grinned as he slid a file towards me. I opened it up and saw a gorgeous brunette with the most enchanting blue eyes I had ever seen.
My heart fluttered in my chest at the sight of her. "I am guessing she is the one." He said, and I quickly closed the file. I just wanted to confirm it was her. I didn’t want to look through her past. It felt like an invasion of privacy, and I wanted her to tell me all those things on her own terms.
"Her name is Sapphire Trainer. She lives in Brooklyn with her Mum, Emily. She is 23 years old. A bit young for you. But I won’t judge. She loves reading and drawing. Has never had a boyfriend." Sam began, and I listened to him intently, soaking up every word.
"She works at Hargrove Inc. construction company and spends most of her time with her mum. You are welcome." He said in triumph.
I smirked at his words, “How convenient that she ends up working for dad’s friend.”
"So, what are you going to do now?" He asked.
"I have to get to know her," I confessed.
"What are you going to do to get a job there?" Sam wondered.
"No, but I will buy the company," I said with a grin.
"That's a bit crazy, isn’t it? You know nothing about business, and he won't agree to sell." Sam tried to reason.
"I don’t care. I went to college for a little while. I will get the hang of it. And pay him as much money as it takes till he agrees." I spoke.
"I don’t think this is a good idea," he said grimly.
"I don’t care. I have spent enough time away from her." I said firmly.
"Fine. But you can't juggle being Alpha and CEO. It will come back to bite you." He said in warning.
But I wasn't listening. I had a plan and was ready to set it in motion. It didn’t matter how I got there.
Leo Hargrove was a hard man to convince. It was his life’s work, and he wasn’t willing to let it go. I had to remind him about who my father was. They had been close friends once, and Leo owed him a favor after my father saved him from a car crash. My father never revealed his identity to him, but they had stayed in touch since then. He was willing to do anything for my father and had been there for him after Mum was killed. He was one of the few people dad could trust, and he wouldn’t have agreed to sell to me if it wasn’t for Dad.
*********
It was early Monday morning, and it was my first day at the office. I was giddy with anticipation of seeing her.
I was ready to head out when I stopped by Adam, who said there were a few pack issues I had to handle. By the time I was done, it was nearly afternoon, but I decided to head to work anyway.
I pulled up to the large building and had to admit I was pretty impressed by its size. I made my way towards the door and was about to slide in when a figure came out and bumped into me.
I was about to lash out at her when she lifted her head to look at me, and our eyes met.
My breath hitched in my throat.
It was her.
