Chapter 54 Strange Illness

Maybe there was some argument, but I didn't really catch it. After paying the bill, I left with Lorenzo and Anthony.

Suddenly, Anthony stopped, frowned, and looked at these two kids wearing black straw cloaks.

"Hold up! Those kids are from the Netherworld Mountain cave!"

We all stopped and watched to see what was going on.

One of the girls, probably around eleven or twelve, yelled into the clinic, "Please save my brother, he's only eight..."

Seeing us watching, someone from the clinic rushed out, supporting the girl, and tried to calm her down, "Sweetheart, it's not that we ain't willing to lend a hand. Even hospitals can't admit your brother. If they can't fix him up, we're out of options too!"

It was already dark, so I hadn't gotten a good look at the kids earlier. Upon hearing the doctor's words, I moved closer under the clinic's light. The boy the girl held had a face that was entirely purple-black, eyes shut, and unresponsive.

"Isn't he already dead?" Alicia followed me, took a look, and immediately covered her mouth.

"My brother isn't dead... please save him!" The girl couldn't hold back her tears anymore, seeing we were paying attention, "Not just my brother, several people in my family are like this, please save us..."

Several people were like this?

I turned to look at Anthony, and seeing him nod at me, I confirmed these kids were indeed from the cave on Netherworld Mountain. But why had they suddenly become like this?

"Little girl, what do you want me to do? You just went to the hospital, and they didn't take him. To be blunt, your brother is already dead!"

"No, my brother isn't dead..."

Upon a suggestion to involve the police due to the dire situation, Anthony, concerned about potential disruptions to our upcoming plans, approached and gently placed his arm around the girl's shoulders. "Isidora? Is that you?"

The girl, Isidora Roach, turned her tearful eyes to Anthony, stunned for a couple of seconds, then threw herself into his arms, "Anthony, please save us..."

Anthony quickly waved to the surrounding people, "It's okay, these are my relatives. The boy isn't dead; it's a strange illness. He'll be fine soon!"

Lorenzo also helped to explain, and Alicia and I quickly found a car and took the two kids away.

Ten minutes later, after driving around the city, we got back to the hotel room and looked at the boy lying on the bed.

"Isidora, what's wrong with Zack?" Anthony, who had lived in the cave for twelve years, had grown attached to these people, even though he hadn't talked much to them. Seeing Zack Roach's condition, his eyes welled up.

"Anthony, after you left a few days ago, people at home started getting this weird illness," Isidora said tearfully. "It starts with a fever and headache, and after half a day, they start struggling to breathe, and then they slowly die. My aunt passed away this morning, and Zack started showing symptoms when he woke up. By the time we got him to the hospital, he was already like this."

Having learned some basics with Fiona, I quickly placed my hand on Zack's heart. "It's okay, his heartbeat is steady."

Anthony asked me anxiously, "Can you tell what illness it is?"

I shook my head. "I'm no expert. All I can say is his heartbeat seems steady for now, so he's not in immediate danger, but..."

Before I could finish, I sensed Zack's heartbeat slowing, then moments later, it ceased altogether!

"Something's wrong! Anthony, what's happening? There's no heartbeat!" Isidora was worried.

Anthony quickly checked Zack's breath. "What's going on?"

"I'll go find a doctor!" Alicia said as she was about to leave, but Lorenzo grabbed her. "Don't go, it's too late. Anthony, this child isn't normal."

Anthony was stunned. "What do you mean?"

Lorenzo looked at me. "Dennis, what do you think?"

I nodded, reached into my pocket for the Sunstrike, and then squinted at Zack, who had no breath left.

Ridiculous!

I could see layers of faint white mist around Zack's body. This was Justbreeze!

From what Lorenzo usually talked about and the books I had read, I had never heard of anyone being killed by Justbreeze!

After all, Justbreeze was supposed to help people rise!

I shook my head in disbelief and looked again.

It was still the same. Layers of faint white mist enveloped Zack's body, and the Justbreeze was quite heavy.

I reached out and touched Zack's body but found nothing.

This meant that this Beneware was affecting him from the place where he had lived for a long time.

But no matter how it affected him, Justbreeze shouldn't be fatal.

I looked at Lorenzo. "Lorenzo, Zack's body is very strange."

As I spoke, I looked at Zack again and saw that the Justbreeze around him was rapidly disappearing.
